This review is long overdue. I've been coming to K. Sushi, formerly Sushi Gallery, for over 15 years at this point. It's locally owned by a family, and I even went to middle school with the owners' kids, which makes it even more special to see how the restaurant has grown over the years. I remember when the dad made the rolls, the mom took our orders and the sons would occasionally be behind the sushi bar learning how to make sushi. Now, it feels like such a full-circle moment. Their twin sons are both sushi chefs and have continued the family tradition and recipes, while their youngest son often takes orders. They've been family-owned and operated since 2005 and recently celebrated 20 years in business. I'm genuinely so happy they're still here! Not much has changed from the menu I grew up with, aside from some recent updates, the K. Sushi rebrand and a new direction incorporating more Korean-Japanese fusion. I'm actually really happy so much has stayed the same. Why change something that isn't broken? I used to come here with my family all the time, and now I come with my boyfriend. We've been to so many sushi restaurants in Cerritos, Long Beach, Orange County, Los Angeles, Seattle, Santa Barbara and plenty of other places, and I can confidently say K. Sushi is still my FAVORITE. One of the first things I notice at any sushi restaurant is the rice. I hate when you pick up a roll and it completely falls apart. That never happens here. You can see the care and quality that goes into every order. Their rolls are packed with fish, seasonings and sauces, and every little creation feels special. My go-to will always be the Rainbow Roll and Dragon Roll. I've tried dragon rolls at so many different restaurants, but only here do I feel like they capture exactly how it's supposed to be made. The eel is warm, the sauce is delicious and everything really packs a punch in flavor. There's also so much more than rolls. They have nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, bento boxes, combos, sides and some newer fusion specialties. They recently launched a new website, ksushi.menu, where you can easily look through their menu before visiting or ordering. I recently tried their bulgogi sushi and it was SO good! It was warm, filling and reminded me a little of kimbap. I'm excited to see what else they create as they explore this new fusion direction. They also currently have a deal where every two rolls ordered come with a free salad and miso soup. Both are delicious and such a nice addition to your meal. I've ordered their party platter multiple times and think it's affordable, high quality and VERY filling. Every time I bring one to a party, potluck or event, everyone runs for the sushi. It becomes the main event! People always compliment it and say they haven't seen a sushi platter like it before. Sometimes I'm tempted to order the whole platter just for myself. The interior is cozy. There are four tables and plenty of seats at the sushi bar where you can watch your sushi being prepared. There's home made origami on the walls, a little TV playing the news and some music in the background. You're seated right away and there are menus at the table where you can write down which sushi you'd like to order. It's simple and easy. The mom still often takes our order and she is just as kind as I remember, and somehow has not aged in all these years! Everyone else who has taken care of us has also been incredibly kind and sweet. The customer service is always great. Parking is easy and free, it's never overly noisy, ordering is simple and the food comes out quickly. The prices are also great for the quality. For two people, we usually spend around $60 or less and leave very full and happy. This place is truly a hidden gem. I have so much love for this restaurant and coming here feels like home. During the pandemic, I ordered takeout and I'm so glad they survived such a difficult time for restaurants. Every time I visit, I still see plenty of takeout orders going out, which makes me happy, but definitely come in and enjoy the ambiance, watch the sushi being made and experience the great service. After 20 years, K. Sushi is still serving the same family recipes with the next generation now behind the sushi bar. I can't wait to see what comes next. I've always been curious about trying this spot since it's so close to me and I love sushi. I'm so happy that I decided to after work! I came in at 8PM and no one was there. The lady inside welcomed me warmly and gave me the perfect amount of time to ask for my order. The rolls came out pretty quickly and they were so delicious. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned where it's not too mushy/hard that you could chew on the individual grains. The fish was extremely fresh and super plump, especially in the philadelphia roll. The other roll was on their special menu, and I'm super glad I tried it. It was sweet, savory, and crunchy in a great way! This was great service, food, and quality for an extremely affordable price. K Sushi is a hidden gem. Our server Luke, was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the Special Roll Tray and the Tempura Ice Cream. The Special Roll Tray was flavorful and a great portion size for 4 people with moderate appetites. The Tempura Ice Cream was amazing. I loved the contrast between the crispy crunchy exterior and the cold ice cream inside. The pricing was fair and standard. They have korean fushion rolls on the menu. I will be coming back to try those! The restaurant is small family business tucked in a small plaza. The place was clean and comfortable. It wasn't too busy during dinner time on a Thursday. Genuinely surprised at how fresh everything was. In this unassuming corner of the plaza you'll find some really great sushi at an affordable price. Was skeptical at first because it's more of an Americanized sushi experience, and that compromises the quality at most places... but not here! Favorite pieces were the Albacore, Seared Albacore, and the Tuna (you could tell how fresh each of those pieces were omg, it was clearly different)! Also loved the salmon with the truffle and yuzu kosho, I think it elevates the flavor really well compared to the regular salmon. The signature house rolls are basically kimbap made more sushi-esque, with the rice on the outside instead of inside. Tuna with the mayo was really creamy as the name entails! And honestly better than most kimbaps I've had previously, I would order this again. What really signaled the quality to me even before the sushi got to the table was the hot green tea. I'm a big tea fanatic and knew immediately it was sencha. That's a pretty authentic blend and it tasted like it too, which I feel like most places will just give you regular American Lipton and call it a day. Love that it's a local place, the decor, and the reasonable prices. Didn't love so much how thin the fish were cut on top of the rolls. It was overwhelmed by the rice and the rest of the roll. It would have been so much better to have even a slight thicker cut so one could taste the fish. We got two rolls for takeout and was told 15-20 minutes even tho they had just opened and there were only two other tables. It came out quicker than that tho, so kudos. I have not been here in a while, although it used to be one of my favorite places. I came back here after sometime gone, and it's just like I never left. Love the service love the food and love the quiet ambience. There is some fabulous origami on the wall, framed, and the sushi chef is the one who does that origami, and it is amazing! We ate the Cerritos roll, the baked sushi, roll, and the scallop lovers roll, and they're all absolutely delicious. They're also quite a good size, so for the two of us we couldn't finish three rolls. You definitely get what you pay for, which is good size sushi rolls with yummy taste! 9.19.20 I decided to treat myself for a prebirthday meal and chose to Sushi Gallery because of the origami creations from someone's yelp review and it was a lot closer to my shop and here's my first impression. Very small indoors but enough to seat 5 ppl at the sushi bar, and perhaps 4-5 tables to seat maybe 25 ppl. It is in a plaza with numerous Korean restaurants, liquor store, and a Fantastic Cafe, too. Plenty of parking. The menu is quite simple, perhaps few rolls that most of us are familiar with; rainbow roll, California Roll, Dynamite roll, and hand rolls , sashimi and I liked that the albacore roll was the first thing mentioned. Plus they do have decent lunch menu and quite affordable from $15.99- $19.99 depending on what you like. I really don't care for shrimp but they do offer some. And if you buy 2 rolls, they give you soup and salad with your meal. It was fairly quiet, and the service was super awesome. I dropped my chopstick and the chef quickly gave me a new pair. Here I was lazy to ask for one and they noticed it right away. Love the service!! And I asked who created these beautiful origami dragons and other animal ones and Tim the owner created them all. Superb and talented!! The Albacore sushi roll was super duper good and the salmon hand-roll was awesome too. Enough food for me. Second day I craved more sushi and returned 9.21.24 at 2:25p and luckily caught them before closing till dinner menu at 5pm. I did not know that Saturday they close midday from 2:30p-5p and Tim was super cool in taking my order as long as I was taking it to go. And this time the poke bowl:) Yummy choice and had him change the fish selection to just albacore, my favorite and indeed it was my actual birthday lunch to go they gave me miso soup too. Gosh the fish is fresh and I ate that poke bowl quick!! The server remembered me and happy I returned for another sushi treat. I love smaller restaurants and Tim has had the Sushi Gallery for 18 years here at this location. Very cool it's only 7 mins from me and the 91 freeway on ramp is a block away from the plaza!!! Yay !! My mission in life is to try as many Japanese restaurants as I possibly can. The one thing I've noticed is that most Japanese restaurants tend to be similar in cuisine. Sushi styles are also very similar in the way it's made from the filling, the toppings and sauces used. The thickness of slices tend to be the same, however here at sushi gallery, the positive side is the slices are not paper thin that you can see through it. Their tempura was good. Kay had a beautiful sushi plate with miso soup Esther chose the teriyaki / California roll lunch. I picked ten soba. Wow! First the tempura was abundant and crispy with dipping sauce. The nori topped two large mounds of soba was perfectly prepared. The star of the show was the interesting daikon, wasabi, and green onions on the side to be added to the chilled soba sauce. Small mom-and-pop shop in a little plaza that's easy to miss. When we walked in, the place smelled delicious. I mean, I was ready to walk back in the kitchen and grab some food because it smelled so good. If you order 2 rolls, they let you pick a small salad or miso soup to go with it (dine-in only). We ordered 4 rolls so we tried both. I'm still not sure what the dressing on the salad was, if it was watermelon or strawberry, but it tasted like a chunky balsamic vinegrette so if you're into that the salad is good. Miso soup was also good, lots of tofu bits in there to enjoy. The service was pretty quick but that was partially because they were pretty empty the night we went in. They helped us order some stuff slightly off-menu, like we wanted seared salmon for the salmon roll so they let us do that. We also tried their sweet rice special. I really like crispy rice so I liked it. It was like a sweet rice wafer that had been baked a little bit so I liked it a lot. 4 rolls + this was more than enough for 2 people (we took food home). For last minute new years eve food, I came to find this place on yelp for a reasonably priced sushi party platter. I am glad I came here because it was really good. The platter I bought has 24 sushi roll prices and 14 nigiri. It was perfect for the 4 of us. I also bought chicken teriyaki bento for my daughter (since she refuses to eat any form of sushi....weird). I will be ordering more platters for the near future from here. read more
