I like this spot a lot! It is located off the main road, the parking is behind the building and you have to drive slow because there are a lot of holes and bumps on the ground! Came on a Monday, there was an option to rsvp to book your spot and pay in advance but we opted not to do that but in person. We were all students so was able to take advantage of the student discounted day pass with the shoes and harness rentals came up to a little over $30? Very nicely maintained climbing gym with tons of options for top roping, they have bouldering and lead climbing as well. They took about 10 minutes to certify us on belaying and a tour of the facility. There are cubbies on the side where you can place your belongings and decently clean restrooms. They also have a gym upstairs that you can utilize as well. Sweet! No time restriction, we came at 5pm and there was just under 10 people in the gym, but got more packed as it got later. Was still able to maintain social distancing though. Staff was super helpful, nice and patient and they all had masks on, took down contact tracing and scanned temperatures. Will be back soon!!

Love Island Rock. I have been climbing here for over 20 years. Staff is great, place is clean. The route setters set awesome and creative routes that are updated regularly. The only complaint is it can get busy on weekends with different groups of people including birthday parties.

On the way to the top!

It was a great experience climbing here. The staff was friendly and made a beginner like myself feel welcome and comfortable. I would recommend this to all. Even if you aren't into climbing the experience is lasting!

Place looks cool. It's not as big as it seems in the pics. The workers are youn and laid back, but know what they're talking about. You can rent shoes there as well as the people supporting you on the ropes when you're climbing. I stayed by the bouldering section. They say they're easier, but for a girl like me lacking that upper body strength, it was hard. Also, there are friends of mine that told me that a level "V0" in Island rock is a level V4 At a rock climbing place in Brooklyn. That's crazy. I've seen kid climbing up these things like they were spiderman! Hahaha! I'd come back and try it again. My forearms upper back and shoulders were KILLING me the day after!!! I recommend coming on a weekday because it isnt as crowded and busy. Coming on a weekend, you'll be wasting your time. Kid's parties are booked up the wazoo on wkends!!! The gym is pretty crappy with their old equiment full of chalk dust and strewn about. I tried to turn on the treadmill...nope! But the place is about the rock climbing. So whatevz.

We came here for a kids' birthday party on Saturday, April 21, 2018 and my 7 year old had a blast! He had been rock climbing a few times before so did not hesitate to get on the wall. My 5 year old was intimidated by such big walls and hesitated to even try. After about 20 minutes he warmed up, got the harness on and attempted to climb up the friendliest wall, which had colorful climbing holds that were in the shape of animal heads or bodies. He wasn't physically strong enough to pull himself up using either his legs or his arms. After a few minutes, he gave up but I was happy that he even tried. Maybe next year we'll try again. There were a good number of walls that the kids could climb and up and down they went until it was time to eat. The Island Rock staff was really helpful and friendly, good with the kids. There is a private room in the back for everyone to have food and cake. Restroom has a changing area. Overall, it was a great birthday party and I'd recommend this place to anyone who has kids that like to climb.

Great place to come for training for climbing. i came here for bouldering and it was great, but not as good as BKB Queensbridge. I didn't try the top roping but it was shorter tahn Gravity Vault and Cliffs at LIC. However, the training area was superb. It had boxing bag, climbing bars, moon board and other great training tools. This place is definitely a great place to come for training. And the price is acceptable: $20 for a day pass.

I have been dying to go rock climbing, and today I finally had the chance to go. When I arrived I had a few options to choose from, such as taking a lesson to having a staff belay for a 1/2 hour to 1 hour. I chose the 1/2 hour staff belay, and thank goodness because I do not believe I would have made it the whole hour. It was such an incredible workout! My instructor Kristie was amazing and so encouraging. I honestly do not believe I would have made it up half the walls, if it was not for her coaching me through it. She was so knowledgeable of the routes, and really helped introduce me to the sport. I can not wait to come back to take a lesson!

Keep in mind that there are other students in the class, but he notices every detail about his students, the breath we take per move/reps (even with masks on), 2) PROFESSIONAL & COMMUNICATIVE - With his keen observation skills, he's quick to correct posture or can tell if we've trained before (I say he's psychic), he also has the ability to tell how we carry our backpacks/or handbags and if they are heavy or not, he will know based on our posture if we are the type who have sedimentary jobs or not and advises on how to autocorrect form. I do value the fact as we work out, he tells us where we should be feeling the burn and why and which part of the body we are working. 3) FRIENDLY & WARM/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS - he doesn't intimidate and he can easily make quick connections to build rapport and trust so as we are working out, he empowers us with confidence we need to push ourselves. He intuitively knows our personal limit as to when we need to be pushed hard and when we need to slow it down. F45 PLAINVIEW 1) I've been to many gyms and worked out with many trainers, but i do enjoy the F45 concept, 45 minutes your in and your out with a sweat. This is a great concept for those individuals who lack discipline in a gym environment. 2) Days are scheduled based on what the functional exercises and which area of the body you will be working (core, upper, lower, cardio, etc). 3) The camaraderie you gain when you attend. I only attended 2 sessions and the members welcomed me with open arms and thumbs up support in a few of the exercises I failed at. We all have a common objective in mind and its just getting through the 45 minutes is where we bond at... then its a great feeling when you see them again the very next day. Although pricey, it's worth it! Let's start off with the amazing customer service I've received. I had the pleasure of meeting Brett. He is a Membership Advisor. He messaged me to see how I was doing and if I had any questions. My very first day as a member he showed me around the the gym from top to bottom, corner to corner. He even offered to take a class with me if I didn't want to take one alone. He is super friendly and funny. He continues to say hello to me BY NAME every time he sees me at the gym. That's amazing that he remembers my name considering how many people he sees and interacts with at the gym every day. Now Christopher (I believe that's his name) works at the shop at the gym where there's clothes, gym bags, and other accessories. When you become a member you get 20% off your first purchase at the shop. So...I took advantage of that! Christopher was patient with me as I looked around the shop. So many choices! Some of their brands run big...so I was happy that I was able to buy a smaller size than I normally would. Christoper helped me pick out some things and even showed me a super comfy sweatshirt. It's a men's sweatshirt...but it's the most comfortable sweatshirt I've ever worn. Comfy and warm! Brian, the manger is also super nice! I had a long conversation with him on my first day at the gym. It was so nice that he took the time out of his day to speak with me. He also greets me by name every time he sees me at the gym. As a new member you get a complimentary Pilates session. I took mine with Jacqueline. The Pilates session is in the studio and it's just you and the trainer. Jacqueline was very patient with me as I've never done Pilates before. She showed me how to use the machines. She also taught me that Pilates isn't just body movements...but it's about your mind as well. Which is very true. We even laughed! Who laughs when working out? That's what I thought. You also get a complimentary personal training session as a new member. I had the pleasure of meeting Tracy. She is wonderful! She understood me and my goals. She was patient and answered my questions. We also laughed a little. Again, who laughs when on an 10% incline and 3.5 speed on a treadmill?? That's what I thought! I felt so welcomed as a new member! Besides the "Welcome" email and "Welcome Packet" I received, I received a hand written welcome card in the mail, and another welcome card in the mail. I can truly tell the Equinox cares about their members. On to the gym... SO many machines for cardio and strength training! I've never had to wait for a machine. One of the things I like about the machines is that they have internet. I've enjoyed watching YouTube videos to get me through my workouts. You can even access Facebook, Google...and a ton of other things. You can sync LoseIt and other apps if you use apps to calorie count or to keep track of your food intake. There's also WiFi at the gym...so you can bring your iPad or other device and watch Netflix as you work out! I am guilty of this! :o) If you aren't sure how to use a strength training machine, don't be scared. During my tour of the gym, Brett mentioned there is always staff on the floor that will show you how to use them! Don't be shy...ask them! Locker rooms... I can't speak for the men's locker room, but the woman's locker room as everything you can think of. Hair dryers, straighteners, razors, tampons, mouth wash, hair gel, shaving cream, shower caps...etc. There's also a filtered water filling station and a digital scale. Everything you can ask for! Now the showers are wonderful. Kiehl's shower products are like a dream. They smell so yummy, and have me feeling refreshed. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and face wash. The showers are nice and hot! AND... eucalyptus towels!!! Smell so nice, especially after a sweaty workout! What are you waiting for?? GO workout at Equinox!

Fellow rowers have also been friendly and motivating without the air of pretentiousness you'll occasionally find at boutique classes... Walking in you'll notice the studio is cleaner than Raffi album, with ample fresh air flowing through and sanitizers located all over. COVID be damned, workouts are happening in this space. Lockers are fairly easy to figure out and will hold your purse, coats, plans for world domination, etc but are not completely necessary to use. The rowing machines are spaced out well so a small workout bag is not too obtrusive in your space. Instructor Kat London was extremely sweet, personable and helpful. She checked up on all the newbies and motivated us without being pushy or cliche. She demonstrated all exercises so we could follow along. You're rowing quite a bit during the 50 min class, but you're also getting a well rounded workout with circuit training. Be prepared -- dead lifts, squats, planks or presses with weights are not out of the question. Additionally, rowing itself is not terribly difficult, however it takes practice to get your form perfect and not rely on your shoulders and lower back to take the brunt of the work. CITYROW is easy to locate in Plainview's most bougie shopping centers, with ample parking among the G-wagons and Tesla's. If you time the class right, you won't have to complete with the Starbucks morning rush crowd. The studio is a little out of the way for me, else I'd probably be re-enacting the Price Eric & Ariel rowing scene in a my head a bit more (after lunking around 8 pound weights of course!)
