I came in without checking the website because I was in the area; I want an AR-10 for my next firearm... the debate being, buying a Springfield Saint Victor or at least a lower from here to have my fiancé build me one. I asked about Aero Precision build kits or just a lower and was informed that now they machine all their own parts and sell whole custom firearms. They will clean and replace parts annually for free on the firearm's included lifetime warranty. I do like that the parts would all be hand-fitted, but not knowing the history of this company, I am hesitant to buy here. They have reasonable prices and sales; one nice build was 400$ off. I need my fiancé to come check this place out with me, though I am leaning towards the St. Victor (I learned someone's police officer- daughter chose it for her patrol rifle, and a buddy of mine, loves his!). Everyone here is super helpful. Came in several times to look at some ARs and talked to a lot of different guys. They helped me figure out what ergonomics I wanted on my first rifle build and were very helpful with advice on how to build one and build it state-compliant. I've been to a lot of other stores in the North County area, and they have the most parts on the walls for you to look at and consider. They carry all the Magpul furniture here, which I like, and they have a great selection of stripped lower receivers to choose from. I love that they sell most of their complete rifles with CompMags, so you can choose your own method of compliance later without dealing having a bunch of stupid parts on your rifle. I brought my nearly completed AR to them to put in some roll pins I was having trouble with. I damaged one, but they replaced it and installed all the other roll pins for no charge. Purchased a foregrip from them, and they installed it, also no charge. Just great customer service. They have told me lots of times that they would help me build my next one if I wanted. If you want to build your AR and you believe in "try before you buy", this is the place. Leagues ahead of the other gun shops in when it comes to ARs. read more

I don't usually leave negative reviews, but my experience at Firearms Unknown was frustrating enough that I felt it was worth sharing. My buddy and I stopped by to complete a private sale transfer -- something they advertise as a service they offer. When we got there, the store was completely empty, yet we were immediately told they "couldn't" help us because it didn't fit into their supposed time slot for private sales. The employee came off as dismissive and even said they were "too busy right now," despite no customers in the store. They also mentioned it wouldn't make them "enough money" to help us at that moment, which honestly was pretty shocking to hear from any business, let alone one that relies on community trust. We ended up leaving without getting anything done. If you're looking for a shop that values customer service or respects your time, this is definitely not the place. I'd recommend going somewhere more professional and less arbitrary with their policies. read more

I needed to replace the magazine release on my rifle. After buying the part online it became clear that a special tool was needed to make the swap. I went to the Oceanside Firearms Unknown where they were all friendly, smiling and helpful. After digging around in the back room they located the tool which I expected them to sell me, but they made the swap. I'm thinking a minimum of $25 charge, but they said "no charge" today. You don't hear that very often in today's world. I've been using Turners but they are always crazy busy with long waits. My future gun needs will be met at Firearms Unknown. read more

Needed my gun "repaired" as the trigger wouldn't pull. They thought it might be dirty and suggested a thorough cleaning. Turns out it wasn't any "dirt" that caused the problem, it was a missing spring. I located the spring and they reassembled my now spotlessly clean gun... And now it's all good! read more

I was recommended firearms unknown from my favorite gun range and I'm so glad I ended up giving this shop a visit . As someone who is brand new to ARs , I wasn't sure where to start , but I knew I wanted to build my own rifle piece by piece . DJ was very helpful in educating me on the difference between the types of stripped lowers and how they are manufactured , which helped me narrow down my decision. I wasn't ready to purchase yet ,but once I was, I came right back into the shop and ended up going with one of their house stripped lowers ! I'm very excited to start my project ! This will definitely be a go-to shop from now on. When I was doing the DROS paper work , Riley was very thorough and made everything seem like a breeze compared to other "big box " stores . I love these folks. Great service, cool staff and knowledgeable. What is important to me, is that they don't speak down to you. What I mean is, most gun shop's will talk to you like your an idiot if you don't know everything, I've been a long time shooter, but I'm getting into new stuff, so I have lots of questions. Most gun shops act you are wasting their time. These folks don't. I think I've interacted with most everyone there, but I usually speak with Reilly. He's been super helpful with advice and purchases for both my rifles and pistols. I have a gen 2 Glock that was jamming and they got me fixed up, and although I love shooting with iron sights, I wanted a scope for my rifle. Just went in with my wife and kid in tow, guys behind the counter were awesome and helpful, I can't say enough about how welcoming the place felt. They're knowledgeable and will go above and beyond to help you out. I got a stripped lower as they were sold out everywhere else, but everything else seems to be priced a too high in my opinion. So the staff gets high marks but the price gouging is evident and I'd shop elsewhere for anything but a lower. 5 stars for the employees, -4 stars for the cheaper than dirt style price gouging they have going on there. Rifles marked up 50% is definitely taking advantage of the current times. From a company that is supposed to be all about the 2nd amendment and freedom they are full corporate greed in their prices. read more

First off this place is super clean and nice. They did a killer job in setting up the store. They have a huge selection of handguards with such brands as Troy, ALG, ARMS, Magpul, and well there were really too many to list. They have a ton of upper receivers and AR related parts including a huge selection for .308 builds, Glock builds, 1911 builds, 10/22 builds and every accessory to go with your build or if you feel like upgrading your rifle or pistol. They have a bunch of awesome knives, stun guns, and armorer's tools as well as prepping supplies and first aid items. Finally, i was really impressed with not only their optics selection, but also their prices. All of their optics were priced lower than what i could find online!! Score!! They have a ton of eo tech's, acogs, aimpoints, leupolds, weavers and sig sauer optics. Two cases full!! Your store did something extraordinary for me a few years ago (perhaps 3 or 4 years?), and I have felt bad for not writing this review far earlier. It's the customer service I want to rave about here. Even though this was a long while back, I remember the key service detail because no other store has done this level of favor for me. Ever. (I'm sorry I don't remember the names of the employees; it has been a long time) The story: I brought in an AR to your Oceanside store, and an employee helped me pick out a cool accessory. They installed it while I waited. I paid, and left. I got home, was examining the AR, and realized that a small piece was missing. I called the store, they found the part, apologized profusely for not reinstalling it, and then the guy actually VOLUNTEERED TO DRIVE OVER TO MY HOUSE, after he got off work the same day, and INSTALL it at my house. I was blown away. I said OK. Sure enough (it was late in the day) , an hour or so later he showed up. He was as nice as he could be, and was apologetic for the error. We had a nice conversation hanging out in my garage while he installed the part, and of course now the AR was fine. With that one gesture of kindness, your store proved to me you were heads and shoulders above the rest. And I hope this note of thanks is better late than never. Thank you again! read more

Completed an FFL transaction here. Overall the guys that work here are very knowledgeable and helpful. The process dragged on more than usually. I was briefed like 8 times on various different things that I felt I didn't need to hear. Not sure why half of that stuff was said, maybe we're in California and they want to cover their ass? Anyways, selection was great over all... expect to pay more for ammo due to the situation. There was a little bit of everything to include lowers (which I felt were a little over priced), hand guns and shot guns. For a small store they had a lot in the cases. If they can get some cheap Anderson lowers I will probably come back and pick one up. I recommend this place but make sure to call ahead and sometimes the lines can get to 2 hours wait. I really enjoy doing business with this place. Unlike another local gun shop, that I left a much worse review, these guys are always friendly and eager to help. The staff is knowledgeable, and they seem to still have quite a nice bit of inventory, at a time when most shops are running pretty thin. I witnessed another client bring in his gun to be looked at, and after inspection, the manager popped off the upper, said it looked prematurely worn, and handed the client a brand new one. On both trips to this store, all of the staff was friendly, professional, and went out of their way to ensure everything went smoothly with my purchase. I was surprised by the wide variety of rifles and pistols they had in stock compared to my local FFLs.
