The moment we stepped in I felt we were transported to an underground speakeasy. What I really love is the two level dining area, and how dark the lighting is in here. Love me some low lighting! We came here for after dinner drinks, so unfortunately I can't comment on the food. Although, it looked and smelled so good. The cocktail menu has an array of very unique cocktails, with a few that are saki infused. Their cocktails are mainly batched because of how busy they are, so modifications likely cannot be made, which was the only downside.

I was out here for a work convention and one of my coworkers suggested to come here and they had reservations available for a big group. This is definitely and upscale dinning experience in Chicago. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They suggested a few things to us to order. We have multiple cuts of meat that were prepped by a cook at a perfect temperature. He cut them perfectly for each one of us to try every single cut. We ordered a rice bowl that was delicious! It does contain pork even though it doesn't clearly say it. Some coworkers ordered tea that came in a unique presentation. The dessert was delicious! Super light, a small portion and just perfect to wrap the meal. I would definitely visit one of these locations again and it is more for special occasions and a more upscale experience.

Perilla has incredible staff that goes above and beyond, beautiful interior design, an excellent vibe, and most importantly stellar food. I recommend this place for any special occasion or celebration. I was absolutely blown away by the Korean fried chicken wings and shishito peppers.

One of my all-time favorite meals, an experience and food I won't forget. An elevated Korean bbq experience - the perfect unique twist. The inside has a few small rooms and a patio, more space than it seems but feels more intimate that way. Tried: shishito peppers, kimchi fried rice, chef's tasting plate, banchan Loved: All the food and service was spectacular. The chef's tasting plate was perfect for two of us to split, with the Wagyu being a highlight - the most tender meat I've ever had. Just amazing. The tallow for the grill added flavor to the bbq beyond normal butter and the sauces and banchan were great. The kimchi fried rice with bacon was served in a hot bowl and really kept it warm as we ate it with our bbq. The service was amazing - everyone was constantly checking on us and giving great recommendations. Onyx did an amazing job serving us as well as the rest of the staff!

Perilla is my go-to takeout spot for when I need something to eat for dinner. I love the fire chicken Korean meal plate. The chicken is spicy and tender, balanced well with the side salad and kimchi. I usually choose the pork dumplings and they are always crispy. I've ordered the tteokbokki rice cakes and the kimchi jigae in the past but noticed that the portion size of the soup keeps getting smaller. The ambiance of the restaurant is very chic and the hostess is always courtesy and quick with grabbing my order.

Impromptu friday night dinner where we managed to snag two lounge seats by calling ahead! We ordered: - gochujang pork ribs (a little pricey but so tender, great kick of spice, 9.5/10) - kimchi fried rice (solid portion size, paired well with the meat, 9/10) - stone bowl bibimbop w chicken (really liked the variety of veggies, 9.5/10) - la galbi (a little bit chewy but great marinade and we loved the mushrooms, 8.5/10) - complimentary kimchi (like 6 different kinds!! 100/10) - ice cream sundae dessert (crispy rice puffs, salty caramel, light cake base, incredible 10/10) Service was fantastic, we were always well taken care of even though they were very busy and we were in a little nook. The lounge area can be a little loud with music and a larger group seating area -- we didn't mind but wanted to note for others. Also happened to run into Thomas who was incredibly kind and welcoming, generously gifted us the yummiest dessert. Need to come back to try the wagyu on the main kbbq menu!

3.5/5 The food at perilla is excellent- specifically the banchan (eggplant!!!!) and the protein (wagyu). However portion size is relatively small. The banchan is replenished without charge which is lovely. They have a separate GF menu with 5 appetizers, 4 proteins, and sizes.

The ambiance of this place is amazing. The food was expensive but delicious. There was a little mix up with our food order but we ended up getting everything.

If you're interested in elevating your Korean bbq experience, this is a spot to try. Please note the portions are much smaller and everything is paid a la cart unlike the normal korean bbq where it comes with large portions, rice, side dishes, vegetables, sauces, and soup. That's why I call it more elevated! As appetizers, we had the scallion pancake and korean fried chicken. Both were very good with the korean rice wine we ordered. Meats and seafood can be chosen a la cart or with a choice of tiered tasting menus. We got the pork belly tasting menu and a premium tier with beef along with some seafood items a la cart. I recommend the premium beef tasting, which I thought the portions were enough only for 1 person, but i think it was supposed to be for 2. We had to pay extra to get the lettuce and sauce. Extra cost for side dishes, which you only get 4 small plates with no refills. The food was pretty decent and service was okay.

Just an absolutely striking dining room. Professional attentive and knowledgeable service. We started with a bulgogi and rice cake dish that had a great combination of flavors and textures. The waitress guided us to a great selection of beef and we added on some scallops and shrimp. The banchan set thoughtfully assembled with more great flavors and textures. Really nice bourbon cocktail.

FLAVOR (4/5): They have some really high quality meats here! The stone pot rich had crispy rice bottoms which is always the best part. The shishito peppers were also a nice touch, very juicy and flavorful. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (4/5): The restaurant on the outside looks long and skinny and the inside does reflect a smaller intimate space! They have a tasting for their meats which makes it feel more elevated compared to your normal KBBQ. SERVICE (4/5): Our server had a lot of good recommendations but service is a bit slow here. We had to flag them down in order to catch our transit out of there on time. One of our cups had a chip in them so check your items to not get cut! TAKEAWAYS: In my opinion good quality but too expensive for the amount of food you get. It really bothered me that in traditional Korean restaurants the side dishes like kimchi and radish come for free with refills but here you need to pay a hefty fee for them.

I'll start by saying there are two locations now, so make sure you make your reservations at the correct one. Fortunately, it wasn't busy so they were able to change our reservations location. Needless to say service was and has been fast and excellent everytime I have visited. The meal comes with the bean Sprout Soup which is actually very flavorful and a nice way to wake up the pallete. (5/5) The blistered shishito peppers have crushed nuts and dried anchovies on them for flavor. It's a very unique dish, but it does get boring to eat as the flavor only seems pleasant for the first few bites. (2/5) Kimchi Croquette Delicious for what it is, but it loses alot of the strong kimchi flavor. If it wasn't in the name I wouldn't have known there was kimchi in it. Still delicious though. (4/5) Bulgogi Marinated beef with rice cakes and veggies. This is arguably my favorite simple korean dish and this execution was noteworthy. It's similar to others I have had but with a nice char flavor on the meat. (5/5) We ordered the middle ranged steak platters and the selection for price seems to be the best value. Meat quality was great but it is a very expensive dinner. If you want to order the sample platters choose this one for the most meat for your dollar. Overall, excellent food and service, but the price definitely means it's not for everyday consumption.

A few dishes, like the Duck Fried Rice, Pork Belly, and Beef Noodle Soup, were actually pretty solid. But the rest of the night was just so frustrating that I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The Jiaozi were the first big letdown. The menu said they were beef short rib and bone marrow, but they didn't taste like that at all. The filling was just super mushy and the flavor was just weird. The manager and the food runner were nice when we mentioned it, but our actual server was a disaster. When we tried the Goat Noodles, all we could taste was cumin. It was so overwhelming that it covered up everything else. We couldn't even tell if there was actually any goat shoulder in there. When we told our waiter, she couldn't care less. She got totally defensive, wouldn't even listen to us, and just said, "Oh, I told you when you ordered that the dish is cumin forward" and walked away. It got worse when the bill came. She was holding on to the payment machine so hard and almost yanked it right out of my friend's hand. She was staring at it to see what we were tipping. It was so awkward and incredibly rude. No thank you, no nothing. She just grabbed it and left. The place has potential, but they really need to fix the food and retrain the staff. A cool vibe doesn't make up for bad food and awful service.

The evening started off wonderfully. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the food absolutely delivered. The Wagyu Crispy Rice remains a 10/10 and is worth ordering every single time. We also shared the fried chicken and pork belly bao buns, which my husband and our friends couldn't stop talking about. Everyone loved their meals, and we left completely stuffed. Unfortunately, one interaction put a damper on an otherwise great dinner. My husband has had a white fish allergy for 32 years. He can safely eat certain fish like tuna, salmon, and trout, so he usually has limited sushi options but still enjoys it. He ordered what appeared to be a safe roll, but after the first bite realized it contained masago. We asked what type of fish their masago comes from, and the server confirmed it was from a white fish. Thankfully, he noticed immediately and didn't have a reaction. The server did offer to have the roll remade, which we appreciated. However, before doing so, she repeatedly told us that she and the chef "think all fish are white," implying that his allergy didn't really make sense. Hearing that several times felt dismissive of a very real allergy he's managed his entire life. Food allergies aren't something anyone should have to defend while dining out. To end the meal, they kindly brought out The Ridiculous dessert and the coconut cheesecake for my husband's birthday, and both were delicious. However, the moment was a bit overshadowed when the server mentioned, "We normally don't give these as birthday desserts, but because of what happened, we did." While I'm sure it wasn't intended that way, it came across as passive-aggressive rather than hospitable. Overall, the food was outstanding and absolutely lives up to Sunda's reputation. I'd happily return for the Wagyu Crispy Rice and everything else we tried. My only criticism is that a little more sensitivity and understanding around food allergies--and a bit more tact in how situations are communicated--would have made an excellent dining experience truly exceptional.

The restaurant wasn't busy at 7pm on Sunday. We ordered a few drinks, a few different dishes, and an entry from the kids' menu. We quickly received our drinks, which were delicious and exciting. A balanced drink containing tamarind? Come on! We then got our first dish, the Wagyu crispy rice. Amazing. Delicious. Then our sushi came out. Also great! Then Adobe fried rice with pork belly. Super satisfying! But then... a total stall. We hadn't yet received our edamame or our chicken entree. Our server asked if we wanted the check. At that point, our food had time to sit and no one was hungry. So our server asked if we were ready for the check. Sure. Our check arrived at the same time our chicken dish showed up. And still no edamame, which was an appetizer. We were also given another table's bill, which was totally different than ours and showed a credit for something and a zero balance. It was fixed, and we ended up paying our $50ish per person with the only adjustment being that we didn't pay for the edamame we never received. Obvious disconnect between the kitchen and service. But the food we did receive was exceptional. Drinks were novel and playful. But forgetting food and a weird service pace really diminished the overall elegance of Sunda. I feel like we drastically overpaid for the dining experience. We are on a family vacation, so instead of memories of a great meal we instead have a story of that messed up service and the weirdness that surrounded.

The vibe is speakeasy-ish; the entrance is off the street in an alleyway but the interior is very nice, low light, and would be fun for a date night! The staff were attentive and very friendly. My friend got some shots, which were surprisingly good given they were kind of sweet, and I ordered the "mystic lamp" cocktail ($16) which was VERY memorable to me as someone that loves floral drinks -- it was very floral, slightly fruity, and had a lovely chunk of lychee it came with which was delicious! The drink was decent sized too; I've been charged a lot more for much less drink at other speakeasies (those of which I don't plan to visit again any time soon haha). In my opinion, this spot has the perfect combo of great drinks, nice ambiance, cool speakeasy-vibes, but also cheerfulness given the tiki-theme inside. Would definitely rec a visit to anyone visiting Chicago who likes cool bars!

After you negotiate the alley entrance and go down dangerously dark stairs, you are met with crazy boring decor. I kept thinking there had to be more right? The whole point of a tiki bar is to strike a mood, but hanging a very few polynesian masks on the wall, putting up a grass facade over the bar and dressing the servers in vaguely polynesian outfits is sad. I've seen private tiki bars at people's homes that are more exciting. Add to this a comparably boring music selection played far too loud over boomy lo-fi speakers and you'll wonder what's going on here. So what about the food and drink? Completely uninspired for anyone who's had more than a mai tai before in their life. About a dozen extremely common drink choices is all you get!! No specials, that's it. When I asked if this was the whole cocktail menu, the server said it was but they have a full bar so you can get anything you want. Well, I could get that service at just about any bar in the world, so big deal. Maybe it would be better if you sat at the bar and chatted up the bartender. One could also go taste their rum selections and other cocktails in the Bamboo Room, but I hate that kind of elitist nonsense. That's never been what tiki bars were about. The drinks we sampled were okay at best. Even the namesake 3 Dots and A Dash cocktail was lackluster and used cheap cherries for the dots instead of classic Luxardos. (If you know, you know) The appetizers were okay, but way overpriced. 5 tiny spring rolls for $18. Come on guys, enough already. I'd rather go to the bar at the Polynesian Hotel at Disney than return here. This place is a hard pass.

Found Momotaro through Bilt. Reservations were easy to make online. Moody Japanese, mid century…read moremodern design inside. Great spot for date night. It was packed inside! I got the chamomile tea, miso soup, Broccoli Goma-ae, and a few orders of nigiri. If you want freshly made-to-order, I would avoid the rolls as I saw them make a bunch ahead of time on trays. For dessert I got the Satsumaimo Taruto. All of the dishes were yummy! Portions were just right. Service was attentive and professional. In terms of quality, I can't say it's the absolute best sushi I've had, but it's still good and it's on par with the price and ambiance. Solid dinner spot. I would come back again!

I also really like the Sakegria cocktail! We really liked starting off with the spaghetti. A little spicy but nothing too crazy and really creamy. We were a bit underwhelmed with the Kamo to Momo. You really needed to mop up the sauce in order to get the flavor. Our favorite sushi was the Momomaki for sure. We also really liked the Shio Koji Sake but the avocado is definitely the prominent taste. The Kami Jomaki was decent but definitely a lot of competing flavors with some overpowering mint. We also really enjoyed the unagi which was really saucy and bbq-y. The otoro was super smooth and tasty and I'm glad we got it without rice becuase it wasn't needed!
