I undid the bow before taking the photo, but it still looks beautiful.

A friend gifted me and my husband a sample assortment of mochis and jellies from K Minamoto, and we were so impressed! First of all, the packaging is absolutely stunning. Really beautiful, from the individual boxes to the gift bag. The mochis and jellies themselves lived up to the packaging. They had such an amazing consistency and such distinct flavors while looking like individual pieces of art. Really exceptional.

Beautiful store with many nice Japanese treats. It's pretty pricey though. I tried five items and I most enjoyed the chocolate dorayaki and the matcha cupcake. The cheese blueberry ball and the cheese cream cookie was not my favorite. The matcha cream cookie was ok.

Excited to find a Japanese confectionary in NYC. We got a few different things to try. None of it is quite as good as what we had in Japan, but that seems to be expected since it's brought from Japan and therefore not quite as fresh. It's all still tasty and beautiful. The staff was also very helpful and pleasant.

This store was a fun stop to make to get some refreshment during the July heat. Walking around NYC in need of AC and water, I was pleasantly surprised that this place advertised cold treats, so I walked in, purchased a refrigerated muscat grape-flavored jelly snack and a bottle of Japanese green tea, and called it a day. The summer theme was alive here, so there were lots of goldfish imagery. There are a lot of unique goods here that would make unique gifts. I would love to come back and try more different sweets.

I stopped in on a whim after walking past the store and it was such a cute shop! I tried the strawberry mochi and bought the cold mango sherbet (which were both delicious and just enough sweetness)! While the treats in here were definitely on the expensive side, it was worth it for the quality you get!

Kinkan Daifuku/金柑大福. or "A whole kumquat wrapped with sweet white bean paste and rice cake." Excellent little treat. $4.50 + tax.

Side note: Traditional expensive Japanese sweets/wagashi shop. Their wafers/senbei and mochi are the best with my preference being the matcha senbei. Also, part of this review is an edit from their old location in the 50s and further over on the east side. Anyway, I was here pretty recently getting a tiny snack prior to eating at a French spot. I used to go to their other location, albeit rarely due to the price point, having tried a bunch of their smaller snacks and also having bought a larger assortment once for a friend. I prefer this location in terms of looks, as there is a nice display in front and I found the previous place a little bit too crowded. This time I had the Kinkan Daifuku which is listed as, "a whole kumquat (small orange citrus) wrapped with sweet white bean paste and rice cake." The word kinkan refers to said kumquat and it cost $4.50 plus tax and was delicious. As per most wagashi, it was barely sweetened being on the slightly bitter end from the citrus with most of the sweetness coming from the white bean paste/shiroan. As per most of their excellent rice cakes, the texture was pillowy soft and I would recommend it being similarly flavored to their excellent mochi. Otherwise as noted prior, my preference in terms of price and flavor is their Matcha Senbei, or green tea wafers stuffed with green tea creme. These are outstanding with a wonderful mouth feel and a bitter but still pleasant aftertaste. The Sakura Senbei by comparison isn't as good with the flavor being a bit too light but it still has a good texture. Their Mochi is outstanding though tiny for the price and they have given me samples of said treat for buying things such as their mango and matcha variants (which were both excellent.) The Sakura Mochi had a nice pleasant sourness from the cherry blossom leaf and sweetness from anko/red bean with a bit of saltiness from the pickled blossom on top. Slightly more sweet is the Sakuragoromo which might be their prettiest looking treat also with anko and mochi. Rounding out the cherry blossom flavored things would be the Ohkashigure which I wouldn't recommend this much as the steamed cake didn't have as much sakura flavor by comparison and as noted, the alright sakura senbei. Also solid are their Ayashirabe, a cake either stuffed with white bean or better, a mix of white bean and matcha. Their main specialty is fruit jellies (more specifically whole fruits or parts of fruits in jelly) such as the Tosenka though I find these to be a bit too expensive and not worth it outside of their look. I'm also not the hugest fan due to texture and as the flavor is too light of their Tsyua; their version of dorayaki; a pancake with red bean inside. If you don't mind the milder flavors of Japanese treats and want to try some very fancy takes on Japanese treats, stop here. It's expensive but it's exported Japanese sweets designed as gifts so of course it's expensive. Same rating as their old spot/4.5.

K Minamoto has closed the Madison Ave. shop and has reopen the original shop on 5th Ave next to Rockefeller Center. I visit K Minamoto every few weeks to see what they got that is new, especially since some seasonal items are available only once a year like Sakuranbo - Cherry in Jelly. this shop is not cheap but they have one of a kind hard to get items. The gift boxes make a perfect gift to some who like Japanese desserts and let people know how special they are to you because you made the extra effort. And of course you need to treat yourself to a good treat sometimes don't you?

Really overpriced items. Tasty but one note. I was really excited and spent around $200 with a variety of items. They were all "not too sweet" and had the essence of what was advertised, e.g the cherry kochi has a cherry inside with a nice stem. The red bean pancake had red bean. They were nice to give as gifts but nothing was outstanding.

Prices were comparable to other shops but had a good variety of items (shirts, magnets, pins,etc.). The man working also gave us two stickers with our purchase and was kind. Definitely would recommend!

It was the same stuff everyone else was selling, but like less variety. However, I can say their prices were a lot lower than other shops. For example, I bought a pair of pink I Love NY pajama pants for $19.99 in size small. It was the last one. I needed a medium but they didn't have one. I ended up getting it for myself and figured I'd find a size medium in another souvenir shop. Well, I did but the same pair of PJ pants was $29.99! So I can confirm the prices at this store is cheaper (at least for PJ pants). I also ended up getting a lighter for my brother in law last minute and all the lighters by the register were just meh. I bought a lame one anyways. And then just as we left the store, they had all these other cooler lighters in the window on display. Too bad none of those were actually out on the shelves.

Was in the city for NYE. Yes, it's as fun as one can imagine. It's also.....well, I was messy…read moreHahahaha! Because I got back to my cousins apartment at 630am! Was quickly reminded that, TIM! YOU. ARE. NOT. 20 yrs old NO. MO!!! So that being said, I hope it's awhile before my old ass acts like that again hahah! Actually, nah! Being a dumb kid is fun! Hahahaha! So being in the city, CLEARLY I had to get my friends souvenirs! Souvenirs for my friends who arrrrre....21 and 22 years old Hahahaha! So what's the most popular souvenir no matter what (usually)? .... SHOT GLASSES! But of course-hahaha!! So I stopped in here. Word to the wise....get your shit glasses, tshirts, etc somewhere NOT located in Times Square! Why? Because you will save a ton! Did I do that tho? Nah! Why? Well because of NYE....My old ass took like 2 days to recover. So while recovering...I went absolutely nowhere lol. So the day I'm leaving, I'm running all over Times Square looking for bagels for my mom and stores to get shit glasses and keychains, magnets, and some other things. Went here and paid 2x what I would elsewhere...outside TS. Growing up in NYS and spending tons of time down in the city as a kid and as an adult... I have ALWAYS known better than to buy in TS or around there, but I was in a rush....like so many in NY lol. I legit was tho. I was more worried to find bagels than anything else. Did I get bagels? Nope. Turns out my mom would have rather had NYC crumb cake (because I told her I bought a piece every day I was there and went to bed a happy fat pig lol) and she's like "forget the bagels! There's nothing like NY crumb cake! She's absolutely right. Mental note for next time hahaha! I got my crumb cake at a deli in Queens. Not important to this review, but yeah lol This place I got the shot glasses and other things at...super cool inside. CLASSIC Times Square store. Big, flashy, busy as hell! Great store! Minus the prices you'll pay and OH! And there's an old man who works there, I'm assuming the owner....NOT a very nice man. He deals with tourists all day long..Americans and everyone else from all over the world. I get he may be burned out. That's the case tho....step aside and let a happy person run registers and the floor. Other than that, it's a great place. You definitely feel the crazy NYC vibes in there and right outside is mayhem! Step outs and look to the left and there's the TS NYE Ball, the 2020 sign. Very cool! Thanks, yelperetties! Cheers!

I had to repeat 4 times, Im just looking and had to hold on to my tshirt when he tried to take it away. I really didn't need a personal shopper to help me, I just wanted to browse. I really wanted to get a second shirt, but couldnt shop in peace.
