We've been fans of Shoops for close to 15 years and have breakfast here every weekend. I'm currently 5 months pregnant and it was a challenging 1st trimester. I can't count the number of times that Tom and the Shoops team treated me like family during that time. Was I ordering the frankfurter at 7am with orange juice? Yes. Was it weird? Oh yea but no one batted an eye! But what stands out the most is the few lunches I had there where I crawled my way over after a rough rough morning and they just instantly took care of me - getting me water, juice, fruit, and food right away. It really brings me tears of joy from how they treated us like family. But it's not just me - they treated everyone sitting down for a meal as if they're apart of the Shoops family. Great food. One of the most consistently good breakfast spots in Santa Monica. Don't think of it as a traditional deli, it is more so a breakfast and lunch spot that has a very large and diverse menu. One thing I love about this place is they have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating so whatever you're in the mood for you'll be able to get. Parking is also extremely easy, there is a giant pay lot directly behind the restaurant or you can look for metered street parking. Our waiter was extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out shortly after ordering it. Inside is pretty large, larger than it looks from the street, so they can host many different sized groups. For this visit, I ordered one of their most famous dishes, which is the Pancakes with Bacon inside it. As you would guess they were very good and filling, and I would order them again. Came here on a Sunday and there wasn't direction on where to sit or meet host. We were seated after being asked if we would like to order. The roast beef sandwich was really tasty, coleslaw was delicious and Russian dressing complimented the sand which well. Potato salad was delicious, it had bacon and you really tasted the vinegar but overall it was a nice balance. How have we not seen this deli yet. It's been on Main Street for years. Our friend told us about Shoop's and had breakfast with us. It's a European style deli which specialized in pancakes. I had a scramble special and the others had pancake specials. Everything was delicious. Service was great. The restaurant had a nice cozy feel with great service. There are a few tables inside and a large seating area outside. They also have a cool little market with fun European goodies. Shoop's New Owners: PLEASE CHANGE the bread you use for the "baguette" for your Salmon Baguette. It is so bad. It is just so dry. The whole sandwich is dry. I had to ask for a side of the mustard-dill sauce because it was like sandpaper in my mouth. The flavor of the salmon was great as always. But the bread completely ruined it. I wish I had ordered the salmon scramble instead. At least I would've gotten more protein instead of empty carbs that ruined the purpose of a sandwich. Also the pancakes aren't as good as when I used to live in the area 5 years ago. If you see pictures from 5-7 years ago, the pancakes were super crispy on the edges (means they use a lot of oil, but that's the style I like which is why I order pancakes here) but now they are like the normal kind with no crispy edges.
