My friend and I were craving warm comfort food and drove out to check out this spot. Han Bat is a super hole-in-the-wall, authentic Korean restaurant! They really only have one thing on the menu which is their sullungtang, but you can choose what type of meat you'd like. I went with the flank, while my friend got brisket. The sullungtang was solid. I liked that they gave a lot of meat in the serving, but it could have come with more broth and glass noodles. The kimchi that it came with was good, but the meal overall felt a little expensive for what you were getting. Service is really only run by one lady who is quick and efficient. They are cash only, but there is also an ATM inside the store in case you don't have any! Anyways, this place definitely hit the spot--not the best sullungtang in the world necessarily, but it does the job.

My number one go-to restaurant whenever I'm in town. This is a mom-and-pop Korean restaurant that is super authentic. It's literally run by an old couple with no other servers. They serve pretty much one thing which is the Sullungtang (beef bone soup) with different types of beef like flank, brisket, ox tail... The quality is so good, it's definitely on the same level with the famous Sullungtang in Ktown LA. They only take cash but the there is an ATM inside the store with no fee so it's convenient. Service could be a little slow because they don't have a server but normally this place is not that busy anw. They have plenty of parking outside so no need to find parking. I highly recommend you checking it out.

Simple and delicious. Cash only. No frills, Korean restaurant focused on beef soup. Broth is light, clean and flavorful. Salt and green onion is provided so you can season to your liking. I was supposed to when I pulled into the awkwardly shaped parking lot to meet my friends over a meal. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived for an early dinner, but a fair number of solo diners or pairs came in by the time we left. Lovely staff. The establishment clearly understands their specialty and sticks to it. I placed a to-go order before we finished because I knew my husband would enjoy the soup as well.

Such a hearty bowl of soup with the best service!! The auntie there is so kind and kept refilling our kimchi. You order a bone broth soup, which can come with a variety of meats. It comes unsalted, so there's salt for you to add to your liking on the table. Your meal also comes with kimchi radish, kimchi, scallions, and rice! I got the beef brisket soup, which was so warm and comforting! It comes with glass noodles, which adds a fun texture to the soup. They could've been a bit more generous with the meat, but the quality was still there. Lots of four top tables with a few longer tables for big groups! The food comes out super quickly too!

This restaurant specializes in simple korean soups. I loved coming here on a colder day. I got the brisket beef soup, and it warmed me right up. There was a good amount of meat and noodles. You season the soup with salt provided on the table to your own liking. You can add your own green onion topping as well. The menu is very straightforward, and the place has a homey, no-fuss feel. The woman serving us was friendly. Service was fast. I would come here again.

Truly a hidden gem, Han bat restaurant is totally worth it. If you have never had Korean soups this is the place you should start your adventure with. Both the Kimchi's are the best you will find and have. The chef / owner makes it and is unbelievable. It reminded me of a time when I was in Korea and had kimchi that was similar.

This is my new favorite Korean restaurant in Chicago :) my taste buds have preferred lighter tastes recently, and this place fits that preference exceptionally. I usually don't prefer ox bone soup, but I would get it here in a heartbeat. The kimchi sides pair perfectly with the rich, creamy soup. Be aware that this place accepts cash only, but there's a fee-free ATM in the restaurant. Would highly recommend!!

Ambiance: the storefront is very unassuming and may be hard to find at first, as it's tucked away. The restaurant looks a little run down and hasn't seen a renovation, but the food speaks for itself here. The menu is old school and written on the walls. I think mostly everything is under 15$ which is a pretty great deal considering his long it takes to make the bone broth and how filling it is. Food: the restaurant specializes in Korean beef bone broth soup. The entrees have different types of bone broth and meat choices and is a classic Korean dish. I generally tend to get the brisket since it's a nice balance of hearty soup and thin slices of brisket meat. Other soup options include tripe and tendons, if you're more into different textures. The broth is rich and comes unseasoned; you add enough salt, pepper and green onions to your liking. Obviously pour some kimchi/kimchi juices into the soup for true Korean style taste. Service: no frills. Don't expect 5 star service. You'll get your food and refills when asked, but honestly don't need more than that anyways. The owners are a nice elderly couple and you get a real mom and pop shop vibe here with a little taste of home.

This style of restaurant and the food they serve isn't for everyone but once you're hooked on it, you'll be craving their soups every so often and you'll be a repeat customer for life. I first tried this style of Korean soup in LA several years ago so I'm glad to have found one very similar in Chicago. It's the very definition of simple comfort food and I don't think any place will make soup better than here for miles around. The restaurant is kept clean and very casual. One lady, who I think is the owner, was our server and cashier. She prepped the scallions on another dining table while we were eating- typical of many Asian restaurants. They have a short menu on the wall and there's only a few choices, basically each soup consists of different parts of the cow. We went with one brisket and one flank. Service is super fast since all the soups are just steaming away in their kitchen. The soups are served in hot clay pots and come with some glass noodles. You must season to taste- salt, pepper, and scallions are provided. They bring out a complimentary bowl of rice, kimchi cabbage and radish. I like to season my with salt and scallions, and then dump the rice in the soup and eat everything with a spoon. The soup goes perfectly with the kimchi and radish. One bowl is more than enough for me- I'm absolutely stuffed by the end of my meal and everything comes out to be around $15 cash per person.

Han Bat has been a savior during these cold and dreary days. Soup always warms the soul and if we lived closer, we would be most certainly be frequent visitors. The interior/exterior is very unassuming with a small parking lot right out front. Without knowing Korean we had a little bit of trouble knowing what to order, so thank goodness for Yelp photos! We ordered the combination Soo Yook and the Beef Soup with brisket, flank, tripe, honey comb, and spleen. The Soo Yook comes out in a large flat cast iron pan with the beat in a blanket of soup. The boiled brisket and tongue were thinly slices and nicely tender. The soup was refreshing for sure. The beef soup had the some compliments and paired with green onions and glass noodles. I feel like each sip I take is bringing me back to life. The traditional side dishes are not to be forgotten either - the kimchi was delicious!

Its been on my list of places to visit for some years, but never had the time to visit. I started my journey at 5am from KY and made it to Chicago around 9am, did some shopping at the Korean market and stopped in for late breakfast. There was nobody here when I came in, I ordered the brisket sullungtang. The napa and the radish kimchi came out and then about five minutes later the soup. The soup was good, you can tell that they boiled the bones for long time. It looked creamy! It came with meat and glass noodles. I was not a fan of the kimchi, it hasn't fermented, too fresh and it shouldn't been served. The radish kimchi saved the day, it was good and went very well with the soup.

Then I saw the KBBQ menu and all bets were off. I immediately pivoted and ordered the chef's tasting set, the Diweji, featuring pork jowl, pork collar, and pork belly, complete with an assortment of banchan. Zero regrets. And here's the part that should tell you everything you need to know: I am a certified radish hater. I avoid it whenever possible. Yet somehow, I found myself repeatedly reaching for the radish banchan and asking for more. Even the soup - which also featured radish - was absolutely delicious. If Perilla can convert someone who actively dislikes radish into a fan for one meal, that's saying something. The soju was exactly what I wanted with Korean barbecue: crisp, clean, and refreshing. I appreciate that it was neutral rather than overly sweet. The flavored, sweeter versions aren't really my thing unless the food is setting my mouth on fire. Speaking of spice, the wings were good: juicy, well-executed, and satisfying but I kept wishing they packed a little more heat. They weren't spicy at all, and a bigger kick would have taken them from very good to unforgettable. As for the meats, the pork jowl was gloriously rich and fatty, exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The pork collar ended up being my favorite: flavorful, tender, and with just the right balance of meat and fat. The pork belly was comforting and familiar - the classic KBBQ staple done well, with beautifully rendered edges and that indulgent quality that makes it a crowd-pleaser for a reason. The set also came with potatoes that were unexpectedly delicious. My only complaint? It was far too much food for one person. The service deserves its own mention. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The entire meal was delivered with efficiency and a smile, making a solo diner feel completely comfortable lingering and enjoying the experience. What I thought would be a quick happy hour stop turned into one of my favorite meals.

Perilla is a tastefully decorated restaurant, both loungey and rich, but still makes you feel like the joint is all for you. You know, 5 star service is such a lost art, it makes you forget how much you miss it when all of a sudden it happens to be right in front of you. Ricardo, our bartender, what a gem. Forget about the perfectly made drinks that were served to us. Ricardo made us feel right at home with his kind disposition and friendly demeanor. But it doesn't just stop at Ricardo. Everyone was absolutely fantastic. We could have been served 7-11 sushi at this point and I still would have left 5 stars. Food time. The kimchi pork dumplings were an absolute flavor bomb and that parmesan broth gave the dumplings a little extra kick that took it to the next level. Plus, I love when the dumpling wrapper has a little chew to it and isn't this soft mush that dissolves in your mouth. The beef fat frites were a nice treat as well. They were not extra or over the top in anyway. But you can tell when something is done well and correctly, just like these fries were. The Premium Steakhouse Set, in my opinion, is all two people need to enjoy this very special experience. All the accompanying condiments were exceptional on their own and could have functioned as their own course. The Japchae glass noodles were a stunner. The real sleeper was the chopped lettuce greens tossed in their chili vinaigrette. Could have eaten 20 bowls of those lettuce greens. Sadly, I forgot the name of our server who cooked and cut our meat for us. She really added to the experience. She expertly prepared our food while maintaining a fun and pleasant conversation with us. The meat itself, my goodness, tender, smoky, quality-forward, and perfect served with the condiments. I explained further if there is a cancellation would love to be notified and she wrote my name down. I went back to the lobby, looked on OpenTable and I saw multiple reservations. I went back to the hostess showing the 8:15 resy I got and she said it wasn't accurate and if someone booked it and came they would refuse them (what???!! There's a cancellation fee as well). I asked about the 8:45 and her coworker said that IS available. I was confused, because a minute ago she said they were fully commited. Which I said back, she said there is actually an 8:45 (okay so you lied). I asked if we could put our name down for that and did. After that extremely strange interaction, which I was not used to after eating at many higher end restaurants we sat down at 8:45. We ended up getting a mix of small plates. The waiter was clearly trying to sell us their expensive courses for his tip though he was very sweet... which he may not have realized we had an expense budget for work and we were trying not pass that. He emphasized the small plates were small and not enough food which we fell for and got more and had way too much food and passed our expense budget due to it. The food is great, it's the service that has work to do especially for such a high price tag. Get the chicken for sure. Dumplings you can pass on. The broccolini (not pictured) is great as well. Amazing sauce. As the food is good I would not come here again due to the service as their are other restaurants that are more buttoned up than this.

It's a more relaxed concept than the OG, serving Korean inspired bar food and inventive cocktails. While I liked the original Parachute, I am obsessed with Parachute HiFi. I was also in love with the tapioca fritters with pepper jelly. The texture of the tapioca fritter was so unique and fun, and the pepper jelly was seriously out of this world. Bottle that stuff up and sell it! Whoever said the ttebokki pad Thai didn't taste like pad thai was wrong - it does and was a satisfying dish that I'd order again! They said it's basically a Korean restaurant with not much Korean food on the menu, but is really good. That immediately sparked my curiosity. I said let's go, it sounds interesting. We all met at 8:00 at Parachute that sorta, kinda sometimes takes reservations; and we did not have one. Not to fear, as the greeter-seater got us three stools at the bar, which by the way, were the best seats in the house. Parachutes menu was all over the place but my son particularly pointed out their hamburger, and I (then) knew why: Living in Los Angeles for a k-billion years, my favorite hamburger was at a restaurant called My Father's Office, owned by Sang Yoon, a Korean chef. His off-beat burgers were sensational! The burger here at Parachute were equally off-beat, so I immediately ordered it. Damn, was it delicious! There were so many things going on here that my head was buzzing, trying to put all these flavors together? And yes, their burger rivaled Chef Yoons burger in L.A.! The burger came cut in two with each side resting in mayo and BBQ sauce. Wow, was it bizarre, offbeat, unique, atypical and the adjectives keep on going; but the adverb used on the burger was - MESSY, and I loved it. I didn't need napkins to stay clean, I needed a beach towel. The fries I ordered were fantastic along with their banana based ketchup which again was strangely weird but excellent. My OB Korean beer paired perfectly with my "Perfect Storm" hamburger. My son and his fiancee went with a salad and Pad Thai Noodles with shrimp which was equally as delicious as my meal. Parachute Hi Fi was definitely an anomaly that I enjoyed very (very) much. And, yes, I'll be back!
