I recently returned for another visit, this time to celebrate my birthday, and I'm happy to say I can confidently give them that fifth star I was debating! If you haven't already, I recommend reading my previous review, as everything I mentioned there still holds true. I just want to emphasize again that the Game Masters really make the experience. Having been here three times now, I've had two amazing Game Masters and one decent one, so I'm inclined to believe you're unlikely to ever get a bad Game Master here. This time, we tackled Cabin in the Woods, and let me tell you--it's ridiculously hard but so much fun! I'd recommend going with a larger group. We only had three people, one of whom was my dad, who hilariously gave up after the first ten minutes. This is definitely a game where having everyone spread out and working on different puzzles is key to escaping. While we technically made it out, it was thanks to significant help from the Game Master. I think we would've done better with at least four actively engaged players. That said, it was an incredible experience, and I highly recommend it. Whether you escape or not, you're guaranteed a great time! read more

So, I returned to Just Escape to be pleasantly surprised by The Cabin in the Woods room! My friend and I had been disappointed by another escape room in the area, and since we were already nearby, we figured why not try Just Escape again? I was a bit nervous about The Cabin in the Woods because the reviews made it out to be really hard and impossible without a lot of people. We actually didn't make it out, but we attribute that to the game masters, which I will discuss later. This room made the most sense and had the most enjoyable puzzles of all the rooms in the franchise. The room also gave clues for sequencing (which clues unlock which locks), which are not present in the other rooms. I would recommend this room for more experienced players and The Ultimate Candy Factory for newbies! We wasted a ridiculous amount of time on one part of the room. We were yelling for the game master to give us a hint. We believe that the game master was being changed, and no one was actually monitoring our room. When someone finally responded, they told us to do exactly what we were already doing for 10 minutes, which shows that they weren't watching us. They did mention at the end when I complained that they would have given us more time if they weren't fully booked. This is not a first, as we have had mixed experiences with game masters at Just Escape. read more

I'm rating this based on a child's birthday party. Went over the past weekend, 10 people in total. The party consisted of 2 adults, 2 middle schoolers and 6 elementary ages. The party was decently priced (just over 400) which included a room, host, candy, pizza and drinks for 10 people. The room was small but decorated well. You have an hour to complete the room with up to 4 hints (if needed). We were able to complete it in approximately 50 minutes. The host was great and there is some parking. My friends and I came to Just Escape recently to do the Cabin in the Woods theme escape Room, and boy was it difficult, but in a fun and challenging way. The story line and puzzles were very immersive and I was pleasantly surprised. Our game master, (I want to say it was Amanda?), had great humor, great communication skills, and overall very pleasant to work with. We weren't sure exactly how it would work with COVID, but it was very relieving to see that they were taking every precaution necessary and were very diligent. Although my group didn't make it out, we had a lot of fun. Would recommend highly. This is a great place to go with children or friends, especially if you're looking to get out of the house. read more

A great choice for a midday activity, and the first Escape Room I've done on Long Island, I've done one before in LA but it has been awhile since the last time. Booked the night prior for the Pirates of the Black Sea room at 2:30, and it was 35 a person, so 70 bucks for the room and hoping it would be a good time. This place does book up solid for the weekend, and we showed up early as stated many times in the sign up process, but too early, so we sat in the waiting area and relaxed. Place is also packed with kids, for birthday parties and things, so expect a little bit of a ruckus if that's going on. Then, our time came up, and the "Room Master" or whatever they are called showed us to the room and setup the scenario, watched a safety meeting made up 100 percent of gifs and memes, which was funny, and then got settled into the story. The room itself was pretty challenging, and the puzzles and mysteries were very fun. Well thought out and intricate, we did have a great time in there. The loss of star is from a few things. The kids were just screaming and going crazy outside the room which was jarring, but only for a small portion of the time we were in there. Also, there were two things that were broken and just opened up to reveal more clues and puzzle pieces, but still, the challenges and answers were tough to figure out, and the game master did help us plenty along the way. Definitely a fun place, would absolutely return again to try the hardest room, "Lost in the Woods", but we may need reinforcements next time! read more

Came here on a Saturday with a reservation for a party of 5 and had an absolute blast. We opted for the pirate room which was a great balance of difficulty and brain teasing and fun. It's allegedly one of the more difficult rooms they offer, but I would love to see how the rest of the adventures are set up just for the experience. Great thematic way to spend an hour trapped with your friends! Staff was great and very helpful. There is a small parking lot to the side, but if it's full there are side streets nearby that you can park on without much hassle. read more

Interesting how I saw something like this on Living social, Groupon. With everything negative going on my family and I still wanted to do something different , positive and have fun. So we decided to go to Just escape. The location very convenient. Lots of parking. Take Sunrise Hwy to Broadway quarter of a mile down you there at the location on the left hand side. So my family showed great team work. I was so proud and impressed. We laughed so hard but stayed focused enough to accomplish the goal and that was to escape. The manager Angie there was awesome. She gave great clues and worked with us throughout the entire time. Sje was very friendly and welcomed us.. It was said that only 25 percent of people get through the escape we went through. Just escape. Easy enough to say, not as simple to actually carry out. Well, that might be the case when in Massapequa and visiting one of the better LI "escape room" setups, aptly titled with that aforementioned duo of words. I've been to the "Can You Escape?" rooms in Mineola as well as one of the Challenge Escape rooms in Patchogue and this version definitely falls in the middle (though more towards the positives than anything else). For one, the theming is awesome. We were housed inside "The Illusionist" which had some great decor and looked as if time was definitely put into making it a memorable escape experience. It was unfortunate that one item in the room was apparently broken (and did give us a little added confusion), though this didn't deter our efforts from getting out. Maybe a few thematic noises were a little repetitively annoying, but our minds were mostly on trying to, ya know, escape! Besides that actual room, it sounded like a nice slew of others were available, making the desire to return quite probable. Just Escape did have a good building setup as well. The lobby area was small, but comfortable with some cool little toys. And the employees? They were friendly and took our pic on one of our phones after completion (because we did indeed escape, before the hour was up). Overall, Just Escape is just great. Okay, to be a little more descriptive it's worthy of a mysteriously puzzling good time (better?). If you find yourself with an hour and you're not claustrophobic, swing by Massapequa and try to get out. Just do it (not Nike). read more

So I've done many escape rooms in the city and Long Island. This place is clean, the technology they use for the hints and time is great and the game masters are quick to respond/help but the problem we had in sweet revenge is that it has a connecting door to another roll that was full of 10 year old boys. They were screaming and at times pounding on the door, it was distracting. I was told there was an adult in there with them and I can't imagine how hard that was for that worker but the set up of rooms connecting like that can be a problem when one room is full of kids. Just Escape is one of the highest rated escape rooms on Long Island - and I'm here to tell you to avoid it at all costs. I am an escape room enthusiast who has been to many different rooms across the nation. Just Escape is at the bottom of my list. I could see Just Escape being a fun time if you're very new to escape rooms - I can only presume that many of these positive reviews are from casual or new escape rooms fans who don't know any better, perhaps families with young children who just want an activity to get out of the house. My group did two rooms here - Pirates of the Dark Sea and The Illusionist. Both rooms had technical difficulties that made progressing impossible. For example, we were pretty stumped to begin The Illusionist. According to the game master, a small chest was supposed to display a name to point us in the right direction. That chest in fact did not have a name - after many minutes of confusion, the game master realized they "got a new chest and forgot to put the name there." Whoops. Just one example here of faulty room setup causing major issues. Furthermore, neither room had a logical progression that made any sense. If you've been to many escape rooms, you know there's usually a "flow" to a room that makes for a satisfying experience. Without spoiling too much, the rooms of Just Escape are pretty haphazardly put together, where getting from A to B to C is something that really only happens through dumb luck or straight-up being given answers by the game master. Finally, I'll end with pointing out that the Game Master had a tough time helping out with clues - often times giving us clues for things we'd already solved, or straight up giving clues that didn't make sense. The Game Master is supposed to know the room like the back of their hand in order to help out when necessary, and it was clear this wasn't the case here. I save this point for last because I can't place too much fault with them, given that they're clearly children. Maybe that speaks to the management of Just Escape though - by giving the Game Master role to children, it leads to a less professional, immersive, and enjoyable experience. In an area like NYC - perhaps the escape room capital of the world - there are a plethora of better options to choose from. Do yourself a favor and don't waste $100+ here. read more

I was wondering where they had the room for everything since the building looked so tiny; turns out all the rooms are in the basement! My friends and I had a great time at Just Escape! There were four of us, we tried (and failed) to escape from "Prey." I don't want to give anything away (spoils the fun) but it was a really great time! It was all of our first times so we didn't know what to expect. (My boyfriend and I had recently seen the movie "Escape Room," which definitely added to the fear factor a little bit.) The room we selected is rated the highest difficulty. I would recommend first timers attempt one of the medium difficulties. The Game Master was great, I think his name was Rob. The time really flew by for us. The 60 minutes felt like 20. We will definitely be back again for a second attempt (and likely third attempt) at Prey! We will bring more friends to help. The more the merrier! read more

Booked a room yesterday to celebrate a birthday. We needed a late booking due to some members of our party working late. Unfortunately we hit a bit of traffic on the way there and arrived at 9:36 for our 9:30 room. When we walked in we were immediately asked with attitude "can I help you" We advised this employee that we were there for the 9:30 illusionist room. Her immediate response was " well I have to take time off because you're late" Never asked why or even cared why. She also never gave an explanation or apologized that she would have to do that. She couldn't care less that she would be shortening our time. Anyway she had us fill out waivers online and said she'd be right back. We did the waivers and chatted amongst ourselves (mostly about her bad attitude) while we waited for her to return. She then took us to our room when she finally introduced herself to us... "Hey I'm Lauren on of the general managers here" oh you're a manager and that's how you act? At this point we noticed that she would be starting our clock at 45min instead of 60. WE WERE 6 MINUTES LATE! How did we now lose 15? My family and I have done quite a few escape rooms all over Long Island and elsewhere. We've never encountered someone like her. She was bland, rude and unenthusiastic. Certainly not someone who should be in the "entertainment" field. I understand we were late and I get the reasons for keeping a schedule, but we were clearly the last booking of the night. She clearly did not want to stay extra. And that's all fine and good as well. But her whole attitude about it was so poor. We wound up not escaping but being super close, a member of our party jokingly said well maybe if we had another 15 min to which she replied " well maybe you shouldn't have been late". I have always experienced upbeat and fun game masters. She was the absolute opposite. The room itself was good. The perfect amount of challenge. No complaints there. "I have done escape rooms with various groups of people all across NY as well as in a few neighboring states. I've probably done something like 20 different rooms. I can confidently say that Just Escape is one of the best escape room establishments that I've ever visited. They are clean, professional, friendly, and well thought out." This would have been my plain review for Just Escape after visiting them a handful of times over the last two years or so. Then, they spent the first half of 2020 helping me plan my wedding proposal. That's where the review gets a little longer. Jacqueline and her staff at Just Escape were cordial and helpful from the first time I called them asking about the possibility of planning a proposal. I spoke with multiple staff members throughout the process and every single person was great! I'll try to still keep it short and sweet, but here's a breakdown of my vision that Just Escape helped bring to life. I bought a blank white puzzle (only 12 pieces, and the whole puzzle was the size of a sheet of paper so the pieces were big) and had a picture glued onto it that said "FLIP ME OVER". On the back of the puzzle, written in invisible ink were the words "TURN AROUND". Without ruining the escape room itself, here's how it went down: In the final object which opened in the room, there was an envelope. The envelope read "To escape, you must solve the puzzle and answer the question." Inside the envelope was the puzzle I described above, along with the UV flashlight to see the invisible ink. We completed the puzzle and saw that it said to flip over, which we did. Then, we used the UV flashlight to reveal the "TURN AROUND". I pretended to be confused, mentioning that the envelope said we had to answer a question. I told my girlfriend to use the UV flashlight to check again for any other clues, while I stood behind her. Then I said "Oh, I think I know what the question is!" I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes! The staff at Just Escape walked me through the room in advance to prepare me and ease any nerves I had about the actual escape so that I knew we could get to the end. They allowed me to slightly manipulate their room to my liking to plan my perfect proposal. Specifically, Hailey - our game master - was an immense help to me. She was the one who personally walked me through the room and made sure we would escape. She even let me borrow her GoPro and hid the camera in the room so that we were able to get a video of our special moment to cherish forever. Jacqueline, Hailey, and the entire staff at Just Escape truly went above and beyond to make my proposal come to life and I could not be more thankful for all of them. read more

GOOD PLACE BUT READ ON FOR TIPS TLDR: cabin in the woods has a 16% solve rate and should be attempted with a LARGE group of people. would've appreciate more transparency from the business of escape stats. I work at an escape room and have done many so I was very excited to go back to just escape to try their hardest room- cabin in the woods. when the website would not let me book for only 3 people, I called and asked for an opinion as to whether it was too hard to solve with only 3 people. the answer I received was ambivalent because obviously they never really know who's walking into a room, but the answer I learned is a resounding YES. there is SO much going on in this room and you would need at least 6 pairs of eyes to absorb everything. I wish the solve rates were posted on the website, because that would've affected my decision too. this room was a level 5 with a 16% solve rate. the level 4 room is listed at a 40% solve rate (as seen at the escape room itself, not online). this definitely would've given me a better idea of what I was working with. I was sad the game master (as wonderful as they were) didn't walk us through the rest of the room that we didn't complete- I wanted to walk out of there feeling like I had learned or solved something! I wanted to experience and understand more of the storyline. i was a bit put off when they started resetting the room while we were in it asking questions (maybe they were just pressed for time between bookings) and I didn't see anything being used to sanitize the room (but that very well could've been something that was just done after we left). I recognize that my disappointment is primarily with the fact that we didn't escape, and while we did have a lot of fun, I would've appreciated a bit more transparency throughout the process. read more

ESCAPETHEROOMers first came to Just Escape back in Sept 2018. This escape room feels like a private house. There's a few parking spots in the back and street parking in the front. You'll need to climb a few steps to the door. "The Illusionist" is well decorated and definitely stuck with the storyline of a magician's work space. We felt that the room was a bit small but it was perfect for two people. A large group may feel a little too claustrophobic and there's only a few puzzles to work on. We enjoyed the ending as it felt like a great conclusion to the storyline. The mixture of high-tech and basic locks were a perfect combination (no pun attended). There aren't too many red herrings in this room, which we liked. The two of us escaped with some time left. The customer service is great as they actually do a personal call to you after you complete the room to ask about your experience and feedback. We'll be back to try another room soon. We decided to try another room of theirs and found this "Underworld" room which needed some updating. We understand this is one of their older and original rooms, but we just didn't expect the level of difference to be this drastic. We did not feel immersed at all in this room. In fact, when you enter you can actually see right through the windows to outside. There were a lot of red herring puzzles in the room that really annoyed us as it wasted a lot of our times and we felt that it was thrown in there because there was really not enough real puzzles to be solved. There was really no storyline at all except to just get out of the room. There were definitely a few props that needed to be replaced due to its worn out state. We did end up getting out with two minutes to spare with just the two of us. Currently this is our official "Red Herring" title holding room. The latest time we've been there we had more people. We decided to book their most challenging and very scary room - "Prey". The maximum amount of people for this room is 12 and we had a total of 7 (4 of us and 3 others joining in). The game starts off divided into two groups and you are all held captive handcuffed to something. Communication is definitely going to be very important in this game in order to survive. The decor was mediocre as we felt it needed a bit of an update. The puzzle designs had very little technology incorporated. Also, we were right next door to another escape room and we were able to hear them throughout our game. It kinda took away from our experience which didn't have us fully immersed. As a precaution, this room is for ages 17+ and they don't recommend it if you are pregnant, have heart or lung conditions, or are in general poor health.
