I ordered a shotgun supposedly in stock, well it took a 8 days to get there, then come in and start the 10 day wait (not their fault). Went in to do a PPT (Private part transfer) and we were turned away. We were told you have to make an appointment. I would completely understand if they were busy that we would have to wait but there was only one other customer in the store who was on his way out when we got there. A PPT only takes 15mins. Part of being an FFL in CA requires you to process PPTs since they are required by law. As a business turing away customers is never a good idea. I used to purchase things here regularly as well as have had their gunsmith do work for me.q read more

Came in today to take the test and get a license. Keith helped me and explained the procedure very patiently. After passing my test, I got my license. As they've been busy, they had limited guns to choose from. Keith suggested that I go try a variety at a shooting range and come back with more knowledge of which type i like and feel comfortable with. He even suggested the shooting range for me to go to. Best shop in San Diego area! the staff is super courteous, patient and knowledgeable. They helped me make purchasing decisions into accessories and firearms I wasn't familiar with and under zero pressure. I talked with my guy over several visits while picking up ammo for stuff I already had. The feedback and conversations had also made my online research easier to sort through. Once I felt educated about the new platforms, I was guided thru options, shown an array of choices and felt really happy about my purchase! 1Hundred percent I know these guys want my business, because they care more about my satisfaction then their bottom line and profit margins on items. They've made a customer for life. Additionally this shop has the right folks in house for mods, gunsmith'ing and aligning sights, scopes etc. My installed options were done on time and to my specs. I love my new setup with holographic / magnifier optics. For this reason, I definitely recommend this shop for the most experienced shooters as well. Additionally, it can be overwhelming as a novice walking into a firearms shop. While shopping for myself, I've seen gunther staff walk customers through the process, making them feel comfortable and confident about their first purchase by educating them. I've been to some spots in LA that guys behind the counter just care about how many sales they can make in a day. My first trip to Gunther Guns turned out to be my last. My first impression was excellent. I could see that the store took all of the COVID-19 guidelines very seriously, and I did not mind waiting in line, wearing a mask, and physically distancing myself from others. In fact, I welcome close adherence to the guidelines during this terrible pandemic. I am interested in purchasing a certain type of handgun, as well as a 500 round case of ammunition for it. I was very pleased to note that, although the handgun cases were almost competely empty, several of the type I was seeking to buy were on display. I stood in front of the case displaying the guns, sometimes bending over and squinting at their attached tags to learn more about them, but not a single salesperson asked to assist me. That is, to assist me in spending over $800 at Gunther Guns. Several walked by, both behind the counter and behind me on the sales floor. None spoke to me, although I think one may have glanced at me. Perhaps I should have tripped one as they zoomed by. So, apparently all the training effort has been spent on COVID-19 procedures rather than on salesmanship. The result was a waste of time for me. Well, I found out where not to buy a firearm, I guess. By contrast, Turners has the same stringent pandemic procedures, but each firearm customer pulls a number, and when the number is called, that customer gets a knowledgeable salesperson's full attention for as long as necessary. Perhaps that's why I have purchased so often there. These are hard times for the retail business, and perhaps expecting a bare minimum of service at Gunther Guns is asking too much. read more

I once owned various weapons: 9mm, 45ACP, 12Ga shottie, .22LR rifle and an AR-15. Before moving out of AZ, I sold off everything. Ten years later, the pandemic hit and with so many people out of work, our anxiety levels are hitting all-time highs. I no longer am comfortable with having just a taser and a baseball bat for home defense. Gunther is one of very few gun shops in North County San Diego, which was never an issue in AZ. Perhaps it's just not profitable enough in CA anymore. That being said, my first trip to Gunther was to fill out paperwork for an FFL transfer. I bought online since I could have time to peruse and research. Gunther was way too busy to allow for "window shopping". I had to take the Firearms Safety Certification test - which is pretty easy. Also had to submit the DROS application for background check and wait for 10 days. I haven't purchased any firearms in CA before and was surprised that even my shotgun had a 10-day wait. Each time I went to Gunther, they were PACKED. Literal lines out the door. They said before the pandemic, they would maybe see four customers a day, if any. Now fear and panic is driving sales (including me). However my last visit there, it was completely empty. I was the only customer. Either folks ran out of money or everyone has a gun now...who knows. Either way, the employees of Gunther were always polite and courteous. I had a slightly negative experience at the "other" gun place in San Marcos so Gunther is my go-to FFL joint for the foreseeable future. I now have both my shottie and my .22LR pistol. Thanks to the folks at Gunther for making my experience enjoyable despite the craziness outside. read more

100% would recommend to any first-time buyer, or experienced gun owner. 1 thing that I noticed here that I am very fond of: 0% chance of feeling stupid regarding any question, and 0% chance of bad vibes with the staff. The 1st time that I entered Gunther Guns during the cough & sneeze pandemic to purchase my very own firearm, I found myself caught up in the hype of everything going on outside in the world, and Gregg Gunther himself (with the assistance of his incredibly beautiful and patient wife, Lisa Gunther) assisted me with the most relaxed and easy-going demeanor and really helped soothe my mind to help guide me into my most trusted handgun to this day, the S&W M&P Shield. This was during a time where all the shelves were at practically 0 in stock, and this was also during an ideal time that most business would've blown their prices through the roof, but they had almost 0 added costs, and that really showed me who wanted to arm the citizens vs who wanted to harm the citizens. All of that being said, they have remained my #1 shop and I have absolutely 0 complaints; in fact some of their staff such as Sebastian with his very professional approach to everything, mixed with Brian and his super personable skills (all very well-spoken and firearm-savvy), seems to be the underlying reason why I find myself wandering in over and over and over again and walking out with $0 available funds on my credit cards, haha. Staff are horrible, and waste your time. Tell you to come in at a certain time and they can help you,, but decide to go take there break when you show up. Always a long line with never enough staff present. Prepare to waste a few hours waiting around for them to blow you off. First time doing business here and I will never come back or recommend it to anyone. Absolutely have no idea how they have a good rating especially with how badly they overcharge for every item in the store.
