The buddy and I were transferring a rifle I was buying from him so we headed to Iron Sights after I called in and made an appointment the week before. As you know, if you are a firearms enthusiast, a person to person sale of any firearm needs to go through an FFL due to the draconian laws by the miserable knuckleheads in Sacramento. So we, as law abiding citizens, met between where we live to dutifully follow the rules and get this sale/transfer done. Cause you know, this is what criminals do as they don't want to break the law. HA, HA! The particular rifle was something a very dear friend of mine used to have and I loved using it when we would go shooting together. Unfortunately we lost him during covid and I have always wanted one, especially to remember hanging out with him at his property and shooting targets and the washing machine. Anyway, back to Iron Sights. Since we had an appointment, we started the process exactly at 11:30am as agreed. That was great. Chris was the dude who would lead us through the process and we filled out our paperwork, provided driver's licenses, utility bill, CCW license and six gold bullions. Ok, just kidding about the gold, but I did have to pay the dopes in Sacramento more money just to enjoy one of my hobbies... Chris was patient and serious about the accuracy of our forms having us check and re-check the data. That was awesome. Chris was awesome. Thanks Chris and thanks for protecting us while you were in the USMC! I have a shooting range closer to me, but next time I will be shooting at Iron Sights. Go. Get things done. HAVE FUN!

Big on Gun safety. 2 different ranges depending on bullet size. Suprising was so cheap, and they have a good pistol variety. Solid experience.

Local to me (4 miles from home). Does NOT require a ridiculous membership fee like most other ranges.... it's a straight flat fee (discounted for us retired military types). Well stocked shop and plenty of guns to rent (did this for several years before buying my Sig P226 and an SW MP 12). Have been taking my now adult sons here since back when they were teenagers. The BEST place to drop in, quickly get a lane and spit out dollar bills from your " main squeeze" or try a rental. Guns for sale as well. Staff knows their stuff.

This is a cool range, but it is on the smaller side. There's also axe throwing. Staff is cool as well.

He does an excellent job explaining both the legal side and the practical, real-world considerations of carrying, and he takes the time to answer every question thoroughly. Nothing felt rushed, and no question was brushed off. You can tell he has real experience and knows how to teach in a clear, approachable way. The course was well organized, informative, and engaging from start to finish. Patrick creates a comfortable learning environment while still emphasizing safety and responsibility, which I really appreciated. If you're looking for a CCW instructor who is patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in his students, I highly recommend Patrick Russ. I'd absolutely take another course from him and would recommend him without hesitation.

But after my third disappointing experience at North County Shooting Center, something needs to be said. As an experienced shooter, I came in with a reasonable request -- simply to use a tool for a minor fix I was fully capable of doing myself. Instead of any assistance, I was met with poor customer service, a dismissive attitude, and unprofessional staff behavior. The response I received felt smug and unhelpful, which is the exact opposite of what a well-run range should offer. What's even more frustrating is that this isn't an isolated incident. This range consistently shows a lack of support for customers, even those who clearly know what they're doing. Meanwhile, Poway Weapons & Gear continues to provide excellent service, respectful staff, and real customer care -- a night-and-day difference. Because of this ongoing pattern, I won't be returning, and I'll make sure other shooters know not to waste their time or money here. Places like this need to hear when their customer experience is pushing people away.
