That's exactly what I found when I hit up Howard's Chevron for a routine smog check recently. See each year I try my hardest to get my car registered on time, but inevitably, something always goes wrong and I miss my deadline. So I hit up Yelp to try and find a smog station that could take me after 5PM, and I came across Howard's Chevron. But I really have Richard, at Half/Price Auto Repair, to thank for the referral. It's so nice to see #Coopetition in action! So anyway, Howard's stops doing smogs after 5:30 (apparently they need a Level 3 Trained Smog Tech available, and he goes home), so I wasn't able to get my smog in before my registration expired, but I decided to go in the next morning and hustle it over to the DMV, hence the experience at 7AM. Well, I thought the DMV opened at 7:30, but my memory ain't what it used to be, and they actually open at 8AM, so I ended up sitting in my car, entering the info on my phone, and sadly paying the $6 late fee YET AGAIN. Moral of the story is no amount of trying can get you out of any fees at the DMV, so just do yourself the favor and get your shit done on time. BUT, if you are a last minute person like me, and you can make it there by 5:30, Howard's Chevron will save your butt and $6, all with a big ol' smile!

Every time I've been to one of these, I get a really nice greeting, the guy today was from India, very polite to everyone that walked in. I talk to him for a second, since I've been to India, he was extremely nice. I think his name was Bahn or something similar. If I am not mistaken, you can also use your Smith's card here for discounts on gas. So if you don't have a Smith's card, get one as it is definitely my favorite place to shop for all of the low price groceries.

The gas station workers are very friendly unlike in California where they try to get you served as fast as possible and only want your money. Here I noticed that the people at the gas station pumping their own gas are friendly towards each other. As you can tell I'm California born and raised and am ready to stand my ground versus thinking someone wants to say hi and just talk. The gas station itself has a small convenience store but no car wash. You didn't have to wait for someone to pump their gas either half the pumps were empty.

The pumps can get busy especially on the weekends and you might have to wait for one, but it is never more then a 3-4 minute wait, get in line behind a small car, not a truck or SUV and your wait will be shorter (cars hold less gas!)

After gassing up I went inside to use the restroom *gasp* and grab an energy drink. Restroom doors are inside and always locked and the gal handed me a key attached to the stick of a toilet plunger (hopefully never used for its intended purpose). Along with the store, the Restrooms were clean. There was a solid selection of drinks, as you'd expect as a gas station/convenient store. Service was very nice, so they also had that going for them. Overall, not a bad place to stop for gas, but my wife didn't want to get out. She used the restroom a few exits up, but secretly I think she just wanted Starbucks.

I really like how the company seems to hold high standards for it's stores and its consistency between locations. This location in particular, is pretty convenient when traveling between the northern and southern parts of Reno. It's about halfway between Virginia St and 395, so really easy to access on the main veins. When I visit any location, I usually aim for the self check outs, as I pay with card and don't need the cashier to make change for cash. The self check outs are easy to use and prompts are easy to read and navigate. Consistent with the other locations, the coffee station and the to go hot food (aka delicious burritos) are well stocked in the morning, and less so in the afternoons I've noticed. (Also small gripe with the sausage burrito (my go to) has a new sauce and I personally hate the flavor of it. Just give me the ingredients without any extra sauce.) The added 24/7 hours make it real easy for any hour of travel to stop in and get road trip goodies!

Last night on 5/7/2024 At around midnight; I found myself crossing Victorian Ave and walking on Arcos property after unfortunately being forced to walk from downtown all the way home due to my truck breaking down and my phone being dead.... shoot. Stuff happens though oh well. But from downtown by Peppermill walking all the way to Arcos location in sparks was A JOURNEY. It was cold, windy, and miserable to say the least. By the time I came waking up to the convenience store I was sweating and hot and uncomfortable amd thrifty AF. Being the wonderful night it had already turned out to be with everything that happened, the fact that I was dead broke just puts the cherry on top. I walked inside and immediately was greeted by a younger idian man clean cut very good English very respectful I held my hand out to him with 79 cents i had floating around in my pocket. I asked him out of breath from my walk "Do you guys carry any smal cans of soda maybe I could buy for this 95 cents?" My expectations were for him to quickly dismiss me only because I've had bad experiences with this sort of thing in the past I definitely did not expect him to turn amd point to the soda machine and my face lights up he then says as im walking up to the machine tells me to grab the biggest cup they had an XXL which would have cost alot more then the 95 cents I had and let me fill that puppy up to the top. It made me think and i thought about it and it had been a very very very long time since i had experienced genuine generosity and humanity when dealing and talking about the human race. This day in age everyone is so rude and in such a hurry. This small gesture made me want to go out and do something nice for someone I didn't know to pass it on and pay it forward a little bit and i just wanted to recognize the worker at Arco who worked night on the 7th for being such a nice guy I will definitely come back and spend more money at th gas station regardless of what they are charging for fuel. Arco on Victorian as we all can imagine sees its fair share of "interesting" individuals and I think it'd be very easy to become sort of used to stereotyping and judging people unfairly due to the amount of bad apples they have to deal with on a daily or in this case nightly basis.
