Overall, it was a very good experience. I had to wait a long time to order relative to how busy the restaurant was, they were only two other tables that already had their food. I thought she acknowledge me, which I appreciated, but did not bring a menu. I eventually had to ask for one. Although several staff saw me sit and walked by. After ordering my meal, also took quite a while to arrive. In total, I waited over a half an hour for all of those things to occur. The staff was very pleasant and helpful once I ordered. The food had a very lovely flavor, although the pancake was not that fluffy and my eggs requested over medium were over hard. I still enjoyed my meal and the interior is very comfortable. First time there and was pleasantly surprised at all the menu choices! I ordered a hamburger with a fried egg, and it was delicious; the bun was slightly sweet, fresh, and soft. Flapjax? More like slap-jax, because this food absolutely slaps! It's hands-down my new favorite brunch place in town and will be my top recommendation to anyone visiting from out of town. The menu has about 100 options to choose from (pancakes, waffles, crepes, mimosas, eggs and potatoes, you name it), which is a little overwhelming, but it seems like you can't go wrong. My wife and I split the strawberry shortcake waffle and the cinnamon bun pancakes and savored every single bite. The table next to us got a breakfast burrito that also looked heavenly. Even though the restaurant was full of patrons, our server was prompt and welcoming. Flapjax is one of the few places I would bestow a bonus 6th Yelp star if I could. Fairly delicious buttermilk pancakes, with their own unique texture and flavor that was pretty subtle and not drenched with butter or too fluffy . The karage chicken was off the hook, a complete shocker, actually much better than most of what I've had at Japanese restaurants. That's about it, good decor I guess service is also good I was just saying that to tick the Yelp boxes mostly ....there we go. Actually the waitress that helped us had a pleasant old-school diner type demeanor. The pancakes I would rate at the bottom of the upper tier of LA area pancakes - maybe below Dupars and the griddle Café I don't know. I gotta go back for more accurate assessment. Their menu was a bit overwhelming with options - not a bad thing but I ordered the chx and waffles and WOW so good both the waffle and chx was delicious! We also got a the carbonara pasta with a salad - I forget the name of this but it what's goat cheese & Brussels sprouts 10/10. The carbonara pasta was bomb! I also had a green juice but it was more like a smoothie - it was very filling. Everything we ordered was great. The service is fast, staff is extremely friendly and attentive. They have indoor and outdoor dining, great for big groups, kid friendly and for pets (outside). They also have backyard patio for dining. I recommend this for lunch, breakfast and brunch! Quick update on my review since Bru's Wiffle has moved in and merged with Flapjax. We were a little nervous of how it would all end up, but we love this setup! Everything is on one menu now. Since my daughter's favorite menu item was from Flapjax (the chicken crepe) and mine was from Bru's (The Salad), now everyone can be happy! I was also nervous that the quality of the salad might suffer since the side salads at Flapjax weren't always the best (sometimes a little wilty with some of the leaves tending toward slime), but I'm happy to report that The Salad is as delightful as ever and the quality of the greens is still outstanding. Stumbled upon this place when going to Light Bulbs Unlimited (which is a great place btw). Was seated very quickly. Great service. A really large menu which can be suspicious but the food we ordered was excellent. French toast was covered in fresh fruit. I had the BBQ Smash burger which was very tasty. Not a HUGE burger but plenty for me. And tough to find a great burger for under 10 bucks these days. Looking forward to trying out their other offerings. Would be great for brunch I suspect. The chorizo was amazing! Chicken Karaage 10/10: absolutely love how they breaded the chicken! It's light & not as thick. Loved the sauces too! I ordered the patatas bravas. I failed to inform the staff that I don't eat meat. My mistake, offered to pay for the meal, and to get a new one. They were nice enough to take it in the back and bring back a new one. Or so I thought. It seems like they made a new egg and took out the pieces of bacon. I found a few smaller pieces they missed, and ruined my appetite. I was sick all night because of that. Thank you for that! Also, they only do one egg now instead of two, and the plate seems a lot smaller than before. Will not go back. I can't trust a restaurant that disregards customer food safety. read more

Finally tried this place after driving by for three years. Service is excellent. Pancakes were the best I've had in 20 years (and I love pancakes and try them everywhere I can). The texture was what set them apart. Fluffy but not too doughy. Cooked all the way through. Incredible flavor. Even though I live close by, I somehow missed this Santa Monica diner, and I'm so happy I tried it for my first time this past weekend. It's not the traditional retro diner, think more so a breakfast restaurant with a huge menu filled with all sorts of classic and new dishes. I find the most diners focus on just classic dishes so this is a bit of a hybrid. They have indoor and outdoor seating, the outdoor seating is in front and a covered patio out back. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, but parking is really easy to find in this part of town. We were able to be seated right when we arrived for a 10:30 AM Sunday brunch and our server was extremely polite. As mentioned, they have a huge menu that is filled with all sorts of options so it took all of us quite some time to decide what to get. For my first time I started off with a Cinnamon Roll and thought it was absolutely fantastic. It's large and fluffy and really hit the spot for a great starter. For my entrée, I chose the Flapjax Breakfast Plate and upgraded my pancake to the Maple Glaze. That pancake was extremely delicious with caramelized banana, maple, and bacon on top. It was truly delicious and a great treat. Overall, a fantastic breakfast place that I will certainly be back to soon. They truly have a ton of options so it's a sort of place you could go to frequently and get something new every time. read more

Wow! We have lived down the street for 2 year and have never been in here. We have so many favorites, it's hard to try somewhere new. I am so glad we came. The food was fantastic. I am going to go out on a limb and say this was the best avocado toast I have ever had. Ever! The bread was rustic and fresh. There was a tang from the sauce they put on top (which I believe had jalapeños in it) and the cilantro micro greens were perfect. My only complaint- they need to give you a steak knife. That bread is so full of goodness, a butter knife just won't do. My hubby got the overnight oats and loved them. They have a lot going on in those oats. Full of good texture. The coffee is strong. The servers are all lovely. It's nice and serene inside. Perfect for a cloudy Saturday morning. This place should have a constant line out the door. The cinnamon roll pancakes were delicious, though we had to ask for syrup (who serves pancakes without syrup?). The patatas bravas were a bit of a twist--they were basically French fries. The dish had everything, but it would've been better as a skillet to keep the fries warm. The loco huevos rancheros had a ton of flavor, but the chorizo grease/sauce turned the "crispy" tortilla into mush pretty quickly. The star of the meal was definitely the mushroom toast! We came by before leaving for the long trip ahead so we were hoping for something hearty and speedy but unfortunately were disappointed. Our group of 5 were seated relatively quickly (around 5 minutes), given waters, and orders taken down. Unfortunately, they forgot about giving us utensils for a while (around 30+ minutes). We didn't realize we didn't have utensils because we didn't need them yet as we were still waiting for our food to come out. We finally got utensils after asking one of the staff about it to which he quickly helped us. We finally received our food after 45+ minutes of waiting and were excited to finally eat but were disappointed when we realized they gave us a wrong plate. No fret though, they quickly changed it out after we asked if this was the correct order of food. The food was underwhelming. I personally had the berry pancakes which were good (7/10). My friend who had the Flapjax breakfast platter said his eggs were cold. The Potato Pancakes Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon had one fully poached through/boiled egg and one runny egg. The Pancake and Chicken Karaage was not impressive as the karaage was dry and chewy. We also had the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and a Double Smash Cheeseburger, both of which my partner enjoyed. The interior is well decorated and staff were friendly but the wait time and sub-par food left a bad impression. I love Flapjax! There's an all-but-unspoken agreement here given how big their pancakes are - there's a good chance you won't be able to eat them all on one sitting. Still, it's fun to try. I highly recommend the chocolate chip pancakes or the cinnamon bun pancakes. Both clear winners! Their other offerings are just as enduring, including all sorts of lunch options. I've recently been fond of their olive tapenade panini, it's the perfect combination of salty and savory for me. I can't believe I've never reviewed this place before. I've been coming here since they opened during Covid. I will say, the fart huffing people of Santa Monica do not deserve this restaurant. It's a cozy little diner featuring some of the best food I've ever had, From the avocado toast with Gruyere and fried egg to the chipotle chicken wrap with hand cut french fries. The burgers are amazing, the pancakes and waffles are to die for, I have never had a menu item that wasn't top-notch. Don't even get me started on the cinnamon roll pancakes. No, screw that, get me started on them. I will eat a mountain of those things, buttermilk pancakes with cinnamon swirls throughout like a Cinnabon roll, and your choice of glaze/frosting or maple syrup. I can only have them once a year because they are Incompatible with my low sugar diet these days, but I make a trip out here once a year just to have those pancakes. Once you taste them, you will know that God is real. All this against a soundtrack of Beatles, Motown, Simon & Garfunkel and Creedence. The ambience is perfect. The owner is a kind, sweet lady, and her staff is wonderful. I have seen her surprise kids at their table with free scoops of ice cream, and she even did that for me once when she found out that I was just coming from a doctor appointment. Unfortunately I picked the wrong time to come here (11:30a on a Friday) because there was a big birthday party in the other room and it was SO LOUD. They were literally SCREAMING. I had brought my laptop to do some work and eat some brunch but it was very hard to concentrate above the noise of that, the overhead music, and something in the open kitchen that sounded like a coffee bean grinder? Orange juicer? The servers ended up being very good and attentive, but clearly they were distracted by the hullabaloo in the other room and it took them a while to get to me in the beginning. The food deserves 4.5 stars. I ordered a smoked salmon bagel which comes with sliced tomato, cucumber, dill, capers, and herbed cream cheese and that was really good, nice with a slide salad of mixed greens. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs which were cooked very nicely. They kept the iced tea refills coming too. I'm sad that the atmosphere was so insufferable today but the food was so good and otherwise the decor is cute and the seats comfortable, so I'll come back sometime and give it another try. read more

This is another place I've passed by a lot and finally decided to stop in and get brunch. Several servers checked in with me even before I ordered. The interior has upscale diner vibes. I got the iced passion fruit latte, which was super interesting -- in a good way! I've never had a passion fruit latte and now I can say I like it. As for food, I got the patatas bravas and I got the sauce on the side because the server gave me the heads-up that the sauces are on the spicy side. And I'm glad I did, because they were a bit spicy.
