Chose Sumatera because I just wanted a nice hole-in-the-wall homely feel. Small but personalized experience and prompt service. For the food, lots of traditional dishes on the appetizers and main course section. I ordered the Batagor drenched in peanut sauce to warm up with flavor flooding. This is a popular Indonesian street food consisting of fried fish dumplings and tofu under a splash of peanut sauce, sweet soy sauce and lime juice. Something new and this dish hits well to start the visit. Main course, chose the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng, a classic you can't beat. Since the food here is the closest authentic Indonesian spot in NYC, I had to try it here. Not one part of the dish was off. The coconut rice, spicy sambal, spiced deep fried chicken, crispy anchovies, peanuts and the fried egg complimented each other. This was a shared dish as my mom and I are tiny eaters but we cleaned the plate on this one. Secret operation was to introduce another restaurant to my mom and she was very pleased with this pick of mine. She grew up eating many forms of Southeast Asian cuisines from her childhood. It was a successful mission when you see your parent requesting to order the restaurant's sauce and extra takeout.

The chicken had to be 4 days old and to top it off, it had absolutely no seasoning. Really gross and it was a pretty easy way to lose me as a first time and one time customer. The fries were well seasoned and crispy. I'll give them that. I also ordered a bbq chicken burrito which wasn't terrible but nothing to write home about. The employees seemed more interested in the soccer game on tv than actually putting some love into their food. Wouldn't really recommend in those items alone but their salads did look fresh. Meh.

First off the place is so cute, it's a long narrow restaurant with a good amount of seating, and you can watch them make and bake the feteer fresh to order. The people are so nice there and the food was DELICIOUS I do recommend setting aside some time or calling ahead if you can since it can take around 20 minutes to assemble this delicious creation. Get the mixed meat one and you will not be disappointed. The melty, gooey cheese runs throughout the large hefty chunks of meat sandwiched within this rich, delicious bread that keeps it all together. I ate the whole thing myself in a day. Don't forget to throw on the hot and white sauce on it too!

Once the weather gets warmer we will definitely return to sit in the back courtyard that I didn't even know they had. Another gem in this area, so much rich culture.

Overall everything was 100/10 I will definitely come back and is open minded to try more food off the menu. Dominic was absolutely amazing 1000/10, I believe he knew it was my first time he was very patient with my girlfriend and myself. With an amazing smile and was just happy to help. He helped me pronounce the food items I couldn't get correct. Overall he gave me choices and options that were great that I really enjoyed. I don't remember the bartender names but he was great as well. His drinks were perfectly blended I felt like I was on vacation on a beach having them. But when I come back I definitely want to choose them! Ambiance was LUXURIOUS. Very clean, utensils were very clean as if it the a grand opening. I love the aesthetics and the color coordination and to the plates and silverware. Overall I recommend anyone especially if it's your first time. Pros: seated quickly, ambiance was lovely, appetizers came out quickly, the Lasuni Gobi was delicious. CONS: My husband and I waited 40+ minutes for our main dishes (dal + rice and the Paneer Tikka dish) to arrive....... And we watched the people who were seated AFTER us receive their MEAT dishes before we got our ours and we most definitely ordered first. We asked our server MORE THAN ONCE what was taking so long and we got the same answer each time "I've told the kitchen to hurry, it'll be out soon" To make matters worse, the person who brought us our dishes (maybe the chef? Maybe the manager?) brought them without the naan that we ordered. When I asked, "where's our naan?" He had the audacity to rudely say "it'll be out in a few minutes", as if we hadn't already been waiting 40+ minutes for vegetarian food that I could've whipped up myself in 20 minutes. His attitude towards us was so unacceptable considering the circumstances. We have absolutely no idea what happened or why it took so long for our simple dishes to arrive. It's especially perplexing considering that the people who came in AFTER us got their meat dishes first. The server apologized and decided to bring us some kulfi (ice cream) to try to make up for it, but we try to avoid eating sugar so that was useless. I felt bad for the server because it wasn't his fault that our food took a ridiculous amount of time to make it to our table, and it's not cool that a manager never stepped in to try to reconcile. As someone who waited tables for 8+ years, I was shocked at the lack of support this server received from his management team. The dal and paneer tikka dishes were average tasting at best (and overpriced), making another trip here completely unfathomable, most especially considering how we were treated. Note to management: do better. Support your staff and step in to reconcile with unhappy guests if this happens again.

I was missing nyc halal food after moving to NC…read more I searched where I can get the best halal truck food in queens. Though this was t truck food it was a great choice. I've had a lot of halal in Queens and this is hands down my new favorite spot! Not only are the workers friendly but the clientele they attract are also nice and welcoming and chatty and really live this spot as well. I ordered the chicken platter as is with extra white sauce and a side of white sauce. Yes, that sauce is amazing!! You can eat there but i took my order to go. It did not disappoint! Flavor of rice chicken and fries were awesome! Fries held up even after taking it home and being covered in takeout container. My only gripe is the chicken to rice ratio. Wayyy more rice than chicken. I would love them to be more equal so I don't have so much rice to throw out/save after. The platter was a meal enough for two! And for a great price. Definitely coming back!

I love how reliable this spot is when I need some late night halal food. They listed their business hours from 9 am to 4 am or 5 am on weekends - these are some very long business hours! My go to orders is the combo platter with chicken and lamb over rice, fries, and salad with all the sauces and their lunch special buy one get one gyro (applicable to chicken, lamb, combo, or falafel only)! The chicken and lamb meats are well seasoned and not dry at all. The platters are huge which justifies the higher price point and food is much more fresh and delicious compared to most carts in Queens. Recently, I tried the fried fish rice platter and it was delicious - fish was nicely fried and crispy, and doesn't seem greasy. I would order this again when I need a break from my combo. The platter is usually big enough for my hubs and I to share! Otherwise, it's two meals for me!
