With online shopping and chains killing so many retailers, I am happy to know that places like this still exist. They had the cable I needed (short HDMI) at a good price with friendly service. I will support them in the future next time I need a cable! Tip 1: Call ahead if possible, because I believe they need to go in the back and pick your cable from the inventory. It is not a "browse the aisles" kind of place. Tip 2: It's hard to locate from the street. I didn't see an external sign at all. It's on the second floor of an old multi-tenant building. I was in the middle of building a new PC in the new city that I had just moved to (hi, Los Angeles!) when I discovered that I did not have enough SATA cables to hook up all the drives that I was planning to install. I thought, "Well, SATA cables are pretty standard things in computer building, so they should be easy to find, right?" Wrong. You can certainly find them online, but apparently not in any physical location that you can drive to. I walked to the nearest RadioShack, only to receive a blank look from the woman at the counter, before she said, "I don't know what that is." (And I quote.) I called BestBuy - they didn't have it, either. Did they know any other electronics stores in Los Angeles? No. In desperation (and because I did not want to drive all the way out to Burbank on a Saturday night), I gave K 1 Cable a call. I was expecting an answering machine, but the owner picked up and asked what I needed. He said (regretfully) that he did not have any SATA3 cables, but he did have SATA2, and he would be happy to wait for me to drive over there to get them. So I drove over - took me a little while to find, because it's actually around back behind the other storefronts, off the parking lot. The owner was very nice and obviously knowledgable. No fancy packaging, no fancy presentation. Just exactly what I needed from a kind person who knows his stuff, and really wanted to be as helpful as he could. Cheaper than Fry's, too. It was a Saturday afternoon and my husband needed a particular cable plug to hook up some vintage audiophile equipment he recently purchased. Nowadays there is only BestBuy or Home Depot, none of which had anything remotely what we were looking for, so we called K1 Cable. The owner answered the phone and we told him what we needed. He was very knowledgeable and while he didn't have the exact cable, he knew exactly what to do. He ended up fashioning his own cable on his own and had it ready for us by the time we got there. And his prices are really low, so it's not like going to Best Buy (where they usually charge you $30 for a $10 cable). Ron at K1 Cable is extremely helpful. I called initially looking to buy a particular tool for connecting ethernet cable to an end terminal. Ron said that he doesn't sell tools but asked how many connectors I needed to install. I told him that it was only for one cable I was running through my house. He said I could come to the shop and borrow his personal tool! After borrowing the tool (he didn't ask me for a driver's license or deposit), my cable didn't work. Recently I had issues with Spectrum regarding my internet cable that connects my modem to the box. I had no internet for about a week and decided to do the connection myself. I needed a ridiculously long cable around 200ft. I called Best Buy and a bunch of other "electronics" and cable stores but they all said they didn't have the cable and that Spectrum uses a special type of cable that I couldnt simply purchase. I found K1 Cable through a google search and called in a last ditch effort and Ron the owner said he could make it for me no problem. Ron sold me the cable and made sure it worked and assured me that if it didnt, that I could call him. Ron is one of the nicest guys in business I have ever met. He has all sorts of cables that anyone could need. I was hesitant at first but not a lot of places have 5 stars and after meeting Ron, this business deserves truly the full 5 stars. Ron through an audio jack that I needed for free and was quick with responses. Its a small business that I will continue to support and will return for my future cable needs. Hard to find, the entrance is hidden away in a back parking lot, and it's a bit small and messy, but these guys came through big time for me! I was searching all over for a simple USB-to-USB cable, I went to RadioShack, Best Buy and Office Depot and NONE of those stores carry them! Absurd! It is a little tricky to find and is accessed from the parking lot behind the street (Robertson), but you will be able to find the same electronics goods at 25-50% of the price at Radio Shack just down the street. read more
