So this is one of our high end go to's for my wife and me as well as some of our friend group…read more I'm a big fan of the popcorn they provide...the full bar they make an Exellent Tito's Martini...didn't like they charged for Blue Cheese olives, kind of bush league...but the drink was fantastic. Their Espresso Martini is also well done. The Apple Pie Moonshine is also a favorite just on ice. I get either the Jalepeno Hanger Steak ...or the Venison Salisbury Steak...both are Darned good...excellent! They don't have the appetizer pickle spears anymore, but those were great, the street corn queso is also excellent. The atmosphere is always very nice, we love the bar area and the high tops there...great service always high end. Not white table cloth high end, but very high end nice casual if that makes sense. Great place for a date night etc where you're dressing up and having a nice night out.

The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and the bartender was welcoming and friendly from the moment I sat down. I ended up ordering a delicious Old Fashioned (I couldn't resist with all that bourbon around!), a fresh, flavorful salad, and even enjoyed the complimentary popcorn--a fun little touch. The menu had so many tempting options that I'll definitely be back to try more. If you're looking for a great spot to unwind with good food, drinks, and a laid-back vibe, Moonshine is worth a visit.

My husband ordered their burrito, which came with chips and a cheese dip on the side. Their shrimp was good; nothing special. I did ask to try aleida's sauce, which many people liked on yelp, but we liked their green sauce the most! Overall, very cute and colorful restaurant; loved all the decor. The outdoor patio, where we sat, was covered and nice, until it started pouring hard outside. Not a super authentic latin restaurant. No complimentary chips and salsa. My taco wasn't worth more than $5, tbh, and we paid close to $9..given it was shrimp, but we've had much better shrimp tacos elsewhere for less. I wish I had a photo of my poor taco, but I totally forgot to take a picture :/

Plenty of menu options as well. The staff are warm, welcoming, and accommodating (we came with a group of 6 and they got us situated right away). The space is small (which I find very nice), there is indoor and covered/shaded outdoor seating available. And I love the decor! Overall, highly recommend!

I came to Whiskey Cake for the first time last weekend to celebrate my friend's birthday. My…read morefriend, who was building out the reservation, asked why we would need to be there for three hours, from 6 to 9 pm, before our next plan on our itinerary. By the end of the night, when we were rushing to make it to our 9 pm event, she understood. Whiskey Cake is one of those New American craft kitchens that has a great bar and consistently great food, even if it doesn't immediately blow you out of the park. I drank a few drinks here, starting with their Texas Barrel Aged Old Fashioned, made from Still Austin Bourbon, a honeysuckle liqueur, vanilla, and orange bitters. A really strong but full-bodied cocktail with a lot of great flavors at play. I drank a local Austin beer on tap that I'm suddenly blanking on off the draft, and ended the night with a Montucky Cold Snack combo with a small pour of bourbon (maybe 1792, don't quote me). We only ate appetizers and sharables while at Whiskey Cake. I'll try to run through everything we had: Local Goat Cheese Fondue: A uniquely sharp experience. The bread was fantastic, but I'm very particular on my cheese and decided goat cheese wasn't for me. Roasted Garlic Hummus: The pita bread rocks, and so did the hummus, which is the actual selling point of the dish. Fries & Friends: Literally a basket of fries and dipping sauces. Not bad at all, but I don't know what you would expect. Deviled Eggs: I can't truly get behind hard-boiled eggs for some reason, but if I don't perceive that it's a hard-boiled egg, I can imagine that these are killer. I really enjoyed this. Charcuterie Board: A little bit of this, a little bit of that. A really excellent collection. The cheddar, the sausage, the cured meats, and the honey were all standouts, and it is probably the best table appetizer to get if you're also getting a full meal. Just little snacks for everyone! We ended the night with some of their Whiskey Cake, which is absolutely delightful and is obviously what they are known for. The waitress that served us was fantastic and timely and super friendly. The atmosphere was generally very nice and led to good conversations and had a solid energy. Ultimately, Whiskey Cake impressed me for what it offers and what it can be. They also definitely got whiskey. Tons of whiskey.

I came to Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar for a casual dinner with family and received so much more…read more No reservation and there was plenty of seating. We were able to change tables to accommodate more privacy. Casey was our server and so helpful. One of my family has dietary restrictions and Casey let us know the kitchen could rework almost anything to accommodate us. She also helped us get an order in before the happy hour ended. The artichoke dip well presented and good but not memorable. The old fashioned and margarita are excellent. For the main event I had the smoked pork chop. There is not a part of the dish I don't think was perfect. The chop, sauce, broccoli and slaw combined perfectly. I would say come back for this alone, but the tavern burger and chicken sandwich were great as well. The fries are crunchy on the outside and flaky inside. Grilled vegetables are an excellent side. You shouldn't leave without an order of the whiskey cake. "I only want a bite," doesn't exist. If you aren't very hungry start with dessert and add the main dish to go. Whiskey Cake has an exhaustive whiskey list and Wednesday has $7 pours which makes tasting easy. I hear brunch is excellent; I can't wait to try it.

Restaurant was very pretty and clean…read more I ordered fried pork chop, mashed potatoes, jalapeño gravy and an extra side of macaroni & cheese. It was all beautiful to look at but was the worst food I've had in a long time. Some of the Pork Chop breading was fantastic. Salty and very seasoned but unfortunately some of it smelled and tasted like fish. The pork chop itself was absolutely awful. So many tendon-y or grisly-pieces or I'm unsure what the true technically correct term is but they were gross. I kept spitting those pieces out, trying to give it a fair chance but apart from the texture some pieces did not smell good like old pork and some of the breading smelled of fish. I just couldn't stomach it. The potatoes were OK. The gravy was great. The mac and cheese had not one single aspect that was actual mac and cheese. Not one shred of cheese, not one drop of liquid cheese. Zero cheese flavor. If there was any cheese on it at all I certainly did not "recognize" it and that is terrible. Zero flavor, salt, or seasoning at all. It was simply boiled pasta shells. I also got the dump cake no ice cream. I don't understand all the rave reviews. It was also very pretty and the texture was moist amd fluffy. But flavor wise it simply tasted like sugar with a slight hint of I'm unsure what.. I give almost everything a 2nd chance. So I'm willing to try it again. This was so incredibly bad I just can't believe that this is the norm.

I was on the hunt for good soul food in Austin, and The Rolling Rooster absolutely delivered…read more The collard greens were some of the best I've had in a while. They were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of vinegar and cooked to that ideal tender texture without being mushy. The fried chicken and catfish were outstanding. Both were well seasoned, incredibly crispy, and tasted like they were fried in fresh grease. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked macaroni and cheese was good, but it leaned a little more toward a Velveeta-style cheese sauce than my personal preference. Still a solid 9/10. I also ordered the Peach Passion Fruit Hennessy margarita, and it was superb. Smooth, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the prices were very reasonable, and the portions were generous. If you're looking for authentic soul food in Austin, The Rolling Rooster is absolutely worth the stop. I'll definitely be back.

The young lady at the register left quickly when we approached, and when I asked if we could dine in, she told us there was no room. That felt unusual, but we decided to order takeout. While placing the order, she mentioned there were plumbing issues and something was overflowing, which raised another concern about the cleanliness of the environment. She also seemed anxious and unprofessional during the interaction. We were told the food would take about 15 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, especially for the price. The oxtails, rice, greens, and macaroni and cheese were around $36. The okra looked like it had been refried, and the chicken wings tasted as though they were cooked in old grease. The greens had an unusual flavor, and the macaroni and cheese did not taste like traditional mac and cheese. The oxtails were messy but not tender. Based on the lack of professionalism, the long wait, and the overall quality of the food, I do not plan to return.

A Fantastic Introduction to Mediterranean Food!…read more I recently visited Levant Halal Restaurant and brought my parents, who are visiting from India. It was their very first time trying Mediterranean food, and they absolutely loved it! We started with two different types of hummus served with pita. The hummus was incredibly flavorful, and the pita was exceptionally fresh. We also ordered the falafel, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. For the main course, we shared the Chicken Shish Taouk with sides of beet salsa and Lebanese potatoes--everything was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. Honestly, the highlight of the meal for us was the drinks. The mint juice and beet juice were so refreshing and easily the best part! We finished our meal with baklava and basbousa for dessert, and both were fresh, sweet, and incredibly tasty. Beyond the fantastic food, the ambiance is very neat and clean, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.
