It is possible to run a profitable and successful business while prioritizing employee dignity and respect. All of this while providing full-time positions and livable wages with benefits too. Winco proves it! In the 20+ years that I've been a Winco customer, I've always been treated well which is a phenomenal track record that some jerk has ruined. Why Linda, why? She was covering the service desk and I came in to return a defective item. As I approached the desk, she was looking me up and down with a very strange expression. So because of this, I wasn't affable but I definitely wasn't rude. I cut to the chase of why I was there. She treated me VERY badly which I ignored for the most part, stating that in all of the years that I've shopped at Winco I've never been treated so poorly. She responded by saying that I was the problem and invited me to call the corporate office! Then she said aggressively, "I've had three horrible customers in one day!" repeating it a few times. I asked to speak to a manager and she quipped that he was busy and he couldn't get away so I asked someone else to page him for me and she interfered with that page, telling them to cancel it. This is a brand new store and everyone else is amazing which is what I'm used to. I wrote this shortly after the store first opened and haven't had an unpleasant experience since and I shop here weekly. I also have not seen Linda. It's a great store with great employees and low prices. I'll keep buying whatever they have that I need from Winco. This store is my first go to store. read more

Quality/Quantity - Back in the day, I mean WAY back when I used to spend more time in North Reno and when I was near broke (still near broke now, lol), this was the place for me to shop... Low prices! But you need cash or an ATM, even back then. And when you are shopping for one, how much cash do you really need... Atmosphere - Good size warehouse location. I think this was the first Winco I have ever visited...? Plenty of mall parking. Still open 24/7. They have a pharmacy here also, but I have never used it. Other departments - Bakery, deli, and one of the few companies that still have bulk foods, etc. Service - Self service, so good. Well back then there were no self service checkouts. The cashiers were good. Price - Inexpensive as long as you have cash or an ATM. These days I do not have either, lol. Credit cards have spoiled me. And now Apple pay... I used to buy model dairy milk at winco northtowne reno until they started spoiling the milk. So I started buying organic valley in the carton with a 30+ day expiration (last purchase). Now they started spoiling that product so (they think) people will buy their horrible milk. This is a nice store pretty nice. The produce is good but when it comes to the bakery or the candy aisle, definitely skip it. All the bakery is the worst bakery items you'll ever buy terrible and stale and the candy. Everything down the candy aisle just stale like it's been sitting there 20 years..... terrible. I hate everything about this business. Their store is a hot mess. You can use tap to pay to save your life. There is A SOLITARY tap to pay station which is MOVED from register to register but it won't accept Apple Pay. So god forbid you leave your wallet home and have to pay with Apple Pay... you can't. Winco is by far one my favorite grocery stores to shop for my weekly grocery shopping, they offer a huge variety of Mexican products for a great price, their staff are always helpful and greet you with a warm smile, they also have a stop and go pizza spot which is great if you're hungry while shopping. Lord if you don't mind a bunch of willy nilly people armed with baskets running around this place does have really good prices. The selection is pretty good they do have seasonal sections and hygiene section so kind of basically anything you need you can get here except clothes. The lines though are ridiculous I spent as much time in line to check out as I did to shop which was about 45 minutes. There's no rhyme there's no reason to the lines everybody just kind of pick somebody to stand behind and hope for the best. read more

Well in at 10:00 a.m. on a Thursday all of the lines for cashiers were fairly long but there was no one in line for self-checkout. I had about 30 items instead of the 10 or less that was told I could not self check out even though there was no line for self-checkout at all I needed to go wait in one of the long lines to have someone else do it for me. I would totally understand out or it was busy at all over there, but the woman was unwavering. So, in the time I am sitting here waiting to check out I I'm writing to express my frustration. Not busy at all I starting ringing my items when I notice the attendant there walking by my basket several times. I was detained by security at WinCo and the verbally abused me, called me names, aware at me, made me sit ina corner, the thing is I have a ADHD, mental disorder, and I told them 2 times the screaming isn't helping, the 45 min detain for a $3 cat toy and 4$ dog collar. It seems that some cashiers over charge for fresh produce: i.e. I was charged for 2 green onion bunch when I only got one and I was charged $1.12 for I small bwn mushroom. Hmmm not much but, not nice. I caught the mushroom overcharge, but she said "nope that's correct. May be a reading problem, don't know?? Winco has always had the reputation of having the cheapest groceries around, but all the little extras make this my hands-down favorite grocery store in Reno. One of my favorite things about Winco is their bulk foods section. From ground spices to trail mix to cereal and way way beyond, the bulk section is always my first stop when I'm stocking up my pantry. The prices here are insanely good, WAY better than anything you can get pre-packaged, and you get to go home with exactly how much you need - no more, no less. Another favorite department of mine is the deli case/hot foods. Yes, grocery store fried chicken and rotisserie chicken are staples and always good. But I swear, nobody even comes close to Winco's potato wedges! These things are perfectly crispy and well seasoned and potato-y. Yum! You can also get amazing thick-cut peppered bacon at a great price. The prepared foods section is also great - salads, sandwiches, and so much more... plus, random things like gyro meat and Chinese BBQ Pork just make for a fun and inspiring shopping experience. The whole store is always very well stocked (unlike Walmart!) The produce is fresh, the meat is good, and their bakery is loaded with awesome goodies. If that's not enough, you can always grab a slice of pizza and a churro for hella cheap on your way out the door (Costco who??) Their staffing has been great lately, the wait for a register has been easy peasy, and the self checkout is even better. I could wax poetic all day about how Winco is the best grocery store in Reno, but you won't really get it til you shop there a couple of times. Paid for my groceries and removed my card after prompted too. They then claimed it didn't go through and that I will have to pay again. I then received a notification that the transaction posted from my bank. I told them I'm not paying twice and need to speck to a manager. The manager was running the next lane immediately called the lost prevention guys (I.E. security). They took the items I paid for and then kicked me out. Even though I showed them the original text message, the bank app message and the bank transaction history all showing that it had posted. the who time the manage was being rude and saying I was being rude because I'm upset that they, in my opinion, just stole from me. They took the items I just paid for and gave me no way to prove that the transaction was in error. All I wanted was proof that the transaction wasn't valid after three notifications that it posted to my account. Just in case it didn't get reversed and they kicked me out. When I asked for their names the two lost prevention guys claim both of their name to be Clark and refused to give me something to determine who was who. I asked for last name but would of accept a letter or something to identify who was who when I file a complaint. It finally reversed an hour later, after the manager went back inside. Making me wonder if she manually did it after the fact. As I told them I was going to file a complaint. I have shopped at Winco for years without issue and this is how the reacted when a legitimate issue comes up. read more

This store regular checkstands open on a Saturday. When we tried to check out in the selfcheck line we were approached by Clark loss prevention and when I told the Lead clerk Tina that I wanted to talk to the manager on duty, both Clark and Tina said that the manager was unavailable. Not sure when I started my review but finishing it now. This store is local, employee-owned grocery store. When it's not busy, the store looks clean and not chaotic. Sushi place - I love it because they have varieties you can choose from and their sushi chefs are nice. Just say hi to them :) Unfortunately I'm giving it 3-4 stars because of their pizza restaurant. Their pizza was actually good for grocery store pizza. Since Costco don't carry their combo anymore, here's WinCo combo that I found out and loved ever since the first time I ordered it. But guess what? The service was bad. Not all the time though. But if you see Michael, just ask for someone other than him. I ordered 5 boxes of their large, one topping pizza (45 minutes of waiting period) I waited and came back after 45 minutes and unfortunately I wasn't able to tell that I wanted it double sliced as I'll be bringing it to school where little children will eat. Michael then told me they couldn't do it because it's already inside the box. I understand and said sorry and asked properly if he can do it this time. He then told me to go inside and buy a pizza cutter and cut it myself. Wow!!!! Customer service at its finest!!! I mean, I know it's my fault that I didn't state to double slice when I ordered but you don't have to be rude to your customer. I give this winco in Reno NV 4 stars because it was open 24 hours which made shopping for groceries easier for me so I do appreciate that as a chain business. However when I arrived there was no shopping carts available and all of the employees were using them so I politely asked a young man for one and he said no and I thought that was a bit odd. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or what however I did communicate and ask again and I was told again no which rubbed me the wrong way. I then proceeded to grab a disabled shopping cart because It was the only thing available. I also give it only a four out of five star rating because sushi is one of the most favorite things that I tend to eat and their sushi was very unfresh and dissatisfying. For them to be selling rotten sushi I mean that is unacceptable. My phone was dead otherwise I would've taken pictures. Overall I was able to snag the groceries I needed and those groceries were fresh and delicious and I do appreciate that aspect of it and again for being open 24 hours. read more

Today was first time I went to this location. It's a huge store similar to Costco but a ton of variety. I really liked the floor plan and the way that the groceries are arranged. The store itself was very clean and organized. I was so surprised to see the sheer amount of bulk food offerings. They had everything there and they were not sold out even with the Coronavirus that's going around. I bought some M & M's from the bulk section and they were pretty stale...so it concerned me about the overall freshness of these products. The prices were super reasonable so that was a good thing. I was happy to see the expiration dates were really good on most things and I liked the produce very much. I only spent $180 and I had 4 bags filled up A great choice for your grocery shopping! On the way out they even had one arm bandits if you want to gamble. I was shocked to go there Friday and see a queue of people around the building! Wow I wasn't going to wait in a line. I am so disappointed to be writing this review. I love Winco, or I used to until they became Costco to me. What do I mean by that? Ever notice that every time you get to love something at Costco, BOOM, it's gone forever. How long has this store been open for? They have already done it to three products I buy every week. Four if you count Zevia drinks they bounced two years ago. So today I call over the manager to chat. Now one of the reasons I loved shopping here is Winco proudly boasts it's an employee owned business. So that is why the manager told me these decisions are corporate based? Employee corporate? So Winco corporate, rather than call you and beg you to put back the items you removed. I will appeal to the public court of opinion to see if they want this treatment. What I wanted, just so we are clear, is I wanted the manager to say to me, "What?! We stopped stocking Rocky Road candy bars, even though you buy a case a month, let me fix it." Not put it back on me to mire through your companies semantics AND TRY TO BEG YOU TO TAKE CARE OF ME. 1) Panda Puffs cereal. Here is a classic. They discontinued it, even though their price was the best. And they moved it to the bins, FOR A HIGHER PRICE THAN THE BOX! Let's stop a sec here. The whole purpose of the bins is to reduce price by eliminating packaging. They moved Panda to the Bins at a higher price, then discontinued the brand. I called this to the "can do nothing" manager on duty who at least shrugged. The good part is the bin Panda was STALE! I have yet to remember to return the more expensive stale cereal. So that screwed me as a family member is gluten intolerant, and that cereal was the only one she could eat. At least I get to buy it for double the price elsewhere. 2) My Rocky Road candy bar. Seriously. Again, something I buy continually, not even worth an effort from today's can do nothing manager. 3) The carnitas the meat department had going and stopped without notice or explanation. It was great. Okay, well, today I solved my own problem. I hit the buzzer, the meat guy came out, said it wasn't selling, showed me the seasoning. But again, this place is always putting it back on me. 4) They have their brand carbonated diet soda/waters. Once, like a million years ago, they had many flavors to choose from, then rando, they have the two shittiest ones only for the last many months. WTH!? Costco all over again. Number five Is really just a complaint on a few things. I wanted them to get Zevia back, and I want them to get rice milk as I hate having to shop in multiple stores. How freaking hard is it to get Rice Dreams in the milk case. Walmart has it, Raley's has it. Nope, three different managers have BS'd me, and the one today just said it frustrates him too, as they do it to things he likes. "They". Don't buy into this type of jargon where they come into our neighborhood with a "employee owned" feel good to shop here, and their own people use, "They." So, Winco is NOT an employee owned store, they are a corporate- non-customer-centric entity hiding behind that BS and the only reason I am further patronizing them is the price and location. Customer service sucks. The pizza people are great! Ive never had a problem with them. The two people on grave who work the cashier are great too but the daytime people (even front end supervisor) needs work. Again not asking the world. Everything is just so hostile. I usually get in and get out and keep my head down but the second I have to talk to them, its the entire world has ended and God forbid I ask them a question.
