If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. And I haven't even been there! Why not? And why do I think the place warrants a 0 star ratting without having set foot across the threshold?
Because when I called to ask the hours, the man who answered the phone hung up on me.
We have recently moved to Reno from out of state and one of the first things I did was look up Indian Groceries. KJ Mini Mart is listed in several places as being an Indian grocery, and indeed, and Indian man did answer the phone # I called.
When I asked the hours, he stated that they opened at 10 AM. I asked what time they close - and he said something I couldn't quite catch, but it sounded like something along the lines of "it depends on the customer". As this struck me as a bit odd, I assumed I MUST have misunderstood, and said, "I'm sorry, did you say you don't have a set closing time?"
Whereupon the man hung up on me.

I had no trouble finding out the operating hours for the other 2 Indian markets I know of in the area. A-1 Indian Market in Sparks and Spice Rack in Reno were both very polite when I called to find out what hours they are open. In 30+ years of shopping for Indian groceries I have only had one other incident of extreme rudeness (or, in fact, any rudeness at all) - and that guy wasn't Indian, he was from Saudi Arabia. Indian store keepers are usually among the most polite that I have ever dealt with. This guy at KJ is an exception to the rule. read more
