    Outside from Baseline
    Ian K.

This place is located on Baseline on the NE corner near 27th Ave. I recently have gone to a few Middle Eastern/Greek places. This place is a little more expensive than Green corner in Chandler but I would say the taste on the Gyro (see photo). The hot sauce is pretty good. The tahini and pickles in the gyro add something more. If you are out in this out of the way location, it is worth it.

First time in and I think they are closing soon. My friend who has a really restricted diet due to severe allergies, so we carefully selected this India place. My rice was dry and flavorless the meat was burnt and the hummus wasn't flavorful either after looking as such. The place was ok, and being that they closed down says a lot. They weren't friendly, but that could be just a cultural barriers a lot of foreigners choose to carry, definitely one sided because why would we even try the place?! Anyhow, that didn't deter us from ordering it was just once we got the food it was just disappointing. They place was fairly clean and decorated as they were just opening or getting started so that's ok. But I won't miss the place.

"NEVER COMING BACK" Service was nice but I'm writing this review based on flavor alone. I have eaten at countless Afghani restaurants and this one has to be one of the WORST! -Rice : 4/10 Flavor is good and very traditional; good amount of cumin but not overwhelming. -Meat: 2/10: no flavor. Very small amount of meat compared to price. $17 -Hummus: 0/10: my toddler can make better hummus. -Salad: 10/10: you can't mess that up. I finish the whole thing anyway, because I was so hungry and I had just finished fasting during Ramadan. Will I be back?? I WILL NOT COME BACK.

    Falafel with Rice

Love to support local business and wanted to try this place since it is close to home. I got the falafel plate which came with falafel, rice, salad, and pita. The falafel was very bland in flavor and wished I would have just stuck to a meat plate instead. The rice and salad was okay. I had high hopes but don't see myself coming back. However please keep in mind everyone taste buds are different so don't knock it until you try it! Wishing Kabab King continued success.

Updating my review because the last 2 times my friend and I ordered from this location, definitely was not like our previous experience. Food and service was definitely not consistent and definitely disappointing to the degree that we have opted to give this place a break. The lady working here does not seem to have the same care we encountered previously. I ordered the falafel salad again and it is a pretty good size salad, but it only comes with 1/2 of a two ounce cup of dressing. What's not so enjoyable is there is an additional charge of you want more dressing and tzatziki. We totally understand prices are rising for everything, including the price of our salads....however, the least they could do is fill the 2 ounce cup waits enough dressing for at least some of the salad. My friend had the tandoori chicken salad and was also disappointed. Maybe the worker needs some help making the food? But she seems to be miserable. We truly wish we could give a better review, but we are just giving an honest review...food was mediocre

The food was good but we ordered the kabob combo plate and they forgot the beef portion..

Beef Koobideh entree for $17! Tiny meat and hummus portions with just a whole lot of rice !

ARE Y'ALL EATING THE SAME FOOD I JUST DID? Because if so, I don't understand how this place is still in business. I paid $17 for a bed of rice with two tiny kebabs, and 2 tablespoons of hummus as seen in the picture. This place first of all is a rip off, it's way too expensive for the quantity, and the quality of food that they are providing. In addition, there is absolutely no flavor in the meat. It was a complete and utter disappointment. They gave one tiny quarter slice of a pita to go with the grocery store bought canned hummus that they thinned down with.....I can't believe I'm saying this, but water?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!! I have never had a worse experience with Middle Eastern food. And trust me I've had Middle Eastern food throughout the world. It seems like just about anyone can Google Middle Eastern recipes online and think they can open a restaurant. It blows my mind to realize how bad this food truly was!! You literally could not pay me to eat at that establishment ever again. Complete disgrace and disappointment to Middle Eastern food. I'm embarrassed for them.

Chicken curry with rice, hummus and a small salad

This is my second time eating this meal. This red curry with chicken was so tasty. It was a little spicy but so good. Portion was a good size with plenty of rice and pita bread.

I have been here at least 5 times. I order to-go online & drive to pickup - it's usually ready within 20-25 min. They keep it in a warmer until you arrive, so it stays hot & fresh. My orders have always been complete/exactly as I ordered. We've tried the Tandoori chicken, chicken Shawarma, gyros, hummus, baba ghanoush & dolmas. All the meat is perfectly seasoned & tender. Tandoori chicken is my favorite so far - just the right amount of spiciness! :) but all the foods we've tried are excellent & always very friendly customer service.

Great service, super helpful staff, and they just started a rewards program last week. I will definitely return just for the pet friendliness and great service alone. The food slaps. So that is amazing too. The only negative is the price but you're definitely paying for quality and flavor, so that's not an issue for me. Edit: the CRISPIEST Greek Fries I have ever had and for that I am naming the best.

A family owned sit-down full service place that is quaint, charming and welcoming. We ate in, but there were more carry out orders going than diners. We went after seeing the other good reviews and, as always, Yelpers usually don't miss. We were quickly welcomed and seated. The menu is straightforward, with a nice mix of Mediterranean foods. We had the Chicago gyros, chicken schwarma, beef kofta, lemon rice soup, tabbouleh salad and fries. All were great, but the fries were outstanding! I've eaten a lot of fried potatoes in my life, and really none better. They rounded out the meal-hot, fresh, crunchy and soft. Perfect! If I had to have a "complaint," the lemon garlic aioli on the schwarma was a bit too much, get that "on the side" so you can manage that. Otherwise a great meal. OPA!

Downtown Phoenix is not a monolith. It's not only Roosevelt Row, or the sports district, or the…read moreCapitol. There's a wide range of neighborhoods, each with their own distinct character. Today, looking for an early dinner spot, I came upon Baiz Market. A small Middle Eastern grocery store with a sit down restaurant inside called Al-Hana. There's actually three Baiz Markets here in town, but the original is tucked away just east of the Garfield neighborhood on the eastern fringe of Downtown. I've had some great Middle Eastern fare here in town from the likes of places such as Middle Eastern Bakery and Haji Baba. But Arizona Republic food columnist Dominic Armato has said Al-Hana is one of his top 100 go to spots in the valley. So on a Thursday afternoon, off I went. You'll find Al-Hana inside the original Baiz Market on the southeast corner of 20th Street and Fillmore. There are also Baiz Markets in west Phoenix and now in west Mesa, each with their own Al-Hana restaurants. But this one is the original. Adnan Baiz and his family run this local chain which is open to all, but catering particularly to the valley's growing Middle Eastern community. In the time I spent inside Baiz today, there was a kaleidoscope of customers coming in and out. From Downtown college kids, to Muslim families, to Latino workers stopping in for a meal, and even a few African American grandmothers just grabbing some grocery items. Clearly I'm not the only one in the area who knows about this place. But how good is the food at Al-Hana? Step up to the counter in back, gaze at the menu above (or at the display case below) and make your choices. I ordered an app and an entree for my first go around. First, a small cheese pie. A mix of feta and mozzarella cheeses on house made dough which is crimped to make sure none of that cheesy goodness escapes. Heated in the oven and served warm. For my entree, I went for a Chicken Shawarma entree. Basmati rice, veggies, pickles, garlic sauce, and a pair of large pita bread slices. Oh and of course the chicken, seasoned and sliced off the spinning grill right in front of you. Total cost for everything including tax? About $11. Food came out to me in a little less than 5 minutes. You can also get it to go if you want, but I dined in the small seating area next to the kitchen this go around. First, the cheese pie. And I now get why Yelpers and Armato hype this up. The dough is the best part. Crunchy on the outside, but soft, chewy, and hearty on the inside. And the cheese mix is perfect. And for just $1 its a perfect starter snack for pretty much any meal. How about the shawarma plate? The chicken was excellent. Seasoned perfectly with just a hint of char. The sides? Meh. The basmati rice was actually a big disappoint to be honest. Super dry and almost flavorless. The pita bread was fine, though I've had better on that front as well. All things considered though, a pretty decent meal (and portion) and a solid value for the price. Next time I'm here I'll probably opt for the kabobs, or perhaps grab a meat pie. Given the uniqueness of the groceries available here, the fully halal restaurant menu, and the mixed neighborhood it resides in, I can understand why Baiz endures in Downtown's ever changing landscape. We're much more spoiled for choice on Middle Eastern cuisine in the valley today than when Baiz originally opened in 2004. And there are many other Middle Eastern restaurants that can match or top Al-Hana's food at this point. But much the way Ranch Markets offer a unique way to shop for the valley's Latino communities, Baiz is giving the valley's Middle Eastern residents something with them in mind. If ever there was an establishment in the valley proving that Phoenix is becoming an international food destination, its Baiz.
