K Kitchen sign and (no line!) in the French Market
    Garrett O.

Great find in the French Market if you're nearby Accenture Towers or navigating through the train station. Plenty of seating throughout the market, speedy service, and diverse music playlist! K Kitchen has a very lean operation (only two team members working during lunch rush), but they were able to manage overall. They have a neat point of sale system that simplified the ordering and payment process (may not be an attraction for all though). Food quality and portion sizes were great for lunch. As many suggested on Yelp, I tried the spicy pork bowl (~$15). It wasn't actually spicy, so I think that you should make sure to snag some sauce on the side if that's what you're looking for!

Cool that you can get Korean food in Ogilvie Transportation Center but not that good enough to pay so much for it. It's just one of the many options in the French Market. K-Kitchen is pretty average and overpriced. Get similar and better elsewhere. The food isn't close to being authentic but it's as authentic as you can get here. A lot better options for Korean are around the city but not in this area. It sucks the closest is this and often it may be closed. This operates about the same time as the market. It's about $12 for a bowl. Vegetarians can get the Tofu Bowl, and choose how much to make it spicy. It's pretty basic. Looks like rice topped with premade sauce and vegetables. Okay but the price is too much. This isn't anything worth the high prices. Get something better when you're looking around here. It's high prices at all the vendors but at least the food is better than this. The good thing about it is there's choices for vegans and vegetarians.

a tray of rice, lettuce, and beef

If you love Korean food and have no other options, this place is decent. Service is great and there's plenty of seating. However, the bulgogi platter was just okay in terms of flavor. The ratio of lettuce wraps and sauce to meat and rice was WAY off.

Bulgogi w veges and rice - yummy! Only $13.65
    karina k.

This is inside French Market with other vendors. The $13.65 bulgogi w veges and rice was very good. The beef was flavored well w the traditional Korean ingredients and there was a lot of thin sliced meat w that was high quality and not much fat. The sweet potato fries Korean style were really good and reminded me of childhood when they used to make these more and you can sometimes get the honey glazed sweet potato chips w black sesame seeds at Hmart but it's not easy to find. So this was a great experience down memory lane. But the price was a bit steep at $7.45 plus tax so as much as I appreciate small businesses and want to support them, I don't feel good about buying the fries again bc it's such a big chunk of change for a side dish as much as I love it. Nevertheless they deserve all the 5 stars for originality and high quality clean food and generous good quality beef for the bulgogi dish and fries. Try their dishes! You won't be disappointed.

K-Kitchen replaced Bowl Square's booth here. The good thing is they still offer the spicy tofu soup in addition of more Pan Asian choices. I got a carry out of Spicy tofu soup. Sadly the broth was not red anymore. It is more close to orange which basically means it is not spicy enough for me. The broth was still tasty and the tofu was silky. The rice, however, was going to the direction I don't like. The rice was dryer and harder than what I used to get. Even after I soaked them in the soup for a while, it was still hard to chew. Not sure if it was the lower grade of rice or just didn't cook right. I was a bit disappointed to see my Korean soup got replaced. Maybe I should try the Ramen noodle soup or the Bulgulgi next time. Please let me know if anyone has found a nice Korean restaurant around west loop.

I get random cravings for soondubu (hot Korean tofu soup) and this is my go-to place in downtown. The soondubu here is about $10 and it's pretty filling. They prepare the food pretty fast. It is usually ready in about 5-7 minutes. This is one of my favorite vendors in the French market.

    Spicy garlic pork
    Chris M.

Ordered the spicy garlic pork and it was delish! I could've done without the veggies, but I guess that makes it healthy, right? The meat isn't spicy but still wonderfully flavorful and the rice is on point. Some of the pieces are pretty big, so I recommend using more than a single spoon like I did (as it resulted in me looking like a fool struggling to bite off a smaller piece of the meat). The portion is more than satisfactory; I was pretty stuffed afterwards. If you're in a rush, this place seems to be pretty busy at lunch so don't expect to get your food within 5 minutes.

Then I saw the KBBQ menu and all bets were off. I immediately pivoted and ordered the chef's tasting set, the Diweji, featuring pork jowl, pork collar, and pork belly, complete with an assortment of banchan. Zero regrets. And here's the part that should tell you everything you need to know: I am a certified radish hater. I avoid it whenever possible. Yet somehow, I found myself repeatedly reaching for the radish banchan and asking for more. Even the soup - which also featured radish - was absolutely delicious. If Perilla can convert someone who actively dislikes radish into a fan for one meal, that's saying something. The soju was exactly what I wanted with Korean barbecue: crisp, clean, and refreshing. I appreciate that it was neutral rather than overly sweet. The flavored, sweeter versions aren't really my thing unless the food is setting my mouth on fire. Speaking of spice, the wings were good: juicy, well-executed, and satisfying but I kept wishing they packed a little more heat. They weren't spicy at all, and a bigger kick would have taken them from very good to unforgettable. As for the meats, the pork jowl was gloriously rich and fatty, exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The pork collar ended up being my favorite: flavorful, tender, and with just the right balance of meat and fat. The pork belly was comforting and familiar - the classic KBBQ staple done well, with beautifully rendered edges and that indulgent quality that makes it a crowd-pleaser for a reason. The set also came with potatoes that were unexpectedly delicious. My only complaint? It was far too much food for one person. The service deserves its own mention. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The entire meal was delivered with efficiency and a smile, making a solo diner feel completely comfortable lingering and enjoying the experience. What I thought would be a quick happy hour stop turned into one of my favorite meals.

We ordered a seafood soup, seafood pancake, and a salmon crunch roll. We quickly realized that this was an atypical Korean restaurant experience as we did not receive banchan and there were not many traditional options on the menu. I think that should've been our cue to go, but we stayed and were very disappointed. The service was extremely slow. We had to ask multiple times when it was coming, and when the food finally came out, it was underseasoned and the texture was very off. The seafood pancake tasted deep fried and had chunks of imitation crab. It had the texture of an unrisen focaccia. The soup was tasteless, and the salmon roll was drenched in mayo and eel sauce. They also gave us a "special" hot sauce that tasted like just a mix of sriracha and Tabasco. Small highlights: the ambiance was nice; it seemed clean. Waiter was nice enough. I hate giving bad reviews, but this was quite a shocking meal.

We both got the soup, but you need to add salt and pepper to the soup to make it to your liking. The service was great; it's run by an older Korean lady that seems so sweet when she comes to take your order and makes sure you enjoyed everything. Strike 1: We had an 8:00PM reservation for six, checked in at 7:50, and weren't seated until 8:20--despite plenty of open tables. Then we waited another 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Strike 2: We understood service might be slower with a large party nearby, but nonexistent is more accurate. Our server was taking shots with that table while we waited 20+ minutes for water. At the end of the meal, the same server had the nerve to ask us for a positive review in exchange for free meat. Suddenly, the good reviews for this place make a lot more sense. Strike 3: Management was somehow even worse. I asked to speak with a manager and had two different people come over claiming to be one. One was the second server taking shots with the large party--and was visibly intoxicated and slurring his words while handling a table with scissors and open flames. When I called it out, his response was, "I only did one shot." That's not an excuse; it's a liability. The "real" manager was at least pleasant, but ultimately could only remove the automatic gratuity. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Between the ridiculous wait times, nonexistent service, employees drinking on the job, and complete lack of accountability from management, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. And for a birthday dinner, it was especially unacceptable.

Everyone was absolutely fantastic. We could have been served 7-11 sushi at this point and I still would have left 5 stars. Food time. The kimchi pork dumplings were an absolute flavor bomb and that parmesan broth gave the dumplings a little extra kick that took it to the next level. Plus, I love when the dumpling wrapper has a little chew to it and isn't this soft mush that dissolves in your mouth. The beef fat frites were a nice treat as well. The Premium Steakhouse Set, in my opinion, is all two people need to enjoy this very special experience.
