Came here for the Thai tea time several months ago in the Fall and had a GREAT time. This place is doing something unique, southeast asian-inspired flavors for a tea time moment and my friend and I loved it. The little treats are all vegetarian, some/most of which happen to be vegan which is amazing, because it didn't sacrifice any flavor or authenticity to be that way. The rice flour-based desserts are always my favorite, and everything was so so beautiful. They had a pumpkin flavored one too that was nice and light; nothing too sweet. The tea was nice but when thinking of tea itself I've definitely had better but definitely not bad by any means. The tea gets refills as well. I had been on the hunt for this uniquely textured Thai dessert ever since my Thai friend had me try it and was going crazy looking for something similar. Mission ACCOMPLISHED. This second floor Thai dessert cafe is located in midtown East right next to the 53rd Street Lexington Avenue train station stop and is, simply put, a DELIGHT. It is beautifully lit and decorated in gold everywhere with soothing music that brought me right back to Thailand. I explained to the woman at the register what I was looking for and she knew exactly what I was craving. I also ordered a hot matcha latte to pair with my craving. My friend and I made a reservation for the afternoon tea for 2 at 7pm on a Friday. They only have the afternoon tea from Friday-Sunday, so be aware if you are interested in this experience! The reservation time is also an hour, so it would not be the place for a long catch-up. There is a really cute space for larger parties, and then two tables on the side. A larger party had booked at the same time, so we were relegated to the less fancy tables. There's a really great review by Melody C. below that details the specific desserts that came with the tea set ($65/party of 2 or $32.50/person). When the set was served, the waitress explained each thing to us, but we did not even remember what was what directly after she explained it. We took our best guesses based on the menu. The reason for this is because the flavors are pretty repetitive. If you want to do this, make sure you like coconut, starchy flavors like pandan or taro, and mung bean. I happen to thoroughly enjoy all those flavors, but I was still expecting a bit more variety. However, the set looked beautiful, and the designs on the jellies were very pretty. For me, this is a nice experience for the gram and to eat fancy dessert with tea. My friend and I agreed that we are glad we did it, but we would not go back. Out of context, I think the price is definitely not worth it, but for a fancy evening experience in midtown, I think $32.50 is fair. I wanted to try their afternoon tea set for my birthday celebration, so I made a reservation for 7 people via email. They should make this process more efficient as it took a bit of back and forth and a couple of phone calls. My whole party was late on the day of, but the staff was very accommodating. There are two types of tea sets: $65 for a two-person set with 9 desserts each or $29 for a one-person set with 7 desserts. Since we had an uneven number, we got 3 of the two-person sets and 1 of the one-person set. Both sets were soo adorable, and the 2 desserts missing from the smaller set weren't notable. Do keep in mind that the one-person set is not presented in a tiered stand! This was my first time trying Thai-style afternoon tea, so I had no idea what to expect! I'm glad that a staff member came over to explain to us what the desserts were, though I had a bit of trouble understanding her. Golden thread - Aptly named because it looked like golden threads lumped together. It's made from egg yolks and boiled with syrup. I didn't like this at all because the egg yolk made it sort of savory but the syrup was sooo strong, so it was like artificially sweetened egg yolk if that makes sense. Cute how they added a tiny piece of gold flake in the center of basically all the desserts. 1/5 Taro Custard with Crunchy Shallots - Out of all the desserts, this one was the only one that didn't taste like a dessert but a savory treat instead. It was also my favorite. I couldn't taste the taro or shallots, but my friends said they did. This reminded me of the Century Egg Pastry commonly found in Chinese bakeries. I love that pastry, so maybe that's why I really liked this "dessert". 5/5 Sweet Sticky Rice Pudding with Longan - The name perfectly describes what it is. There was a whole piece of longan in the middle and sweet coconut sauce. I like mango sticky rice more. 3/5 Banana Bite with Sweet Coconut Sauce - Very interesting because it looked like a pan-fried meat patty and it also had quite a bite to it, unlike a regular banana. This wasn't my cup of tea. 2/5 Steamed Coconut Custard with Sweet Coconut Filling - Designed like flowers. The "petals" and the "flower center" should be eaten as a whole because the petals are salty while the center is sweet. It's easier to eat the whole thing at once anyway because it's so sticky; you really can't break it up with a spoon. 4/5 Mung Bean Cake - Molded as little fruits. They looked the cutest, and the glaze gave it a plastic shine! It came in a little basket for the single-person tea set. The outer layer was a thick "skin" of jelly, which reminded me of the viral grape candy in Japan where you can "peel" off the "skin". Inside was mung bean paste. 4/5 Tapioca Pudding with Coconut Cream - It's exactly what it sounds like! It's like green tapioca with some pieces of corn and topped with coconut cream. I don't usually eat tapioca or corn, so this didn't rock my boat. 3/5 Forget to Swallow (Leung Kluen) - Designed like flowers. The staff member said it's named "Forget to Swallow" because it's so delicious that customers forget to swallow, haha! I learned from a quick Google search that the dessert is made of mung bean flour and sugar and topped with a salted, fluffy coconut cream. It mainly tasted like a super smooth jello to me. This was my second favorite. 5/5 Steamed Pumpkin Cake - Molded into a flower shape! This was probably the biggest dessert in the tea set but most of the group agreed that this was one of their least favorites. Although the tower looks like it's filled with desserts, it's mostly just plastic flowers & leaves :(. the actual desserts were SO tiny and redundant. I think we had a total of 3-4 different types of desserts, all sweet besides one. the savory one was a tiny tiny meatball on a small orange block + a chili piece on top. we were all confused what this was, maybe we are just uncultured. i can confidently say i've had MUCH better thai dessert (not in nyc) so this was quite disappointing. A brand new Thai dessert place in one of the busiest streets of midtown east. Just upstairs from the co-owned Thai restaurant Little Thai Kitchen, Sarisa impresses with vibrant plantlife, glass panes to display every variety of dessert, and wood paneling in an immaculately clean space. As of this review, there is always a good amount of seating on weekdays. Unfortunately, afternoon tea dessert sets are only available on weekends, and RSVPs for those weekend spots are filled out several weeks in advance. There is currently no way to RSVP on the webiste; they must be DMed via FB or instagram and there is no guarantee of a response, perhaps due to understaffing. However, the in-person service there is fantastic. While I was disappointed on a weekday evening about not being able to get the afternoon tea, I was able to sample a few items: 1. Coconut milk jelly (2/5) - Really cute as an art piece, but otherwise fell flat in terms of taste; each piece was a homogenous blend of coconut milk. 2. Thai Coconut Pancake (5/5) - I didn't know that a warm coconut munchkin could have so much savoriness and bite; I could have had two orders of these on their own. Amazing crunch on the outside and chew from coconut flakes on the interior. 3. Three Musketeers/Bua Loy (4/5) - A warm dessert soup consisting of coconut milk and juice complimented by balls of pandan, taro, and pumpkin. It wasn't too sweet and was a nice palette cleanser.
