This review is specifically focused on the "La Barca Food Truck" as they are part of the La Barca Mexican Store that is located on Stead Blvd in the northern Reno area. To those that are wondering, this wildly popular mobile food truck does not have a dedicated Yelp business page but their truck is a staple part of "The Eddy". This is a community space where several other small businesses collaborate together in one communal area complete with music, games, and onsite entertainment. Since this is in the heart of Reno, you are in close proximity to the Riverwalk, Truckee River, and the glitz and glamour of the various casinos and entertainment all within walking distance. I came here (The Eddy where "La Barca" is located) with my lady during the evening on Thursday 7/2/2026 at around 8:00pm. The mobile truck itself does not have any recognizable insignia or logo other than their name above the menu as well as their Instagram page: @labarca_62. However, the truck itself has a very cool theme to it with a painting of an ocean, shark fin, and an dark orange/red sunset which gives it a very colorful look. The menu is very simple with only your choice of a taco, burrito, quesadilla, asada fries, and a torta with all the popular meat options. Keep in mind that we barely made it here before they close as their hours of operation are 12:00-8:00pm. Since we were quite hungry after a busy day, I went with (1) Carne Asada taco and (2) Al Pastor tacos while my lady opted for (3) of their Carne Asada Tacos. The guys that run the truck were full of good vibes and energy which made the whole experience that much better. I will say that the tacos here were a bit on the pricier side (at $4/ea) but you're getting all the fixins including fresh sliced avocados, limes, jalapeños, and both red/green salsas to go with your tacos. As many of you know, I am a sucker for some good tacos and I will say that this place knows how to make them absolutely delicious! Both meats were seasoned to perfection and loaded with so much flavor. The red tortillas gave these a rather colorful look which set the tone for every savory bite. I will say that these tacos can definitely rival some of the best I've had in other cities like Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Jose, and San Francisco. All in all, "La Barca" is as good as it gets for me when it comes to Mexican food. My rating, a perfect five stars. read more

Came to the spot because it's right around the corner from my house and I wanted to check it out. Cause I would rather support a smaller grocery store/market rather than a big corporate one. I ordered two pupusa's. Pork and cheese. The pupusa's were quite bland and had no cheese pole. I was very disappointed in the quality of the pupusa. They're a little bit more expensive. But nice if you're in a pinch! I bought eight mangoes from them for 275 each. I bought them because they looked delicious and they were huge! So we shall see! But their Horchata drink.... My friend was craving tamales so when I went to visit her I thought I'd order from La Barca. They are close to home in a small strip mall. This store has been here for a long time and I've only gone in a couple times previously for miscellaneous items. I saw on Yelp I could place an order through the app and it was so easy. I paid with Apple, tip included and just waited for the text my order was ready! I ordered beef and pork tamales and they came to about $3 each. They came with red and green sauces and plenty of napkins. When I picked them up I saw they have tamales in their cold fridge case so next time I'll do that instead of getting them hot as we weren't eating them until later. They did have a good amount of meat and the masa was flavorful and light. Sorry no picture, next time! They sold me EXPIRED products. I brought buldak noodles and guess what. I Thought they were edible but... I was done boiling it and I opened the sauce packet the sauce was THICK. It wouldn't come APART. I checked the bottom of the buldak cup it was EXPIRED IN 2025 APRIL. I BROUGHT another candy and guess what. It didn't taste the same, so I checked the expiration to see if it was expired. EXPIRED IN 6/11/25 and it WAS STILL on sell. Their quesadillas are loaded with cheese, meats, and veggies if you want. I once lied to myself when I told my brother I didn't want anything from here while he was grabbing lunch.. next thing you know, I was eating half of my brother's steak quesadilla. A few of us had a long day off-roading in the hills and stopped by this small market/ restaurant for a bite to eat. What a pleasant surprise. This small mom & pop place had some flavorful food which was prepared with love. The service made it feel like I was at home and the portions were perfect. I had the steak dish and it was delish. This is a convenient spot to go for lunch if you are in the area. There is a restaurant inside of the store with a few tables but I always call and order to-go. They are always very accurate with their pick up time. If you decide to dine in, they will bring you your food! It is also nice to be able to shop around if you do happen to have some time to kill. Their food is tasty but it is a little on the pricey side. I ordered 6 tacos a la carte and while extremely tasty there wasn't very much meat on them and the total was a whopping $19! Despite the taste, for the amount of food I got it was unfortunately not worth it to me. I did notice after the fact that they have a taco plate that seems like a much better and worthwhile deal. I will be getting the 3 taco plate combo next time! The burritos are very filling and for a decent price of either $10 or $11 dollars depending on what type of meat you get. read more

Good food but they need to update their menu for "Peanuts" being included in some food item, or if they put "Mole" in certain foods. One of my favorite things to get are Birria Tacos. I have not tried them from this place yet, but I was willing to try. I have gone there before, and have asked if they use "Peanut oil", they told me they use vegetable oil which was a relief. I thought nothing of it because I have never had "Peanuts" on Birria Tacos before, and traditionally they don't put them on the tacos. So I am thinking they used "Mole". I started to get a severe Anaphylaxis Allergic reaction and decided to double check and call the place. The lady on the phone was very rude about me asking, she specified "There is Peanuts on top", i was concerned but kept my cool on the phone and was patient with her, but she did not seem to care I was having a severe allergic reaction so i hung up. I had to call 911 and have an ambulance come because I was not able to breathe, neck and lips swollen, shaking and on the ground. Even the hospital was surprised they put "Peanuts" on "Birria tacos" I am so careful with my allergy, and after so many years it caught me by surprise. I spent $7 on two Tacos, that cost me a big bill from the ambulance and hospital. I really hope La barca can update their menu, be more transparent of the ingredients they use in there food. I don't want them to go out of business, but I hope this opens their eyes to other people's food allergies and how it can cost them their lives. read more

This place is incredible! We GrubHubbed for delivery and the driver must have knocked things around a bit hence the look on the pics but the taste- top notch! We ordered the pork tamale, Barbacoa tacos, side of rice, Elote on and off the cob, chicken burrito, chips and red salsa. Everything has so much flavor! The order didn't have the consumme but instead carne asada tacos. Both salsas are amazing- note the red is incredibly spicy and the green is incredibly mild. When I am in the Stead area and I want some homemade good Mexican food, this is my place. During Covid, they have take out. If you are ordering pupusa, you may want to call in advance, because it takes 15 minutes to make. I had my usual carne asada tacos and a Cabasa pupusa that was yummy. I love their green and red homemade salsa. The red is hot and your mouth will be on fuego in the best way possible. Clean store, where I also pick up fresh green and red salsa and homemade tamales. Some things you pay for upfront something's in the back. My friend frequented this store multiple times a month. On one occasion she bought items from the back and front. The following week she returned to buy more carne Asada at this time they surrounded her, locked the door, took turns yelling at her in English and Spanish accusing her of stealing. They would not let her leave the store. After they had her crying the young lady behind the counter unlocked the door and let her leave. This is illegal. Omg... we ordered a ton of stuff from La Barca for our first time here and everything was authentic Mexican food good, definitely the best we have had so nice moving to Reno from Cali. I would give everything we had 5/5 except for the tamales had a ton of cheese, were super moist and good flavor BUT were so spicy we couldn't eat them, they put big slices of red and green peppers WITH the seeds still in them (I'd still give them 4.5 because other people would probably love them, I just can't do super spicy) The pupusa was great, the Gordita was amazing with the al pastor and next we got the tacos, chicken, lengua, and beef mole (not a normal mole at all really but suuuuuuper tender and the flavor was amazing! We also got a carne asada burrito but we were too full to try it...(since my surgery when we order street tacos, they always come with 2 tortillas so I make two tacos from one and we can't even tell the difference). Oh and they have bionico's which are my hands down favorite, will try that next as well. I ordered door dash earlier and the order was wrong, so I called them and they told me to go get the correct order, which I couldn't because I was working. I told my mom about the situation (not knowing that she was going to have my brother go into the store) when he went in they made a big deal about it asking for the old food (which was bitten and cold by now) the lady cooking was very rude. The cashier was nice, and if we had to pay for it I would've gladly done so. The mix up was just weird and some of the employees were very unprofessional.
