The Country Club restaurant has a dining room separated from the bar area by a low structure for nonmembers and members. The bar area has several tables that are specifically for only golf members and their guests. The patio area has a panoramic view of all three ninth holes from the Lake Course Pines and the Valley which is picturesque. . The menu has some creative selections of dishes that are plentiful and very good combined with superb service. My favorite is the 19th hole.

And I believe the designers were Buddy Johnson and Steve Kaplan, A fellow member invited to play recently and I found the round of golf very enjoyable. The course was well maintained and the greens were in very good shape. Other than the fact it was quite cold for a November play, we managed to survive the entire round without any frost bite.

I cut my teeth on this course so I spent a lot of time in the trees. I have to admit also that when I started taking golf seriously 6 years ago, this course was in a lot better shape than it is in now. The geese have had their way with the fairways. I played OB last Saturday and walked on as a single at 11:16. I noticed that they have put up some phony dogs to scare the geese away and they have made an attempt to repair some of the grounds. My favorite hole is still the 17th. At 445 yards this is a spectacular hole that doglegs rights through a narrow run of tall dogwood trees, downhill and back up to an elevated green. Saturday, I hit a perfect drive into the wind that stopped in the middle of the fairway at the top of the slope and at the entrance to that narrow opening. I hit another perfect shot with a 5 iron into the wind, 185 yards and was able to walk down the hill as if the trees were the gallery and they were applauding. I left my put 6 inches short on the slow greens and tapped in for my par. Historically, I either make par or a 9 on this hole. Had I birdied the 18th I would have carded my first round in the eighties, but I bogied after a bad break when my ball was swatted down like Charles Oakley (see what I did there) at the top of a tree. I scrambled hard for my 5 by punching an iron through the trees on the right and landing on the green. As it ended up, I scored a 91, my lowest score ever!

The Northport Golf Course located on the VA hospital grounds or even Smithtown Landing are better options for those wishing to get in a 9 hole game. In fact, if you're a beginner and enjoy playing on actual grass go there or even try the Gull Haven Golf Course. All three are walkable with available carts and the courses are all well maintained.

I had a very bad experience there recently. I was putting and someone was cutting the lawn right around the green I was at. I tried to see if they could stop for a moment. The guy on the mower wouldn't stop. I approached him several times. He would not stop. He proceeded to laugh at me as I was attempting to stop him to ask him if he could stop mowing for a moment it was a joke.
