This is Filipino food the way it's supposed to prepared and served! Absolutely delicious! The service was impeccable; friendly, courteous, and attentive at all times. Smaller settings like this add to the overall ambiance and enhance the dining experience. Mabuhay!

Food: I can't brag enough about this place. Best Filipino food in the city! Service: Always great service. Kind and friendly. Ambiance: Nice quaint place. Lots of character.

My first restaurant in San Antonio! I wanted to find a restaurant that reminded me of home... and this was it! Their longsilog for breakfast was amazing. The longanisa was flavorful and I liked how there were some crispy edges. The garlic rice was good, and the runny yolk was good. I did wish the runny yolk had salt/pepper, but the vinegar helped. The employees were super nice, and I loved the homey vibe. Will definitely be back!!

Had an amazing experience at Kabayan Kusina! The food was delicious and full of authentic Filipino flavors that felt like a home-cooked meal. Great portions, friendly staff, and a warm atmosphere made the visit even better. Definitely a hidden gem in San Antonio and a place I'd happily visit again!

    Pancit palabok

A great discovery via TikTok. This is a cozy little spot tastefully decorated with plants. I was greeted by friendly staff. I ordered the pancit palabok...been ordering this for years at Jollibee, so it's time I get the real thing. I also ordered the Shanghai lumpia. The palabok had fresh shrimps, hard boil eggs, and pork rinds in an orange yellow sauce. I mixed it up with the noodles and gulped down a wonderful mix of creamy and crunchy. The only thing I would have changed is add cilantro instead of the parsley. Their lumpia is the biggest I've seen. I got 6 of these wand size lumpias. And it came with what I guess is a tamarind sauce. Delicious! Not being a Filipino, I can't say it authentic, but it sure tasted like it. Also the place was completely packed and 70% people there were Filipino. Filipino aunties and uncles can't be wrong. There was a sizable amount of food. I only put away half. I guess I know what I'm having for dinner.

I don't have Filipino food very often, so I wouldn't call myself an expert, but this spot was pretty good and unique. The milkfish was perfectly fried, super crispy. My absolute favorite part of the meal was the garlic rice. It was so aromatic, buttery, and addicting, it is honestly something I could eat on its own. My husband really enjoyed the sweet sausages too, they had that perfect balance of savory and sweet. The only dish I didn't love as much was the pancit, which was a bit too salty for my taste, but it was still nicely presented. Overall, the experience was great and the owner was so kind, attentive, and clearly takes pride in their food. The setting itself had such cute, casual vibes, making it a great place to grab a relaxed and comforting meal. I'd definitely love to come back and try some of their other dishes next time!

I have been to this restaurant several times since they first opened. The owner is so so sweet! Always smiling welcoming and very friendly! I have tried many dishes. I love the presentation and the food is actually delicious! Tonight I saw they have added couple things to the menu! I decided to order ginisang con carne. Bitter gourd and meat and apparently there is eggs in it too. It was so good I devoured it! I also tried the calamansi juice. It is out of a can but still it was super refreshing. Makes me want to go travel! I loved how the owners family and friends show up to the restaurant sit down eat... kids running... her big smile telling them there is still customers to keep it down.... It is all heart warming and the real example of small hole in the wall family owned business Highly recommend!

I walked in for dinner and left emotionally supported and very full! I met a new friend today and she mentioned Kabayan, I immediately b-lined it there. It feels so homey and welcoming! Lots of families and the waitresses were super sweet, informative and basically adopted my husband and I! We had great convos and even better food! We tried the Lumpia 4/5, the chicharon bualklak 3/5 (a little too greasy for my taste), Crispy belly roll 5/5!! It's a roll of lechon with rice and sauces on the side! Beef Bulalo 5/5! Comforting, warm and it hit the spot! The place is small but absolutely perfect! Will definitely be bisonte again soon'

Some of the best Filipino food is served here. I haven't had a single bad thing on the menu, and they also offer a great lunch deal. If you're feeling hungry, order the crispy pata for 7lb of pork. I went with ginataang hipon the most recent time that I ate there, and it's a delicious shrimp dish. And of course you have to get the lumpia! Service is very friendly and the restaurant has a very casual but homey feel.

Today, we were looking to remember and celebrate Mom's birthday in heaven. We were in the Medical Center area and decided to visit @kabayankusina.satx for dinner. Glenda first took our orders, then Sheryl took great care of us. Dad had the Sago Gulaman drink, and Hubby and I both had unsweet tea. We then started with the Lumpiang Shanghai. The Kare-kare (oxtail) was served in the traditional palayok (clay pot). The Crispy Belly Roll is pork belly stuffed with lemon grass, minced garlic, onion, and scallions. The crunch is excellent! We had the Sisig, Laing (taro leaves), and ended with the Halo Halo. Dad has long looked for the Laing at different Filipino restaurants since it's native to Naga City/Bicol region, where he was born. The Halo Halo is topped with ube ice cream, which was Mom's favorite. We have so much food leftover for another couple of meals. If you're in the Medical Center area and looking for a different variety of Filipino food, stop by and check it out!

    Lunch special
    Hanna D.

Today we went to Kabayan Kusina for the first time and were blown away by the food, the service, the prices, and the overall homey vibes. The lunch specials are $13.99 and come with an entree, rice, pancit, and a lumpia roll. Everything was so delicious and the portions were huge. It reminds me of the homecooked meals that my Filipino friends' moms used to make for us growing up. We're definitely going to come back to try other authentic entrees! My only regret was that we didn't leave room for dessert.

Another good find thanks to Yelp! Friendly, fast, and delicious! Four of us shared the lumpia, sisig, pinakbet, and adobo. Very good and there were leftovers. Nice, clean place. Highly recommend!

Oh man, where to begin... while looking into Filipino food spots in San Antonio, this place kept…read morecoming up over and over again. Safe to say, the hype led me here--and here's how it went. AMBIANCE Parking: Two plazas one to the store and one to the restaurant. So you shouldn't have any issues. Seating: Plenty! Room for maybe 70-100. Great for individuals, pairs, large groups, such as party reservations. Vibes: My pulse of San Antonio was pretty charming (especially the Downtown area). This area is moreover the grit and grind/not so touristy area but an important contributor to the San Antonio economy none the less. The restaurant/bakery/store itself is awesome! I dig the mural of Filipino-descent player - Dylan Harper, there's even a cool playground outside for kids. It was cool receiving a warm kamayan welcome from the servers as you enter. I like the Filipino tropical energy the restaurant gives out from the plant decor, art, and their homage to their roots from their ancestor shelf. The pop lofi music in the background was comforting to chill and enjoy the food. Great for a solo food adventure, catch up meal with a friend, or special occassion party. FOOD / DRINKS Sari-Sari Special (Recommend) For all indecisive people, this is the way, this is the choice. I ordered the three main plate specifically choosing the (Diniguan, Chicken adobo, and Fried Pork Belly). The staples of the lumpia and noodles were a delight. Lumpia had a nice umami crunch and the noodles were comforting. Chicken Adobo - is my usual baseline to measure foods and this provided a nice comfort feel with a balance of savory soy-vinegar with a lot of sauce to add on to your rice. Dinuguan - if you don't know, now you know. This pork stew was another comfort delight. As the gravy mixed well with the vinegar and spices. A good stew texture with that signature rich savory and tangy flavors. Pork Belly Kawali - For something signature, this is it. As recommended by Owner Adrian - usually you need special sauce to complement this dish but it stands very well alone - a rich savory balance of crispy edges, tender pork meat, and natural buttery fat with every slice. Ube Horchata (Recommend) This was a fun fusion drink. A homage to the Mexican influences and Filipino influences. Creamy, cinnamon-forward horchata mixed with ube sweetness. CUSTOMER SERVICE Rome was great! Friendly and knowledgable on the menu. I enjoyed our conversation. TL;DR OVERALL 5 Stars. Great food, reasonable prices, and a pleasant vibe. I enjoyed my experience here overall. I'm usually critical on Filipino restaurants as they can't top my family's cooking but I feel like this complements their cooking. I'd actually take them over here for the food and the community comfort. For those in San Antonio, this place is definitely worth stopping by. Salamat and ingat to Adrian, Camille, and the rest of the Sari-Sari family. #FilipinoFoodMovement #RepresentAZN TIPS: * A great intro for first timers to Filipino food. Be sure to try combo plates if it's your first time--you get more variety * Don't skip the market section

I've not had much else here except the pork barbecue since the pata is a favorite. I tried the lumpia sometime ago and it wasn't bad at all. Service was quick, though it was not during peak hours. Filipino pop music covers play in the background, and the decor adds to the feel of being back in the islands. The Filipino service and cook staff also are good signs. There is a store connected to the restaurant where you can find great Filipino staples like snacks and condiments and even frozen items like tocino and bangus. Definitely will be back as I always do when I'm in San Antonio.

As a filipino, I love sweet longanisa but I prefer the sausage wrapped ones because I like a bit of char on it. I didn't love their pancit, but loved their garlic rice. We also tried their kwek kwek (fried quail eggs) and it was tasty and love that it came with suka (vinegar sauce). I asked for a sweet chili sauce as well. There's a few streetfood items here that's hard to get elsewhere in San Antonio, like bulaklak. I was tempted to try even though it's pretty unhealthy. They're crispy, fried pork tissue fat and usually have a nice chewy texture. My favorite thing that we ordered was the pork sisig. It came out on a sizzling plate. I just wish it had more mayo and garnishes on it. Mostly just pork flavor. Our waiter was nice and the freshly made juice was amazing. We got a huge glass of fresh watermelon juice and calamansi lemonade. The restaurant itself seems like a venue for parties too, since they have a small karaoke stage. They also connect to a small grocery store with several Filipino staples. I was able to pick up Datu Puti vinegar and some Boy Bawang cornick! This was the absolute strangest dining experience ever. My son, friend, and I went for lunch today…read more We were thinking to try the lunch buffet, since none of us had been there before. When we arrived at 12:15, the place was empty. It was really strange... was there no 'lunch rush'? Anyhow, there was a guy behind the counter but offered no assistance. We didn't know if we sit ourselves or wait to be seated; so we asked. He looked confused. My son went to the counter (where they sell pleather wallets, Funko Pop dolls, olive oil, and purses). Yes, you read that right. The guy offered one menu for the three of us, saying they only had the one. It looked like someone took a bite out of it (part of it was missing). Since we were planning to eat there, we sat ourselves and decided to make the best of it. A lady came to the table (we thought she might be the owner). She mentioned she can only offer four items on the entire menu - she then rattled off what they were - but it was so fast, I don't remember what she said. There was no buffet, and nothing else. I'd never had Filipino food before, so I had questions. We never got to my questions. She asked my son what he'd like. Since he didn't get to look at the one menu yet, he said that he'd like to get lumpia for the office and chicken adobo. She asked how many lumpia and he said about twenty. She then told him they were $1 each and walked away. That was it. We weren't allowed to finish ordering. He didn't even get a drink order in before she walked away. We sat there giggling about how strange this encounter was. We assumed she would have been back to get the rest of our orders. She did not return. Fifteen minutes later, she comes out and says everything is ready to go. We all look at each other wondering what happened. In unison, we got up and went to the cashier. I mentioned to her that we were all hoping to order and try their food; but she didn't give us the chance. She looked shocked and offered to finish taking our orders, but we had to explain that our time was wasted and we now had to get drive thru food and hurry back to work. The 'lumpia' was way over cooked - gave the impression of egg rolls (which is what I've been calling them); and his chicken adobo was gross - gray colored chicken. We fully expected my son to get sick. He hasn't yet - which is good. This is an excellent way to guarantee we will absolutely NOT be back.

As I waited for my food I noticed she was either on FaceTime or watching videos with her phone on the prep table/cutting board while rolling raw lumpia. This is so unsanitary, phones hoard ALOT of germs. As for the food, it was ok, pork sticks could've used more char and sauce, lechon cuts had an equal amount of meat to fat ratio, pancit needs just a touch more flavoring, rice was nice and dry the way I like it. I tried one lumpia because I was pretty grossed out about her phone and they were tasty, crunchy, and rolled tight. Overall it was ok.
