A while back I saw Sushi Forest had a Carpaccio Sampler for $20, so I had to visit. It's a hidden gem on Carson and Norwalk by a tire shop. The employees were friendly and attentive during the visit. The interior was clean, organized, attractive, and illuminated. They have several lunch specials and new items that I didn't have an opportunity to explore. I ordered the Carpaccio Sampler, Red Dragon Roll, and Spicy Yellowtail Roll. Most was rich and worth getting again except Red Dragon was my least favorite because of the shrimp. Our dog groomer is located around this area and me and my mom decided to try this sushi place out. Parking is pretty small unless you park around the other side of the area in the bigger lot but not a major deal breaker. We walk in and we were greeted immediately by the server and sat down. The bento salad was overdressed and wilted, but the bulgogi had solid Korean flavors -- expected, since we heard the staff speaking Korean (a good sign). After reading about this on social media, we decided to give this place a try. We came here after a day of hanging out at Disney. Daughter and Hubs wanted sushi, so this was the place we picked. We were immediately seated after arriving.The restaurant is small and looks extremely elegant. (Daughter said she felt very underdressed for the place . LOL). The place also follows a cherry blossom theme, with wooden panels with woven-in cherry blossom branches hanging above the dining area. There is also a "mock window" as well, which is a wooden grid panel that has a picture of Japan behind it. A sushi counter is located in the back corner too and because we went during Valentine's Day season, there were small decorations propped on the counter. Alcohol bottles in wooden cubbies are mounted behind the counter as well. We ordered the following: Soft shell crab, which is deep fried soft shell crab with a small side of salad and potato. We thought that this was fried nicely. The salad on the side cut the fattiness a little bit and we enjoyed it. Salmon Lover Roll- this tasted fresh and nice. Sashimi Bravo, which is a 20 piece Chef's Choice. We were impressed with the fish. This was nice and buttery. Hubs saw escolar on the plate but we have to give credit to the staff. When we asked the server, we were told it was escolar. We don't care for escolar and were trying to order without it appearing on our plates. But, it always seems to appear on our plates. I told hubs that we should ask our server if white tuna/escolar is in the order, in the future. If you read online, escolar/white tuna is controversial. Sushi Combo, which is 8 piece Chef's Choice sushi and 8 piece California Roll. We substituted the California Roll with spicy tuna roll for an extra $3 - this too came with escolar, but overall it was good. Daughter thought the fish were real buttery and she loved the fact that they used real tree stumps for plates. Hubs liked the fact that there 's more fish than rice ratio on the roll and nigiri. Needless to say, we were very surprised and very pleased with this restaurant. It a small place and that makes it feel super homey and comforting. Spicy Garlic Edamame They gave this to us as a service and we were both very happy with it. I will admit it was a little sweet and it gave the same vibe as caramel popcorn, where it's sweet and good, however, after a while it gets old. Yellowtail Carpaccio This was the lowest ranking dish out of the entire night, but that's not to say that it's bad. I just wish there was an acidity to it, it was good but I wanted one more layer of flavor that would add maybe a lemon or fruit to it. Crispy Rice Tuna This was my girlfriend's favorite dish of the night. I liked it as well, I noticed there was a sauce to the crispy rice and the fish was really good. I only wish the rice was more crispier? I think that's just preference that I don't want too much rice chewiness for the crispy rice.
