Next, we ordered the MILO CHOPPED salad $25 to share among the five of us. Here, the vibes are decidedly casual, and the carb-forward menu is intentionally approachable. But the bakery is serious business; breads and treats are prepared daily, and Milo and Olive supplies baked goods to its fellow Rustic Canyon Family restaurants. Not only is Milo and Olive a neighborhood favorite; it has also been recognized by the Michelin Guide for years. The duplex unit features a trim bakery-coffee bar and expansive open kitchen in the entry room, while a dedicated dining room is tucked around the corner. The whitewashed walls, exposed wooden rafters, and polished concrete floors lean toward modern-rustic. Shelves are stacked with wine bottles, and the walls are decorated with countless vibrant watercolors. The morning sunlight heats the space, and the din of chatter overpowers the softly playing instrumental. My partner and I shared brunch with another couple, and the restaurant was buzzing in the late morning. Of our shared dishes, the highlight was the Creamy Kenton Canyon Farms Polenta. Each uber-rich bite felt like a warm embrace to the palate, accentuated by the poached eggs and pork belly-esque bacon. The a la carte Housemade Sausage Patty was also deliciously enjoyable. Meanwhile, the Oven Baked Eggs in Peperonata Skillet felt like a standard, pepper-forward shakshuka. The portion and setup were made for easy sharing. The Cast Iron Cinnamon Roll had an appropriately sweet and cinnamon-y taste, but the texture was inconsistently flaky versus gummy, and the cream cheese was too skimpy. The Breakfast Pizza was tragically ambitious. The flavors, when all present, blended seamlessly; however, the toppings were unevenly distributed. Further, the once perfectly leopard-spotted thin crust quickly became soggy. The accompanying side of Calabrian Chili Oil was laughably small. Lastly, our iced Strawberry Matcha Latte was fresh and vibrant, featuring a fresh strawberry puree. The service was efficient without feeling pushy, and our bill totalled around $120 (after tax and tip). The sticker price was eyebrow-raising, but our meal was reasonably filling across 4 hungry appetites.
