I had a pretty poor experience overall here. I worked with Kevin to fix my backup/emergency laptop, whose fan had died. I live in the Pasadena area, but chose to go here because this is the only certified ASUS repair shop in LA, including the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys (and therefore the only one who had the part I needed). So, despite the hour long drive in traffic, I went. At first, he appeared to fix it and I was happy with the results. Notably, Kevin mentioned that in addition to the fan, he believed that my hard drive was on it's last legs, and recommended that I replace it. I took him up on the offer since I was already taking the time to service the laptop. Unfortunately, by the time I turned on the computer again at home, I noticed that the computer did not boot up and it did not recognize the hard drive. This was decidedly frustrating, since he had recommended changing the hard drive, and it had failed on the first attempt to use it. Admittedly, I should have booted up the computer before I left the store to check whether he had fixed it correctly. However, I called him back and explained that he hadn't fixed the hard drive. While he found a creative way to fix the computer again (he knew that the hard drive was on warranty and ordered a new one for free), he still charged me for labor, which I thought was unfair, since he never fixed it correctly originally, or at least didn't check that it booted up properly the first time before handing it back to me. When I picked it up the second time, I noticed that the computer didn't recognize my battery when booting up. He explained that the battery had probably died (since the laptop was very old), and that a new one would do the trick. Since a new battery was under $30, I didn't complain and took it home. I shouldn't have trusted this statement on face value, but again, I wanted the computer back and didn't want to spend more time driving from Pasadena to the west side. I ordered a new battery, and yet the problem persisted - they computer didn't recognize it, and I could only use my laptop as a desktop (i.e. plugged in). I finally took it to another computer repairman, who figured out that Kevin likely fried something on the motherboard when he tried to repair the computer the second time, which resulted in the inability for the battery to be recognized by the computer. This will now require a motherboard replacement, which isn't worth doing considering the intended purpose of this laptop is an emergency backup computer, and it would cost more than the laptop is worth. Overall, I'm disappointed by the carelessness of the initial repair, the insistence on charging labor despite not fixing it the first time, and likely withholding the truth that he damaged my laptop in the second repair. Needless to say, I won't be going back to him to fix it a third time. I think someone should really consider becoming a certified ASUS repairman anywhere in the Los Angeles area, as this guy currently has a monopoly on that market, and could likely provide much better service than what I received. read more

I needed a battery for my 4 yr old Lenovo Yoga, and found online that California Computer is Lenovo certified. I originally spoke with Kevin, then with Lupé, who ordered the battery and texted when it came in. I paid in advance for the battery and installation which also included a much needed cleaning. I dropped my beloved laptop off at 12:30 p.m. and picked it up at 3:00 p.m. I did schedule this in advance, although not required I think it's only fair to any company so they can schedule and meet my timeframe. Here we are at 9:40 p.m. and my battery is still running strong and I feel as if my laptop is brand new. I would highly recommend California Computer and won't look any further if I need additional Lenovo repairs. Keep in mind that they also have a wide inventory of everything computer related. My Lenovo Yoga had a cracked screen for a year, so I finally took it to this place for replacement work. It was referred to me by the Lenovo Company as the trusted repair service. I was extremely satisfied with their repair service. They were courteous, professional, efficient, and careful. My laptop was restored to perfect condition with no problem. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A PIECE OF SHIT HERE. Brought my computer in after being instructed to do so by Lenovo. I called ahead of time and spoke to someone named Kevin who told me to come in anytime before 5 so they can take a look first and see which parts they need to order. Kevin also told me their business hours are on their website, along with their address and all pertinent info. So today, I walked in with my computer around 4:40, which is a time before 5 and way before their advertised closing time of 6pm. So you can imagine my surprise when Kevin and the older lady who also works there started giving me shit to my face for coming in so late when they have to close at 5. What the hell?? The audacity of them to get angry at a customer for coming in too close to their closing time, especially when they had told me over the phone to come in anytime before 5. This is right before Kevin told me that I have selective hearing and somehow I neglected to hear that they close at 5. THAT IS WHY I WENT IN AT 4:40. Is that such a crime?? Then they proceeded to tell me that they don't need my business and that I can go elsewhere. You are right. You are NOT the only computer repair store in the area and there is no way in hell I would trust you with anything I own. But you should be ashamed of yourselves for treating your customers this way, especially when you are an authorized dealer for Lenovo. My Lenovo laptop failed this Sunday afternoon. I was flying out of LAX to a third-world country the next day, at 6:00 a.m. I called California Computer, at 1: 30 p.m. at the recommendation of Lenovo Tech Support. California Computer was closing at their regular Sunday closing time, 2:00 p.m. The manager, Kevin Jebeli, told me to come right over. I cracked the screen on my Lenovo laptop and took it in for repair expecting to have to wait days or weeks for a part to come in, then longer for the service to be done. Lenovo it self would require mailing in the unit and waiting at least 3 weeks to have it returned. I was incredibly happily surprised not only that California Computer had the replacement screen in stock, but that they replaced it on the spot - in about 20 minutes! Kevin is a really nice person and in the past fixed my laptops and appeared to have given me a discount but he sells fraudulent parts. He sold me a 4 year old Mac that costed more than a new one during Covid and claimed the specs were the same as a custom $3000 Mac. When I brought it into Apple about a little over a year later to be looked at they told me it wasn't an actual Apple computer but it was instead a Mickey moused one together that he put together with random parts. It had an Apple sticker on it and when the Apple service person took off the sticker it wrote Oakland school district on it. So the computer screen may have been stolen but the store representative told me none of the parts were in fact Apple and that the inside was corroded. I went to Kevin's shop and he told me it was $299 to fix despite swelling me a fake computer so I went ballistic then his repair guy proceeded to intentionally damage the computer screen out of anger. If you go here you will be scammed. He bought the computer back for parts but I should have just sold it for parts on Amazon or eBay and sued him. read more

Kevin the tech was quick to respond to my email about the replacing the battery on my four year old laptop (can't be changed by the user). Lupe was super efficient in taking the order and in updating me on when the battery came in. They were super efficient and quick when I drove out to get it replaced. Automatically gave the old one back to me without me asking for it. They do keep odd hours - early closing on Friday, closed on Saturday and only open for pick up drop off on Sunday - being in the Jewish part of town might be the reason for Friday and Saturday. Would highly recommend! I'd ordered a laptop through Lenovo and right away it had an issue with booting up. After spending hours with Lenovo technical support, I decided to find a private business that had a relationship with Lenovo, since the laptop was obviously still under warranty. Even though technically the warranty didn't cover the issue (and I would've had to wait weeks to return the laptop and get a new one shipped, not to mention deal with Lenovo for another 5 hours), Kevin decided to help me out anyway and it was fixed in an hour. I paid for the diagnostic price which was agreed upon and decide not to fix my laptop as I'm planning to buy a new one soon. With so many 5-star reviews, I was convinced my Asus Zenbook would be fixed with a descent price in no time. There wasn't much wrong with my laptop, the screen was disengaging from the body, so the left hinge needed to be replaced. Everything else worked PERFECT. I called and was told to drop in when they opened, cool, I did that. I walked into the Echo Park ("Downtown") location on a Friday morning and was told there is a $135 minimum fee for labor and I'd have to pay for any extra parts; I was also told I'd receive a call on Tuesday about what the technican found out during a diagnostics test. I reluctantly gave up my laptop because these prices sounded a bit steep. Strike 1. I decided to experiment: two days later, I called Kevin (pretending to be someone else) and asked about pricing for the same issue, he said it would be $110! That's $25 less than what he told me at the store. SHADY AF. Strike 2: Tuesday comes, so I call and it turns out my computer hasn't even been looked at. Kevin mentioned he'd look at my computer and give me a call in an hour. An hour later, he calls and tells me the hinge need to be fixed (duh) and I need a new LCD screen, (I wanted to cry out laughing! My screen works perfect) and it will cost $300 to fix. How about, no. I told him, I'm no longer interested in repair and I'll pick up my laptop the same day. Strike 3: I made my way to the store and my laptop was returned in a vulnerable state. He took the left hinge out and the screen is LITERALLY hanging on to the body by a WIRE, ONE WIRE. I kid you not. Why not return it to me in the same state? Strike 4: Diagnostics fee is $55. I asked why did it take four days when he did it in an hour that day. He had no words. He asked: "so, what do you want to do." Me: "I want a signifacnt decrease in the amount I have to pay for "diagnostics"". Kevin: "how much?". Me: "$20". Kevin: "I don't work for $20, I will waive the fee"... My company purchased an item from CCC a couple of years ago and we were very pleased with their customer service and prices. We quickly bookmarked them for future reference however something very bad has happened since then. We placed an order with them earlier this month and instantly got an e-mail confirmation that our order was successful. No problems. Today (3 weeks later) we called to check what the hold-up was and we were told that they didn't have our order on file, they informed us to call the manufacturer of our machine and then hung up on us. DO NOT TAKE YOUR COMPUTER TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. Taking your computer to this place is like going to a hospital for stitches on your finger and losing your arm to a bacterial infection. I took my computer in for a new graphics card and they gave me a LIVING NIGHTMARE. They are the worst computer place that I have been to. They returned my machine and it did not work. I do not think that anyone tested it. I took it back and it Worse yet, they broke into my computer, overrode the security to repair it- now I do not have any security. I am getting all sorts of viruses. It has cost me $800 to try to fix it. I might have to completely reformat the drive and reinstall of my software. They tried their best to help me by attempting to answer whatever questions I had, which they answered. They are knowledgable if you have questions. However, prior to me bringing in my laptop I called them. They told me that the problem that I had would more than likely be fixed and that it was a very simple and cheap replacement of the DC jack. I also had a few minor problems (sound was off, computer was laggy) However, they cannot be sure because they'd have to open up the laptop to see. So someone dropped off the laptop for me and also my charger for that laptop. After I got my laptop back they told me that they couldn't fix that problem unless I replaced the motherboard!! That was whatever with me, because I was kind of not expecting too much. They also successfully fixed minor problems. However, for that I could've seen someone else from craigslist or something and get it fixed one for a much lower price. These problems were small problems like cleaning out the fan and such. ONE PROBLEM THOUGH : When I got back my laptop, they told me that I did not give them the charger. That is false, because i did give them my charger. They wrote on one of their papers that I did not bring in a charger, but I did. Clerical errors on their end should be FIXED, not given to me. You can't lose my charger and tell me i never gave one... and not only that but if you guys refuse to replace it then I would have been better off going somewhere else! Another con : Parking and traffic is very bad here. I parked unknowingly in their neighbors parking area, and they told me to move. I told them OK I'd move it after I got my receipt real fast and submitted the review for the discount. I did those quickly and they made me wait a while for them to give me a receipt because of computer problems! What angers me the most is that they the discount requires a 5 star review. I mean, a check in is OK. Asking me to write a review is OK. But asking for a 5 star review...? California Computer Center specializes in providing a variety of computer products and services. They also have an online store for selling computer hardware. Their main showroom is in downtown (444 S. Flower St) but I came here to get my Thinkpad fixed since this place was the closest authorized Lenovo warranty service provider. Upon first glance, the place looks locked down (there's a big fence and the place is gated) but you just have to go up the driveway and honk your car, and they'll open the gate up for you. I think you'll have to go to their other location to get a better idea of the stuff they sell, but this is not a bad place to get your computer fixed. Turnaround was a little slower than they told me - they said it would be less than week, but given the fact that Lenovo had to to ship new parts to them, I'm cutting them some slack. It took about 8 business days to replace the malfunctioning board. In addition to basic computer repair they offer a ton of other services, such as installing wireless networks, getting rid of spyware/viruses, and setting up firewalls. Plus they're authorized by a bunch of companies, such as Cisco, Microsoft, Canon. read more

I have an ASUS laptop that I took to another shop for repair, and crashed about six months later. I found this repair center on the ASUS website. Kevin (from California Computer) informed me that ASUS uses only their own parts an programs for repairs, and possibly the parts the other shop put in didn't work. I put my trust in Kevin's words and had him make the repair after finding the problem. Only issue was wait time. Parts came from China and due to the pandemic i had to wait longer for delivery of parts. Fast forward three months and the laptop works like new. They seemed to repair my laptop OK, but they need a lot ofnhelp in customer service. First, they are not open on Saturdays but didn't tell me that when they called me (although they are open on Sundays!) Second, their answering machine message lists an incorrect address for them, resulting in a wasted trip for me. And lastly, after installing a new motherboard in my PC, they didn't even bother reactivating my copy of Windows! I came here all the way here (to the service center on Broadway) to get my ASUS Zenbook screen replaced after cracking it by accident. They are an ASUS Authorized Dealer and Service center, so I felt safer having them work with my laptop. I also noticed that most of their negative reviews were for purchases and there were some positive reviews for services, so I was more willing to take that chance. Given that they are an authorized service center, they had the part ready and on hand, and I was able to get same day service. I arrived in the morning and the repair was done in 2.5 hours. The man who was in charge of repairs was patient and willing to answer my questions about the repair and gave me ways to prevent it from happening again. They're not great on taking the initiative to give you those suggestions or tell you things, so it's important to come with questions! I didnt know my replaced part had a one-year warranty against defects until my mom asked, and we had to ask again to find out how we would have proof of that in the event that we needed to use it (via the receipt we got). The receptionist was very kind as well, and handled all the billing. They don't have a lot of staff so it's a fairly quiet office. Another thing that was a minor complaint was that when I got my computer back, I noticed some scratches on the front and back of my laptop. They're completely cosmetic and it's not that big of a deal, but I do with they had been more careful. They also stuck a sticker with their company and info on the bottom, which I guess could be useful but a business card would have sufficed :\ All in all, a generally positive experience with a few minor complaints. Please note that yes, you have to HONK to get then to open the gate - they look closed but they're really open! Also, it is CASH OR CHECK ONLY! And check has to take a few days to clear first before you can pick it up.
