Four stars for TaylorMade Golf. I'm a fan…read more When I first started playing golf, throughout the 90s and into the mid 2000s, I was a Callaway man. Every club in my bag, from driver to putter, was Callaway. Then, when the USGA limited the size of driver heads to 460cc, I decided to buy a new driver. I went to my local PGA Tour Superstores and demoed a bunch of them. I tried them out on simulators and recorded my stats (e.g. ball spin, club head speed, distance, launch angle, and of course, accuracy). I also checked the clubs out and took them with me to the range. I had multiple demo sessions between two PGA Tour Superstore locations and the range. This was a big investment decision for me, especially since these drivers cost hundreds of dollars each. Brands I tested included Adams, Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, TaylorMade, and Titleist. After extensive testing, the driver that came out on top for me and my swing was the TaylorMade Burner. I still use the driver to this day with relatively consistent results. I've been very happy with it. It's got a stock regular flex Fujikura graphite shaft and I've had the grip replaced with the tried and true Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip (it's on all my clubs but the putter). Other TaylorMade products I've regularly used include golf balls and golf gloves. I really liked playing the TaylorMade TP Reds before they stopped making them. They felt great. Recently, I've been going through boxes of TaylorMade Dad-isms golf balls. They're more of a gift than a "serious" competition ball. My dad found them on sale/clearance at his local sports store/golf shop. At my skill level, they work just as well as, if not better than, the old TP Reds I used to play. As for gloves, I currently have a small collection of TaylorMade Tour Preferred and Stratus gloves that will last me for years. Again, my dad found many on sale/clearance, this time, at the Golf Galaxy (IIRC) on Hilton Head Island. The gloves feel great. They fit well, are smooth and comfortable, and help give me a good grip on every single one of my clubs. I prefer the Tour Preferred gloves because each one comes with a roughly quarter-size magnetic ball marker on top of the velcro flap; not one of those tiny snap-in button ball markers. Dustin Johnson supposedly wore the same glove (either the Tour Preferred or Stratus, I'm not sure). At the time of writing this review, TaylorMade has a star-studded lineup of PGA Tour players that it sponsors including Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Matthew Wolff, Rickie Fowler, and Rory McIlroy. Currently, TaylorMade's most expensive product is the SIM Driver with an MSRP of $549.99. "SIM" stands for Speed in Motion, a "reshaped" driver with a "speed-injected" "Twist Face," among many other features that have been marketed and hyped up. Twist Face has always sounded gimmicky to me, but admittedly, I haven't tried out the relatively new technology yet. Regardless, TaylorMade is one of the pillar golf brands of today and in my experience, they produce solid clubs and accessories. I recommend their products to casual golfers.

The technology is totally impressive, from the typical Virtual hitting metrics to the 3D mapping of your swing path, to the roll of your golf ball during putting! I am a long time TaylorMade user so I was excited to try out the new SiM2 woods and irons. Ben expertly fitted me with a 1/2" longer shaft as I am 6'3" and getting older, appreciate proper spine position more than ever. He also hooked me up with a driving iron for the 4 and 3 iron as I am not a fan of utility clubs and those babies were sweet. Getting the ball up with my fairway 3wood has been a challenge so we went with a 1.5% increase in loft to really make this easy. Finally, I went with the new Spider putter with 45 degree beveled ridges on the face, great feel. Ben was great to work with. It was the fastest 3.5 hrs of my life. I recently sent a Dual Balance Notchback into the Custom Shop for a simple reshaft, new grip, and a stamp. The shop called me and refused to do the work, claiming the head had "aftermarket work" done to it. Here is the truth: No structural changes: The head has never been milled, welded, or altered by a third party. Basic user tweaks: The only "work" was done by me, consisting of removing the paintfill and swapping the removable head weights. Irrelevant excuse: None of my requested services had anything to do with refinishing the head itself. Even after explaining this clearly to the representative on the phone, they completely refused to help or escalate the issue. To turn away a lifelong brand advocate over user-swapped weights and clean metal is ridiculous. Scotty Cameron's Custom Shop used to be the gold standard. Now, they use lazy policy technicalities to avoid doing basic bench work. If you like to customize your own paint or weights, do not send your putter here, they will waste your time, your shipping money, and refuse to service it.

Before trying GOLFTEC, I went with a couple of private lessons as a complete newbie and didn't have…read morea brilliant time. The swing evaluation at GolfTEC really clicked with me though; you're provided with instant visual feedback (side view & down the line) and metrics on every swing. I walked out of there with the 3-month/10-lesson plan and it's been great fun! The swing evaulation fee was waived, and you even get a fitting thrown in for free also as part of the plan. That I enjoyed my time there is mainly down to the instructor, Don Luvsan, who's been a fantastic coach! Equal parts creative in his methodology, and patient in his delivery and reinforcement. He's a real asset to the facility and I've greatly appreciated my time under his tutelage. Thanks in no small part to Don, I've got a much more consistent swing, and I know why from all the visual feedback. In fact, I just posted my best score on a round this weekend, and have tons more confidence from any situation because we've walked through all of it during the sessions, and all the feedback and video summaries of my lessons are in the online portal if ever I need a refresher. They've got a great sale (which appears to be annual) through the month of August, so I'd encourage you to give Don a call for a swing evaluation and see if the coaching resonates with you. Mileage may vary, but with the 'Game Plan' i signed up for, you get to practice at the facility 3 times a week outside of your usual lesson. When things were quiet, Don was always happy to poke his head in to check on me and work through some sticking points. All that's left is the fitting. Looking forward to it, and I'll be booking in with Don again after I've developed a few bad habits on the course.

Just f'n ended right there. They could've at least scheduled me for a lesson another time. At their expense at that.
