I came to this laid-back little cocktail bar to celebrate my bday this year. Although located on the basement level, Juke Bar is actually spacious (for a small space), clean, and decorated tastefully. They have a small room in the back separated by a curtain, but with bar access, so you could order your drinks without ever leaving the space. I came here with a group of around 14, and we fit comfortably in the back room. A couple things I didn't love: 1) There was no DJ, or any music with a beat, even though we were here on a Saturday. 2) The air flow was lacking. This is the perfect spot to come to after enduring the muggy disaster that is New York in the summertime. This place is cool in all senses of the word. Came here on a Friday night around 9 while it was on the emptier side (by 10 it started to fill up). I think the best way to describe the atmosphere here is "upscale dive", though the layout is quite different from a true dive. There's nice dimension to this place--a variety of seating options wrap around the bar, so whether you're on a date, catching up with a friend, or with a larger group that just wants to party the night away, Juke Bar has something for you. There's no allure to the cocktails here. Ingredients are pretty straightforward--you won't find yourself inquiring about some rare vermouth that you can't pronounce. And while I do love those types of cocktails, the drinks here are great in their own right. I ordered the Jukebar Maid and the Chatty Kathy, which were both incredibly refreshing. They're served in large mason jars, which adds to the down-to-earth vibe here. I came in here having lost half my foundation due to sweat, so upon first sip, I think I literally did breath a sigh of relief. Of those two, I'd recommend the Jukebar Maid--bourbon, mint, fresh lime and ginger beer. Like I said, not complicated. But sometimes that's just what the night calls for. Overall this place just has a great vibe. As other reviewers have mentioned, the music is on point. I'm the type of person who becomes easily distracted when a great song comes on--much to the disappointment of whoever I'm out with--and this happened plenty here. Bartenders are friendly, the menus are shaped like records, there are fun/kitschy decorations and red neon lights...I'm a fan. There are some under-appreciated bars in the East Village, and this is one of them. Came here a couple weeks ago on a Sunday night with two friends...located in the east village and down a few stairs. It was totally empty which was sort of expected on a Sunday night I guess since we just missed happy hour. The space itself was nice and big- lots of seating. The bartender was decent, and there was cake left over from a party so he offered us some- that was nice. There was also water and solo cups at the end of the bar which I am always pleased with while throwing a few back. The cocktails were simple with only a few ingredients but still pretty good. I had the sexy susie (a mango mojito) and a spicy tequila cocktail. The spicy one was a bit spicy but when he added more simple syrup it was much better. The mango mojito was okay. I found this place on yelp, and was looking for a bar/lounge that would reserve space for no fee - and Juke Bar was perfect! I asked for a reservation for about 15 folks to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday night. I believe I sent an email the Monday of that week, and they told me it was no problem. There's no fee and you can bring your own food! I got there on Saturday around 8:15PM and there were around 10 people at the bar. Noone else had secured reservations that day, so they offered me a private room that has access to the bar. It was a little narrow, but was great for the amount of folks I had invited (it may be tight for larger groups). The bartenders were sweet and the drinks were amazing! I wish I took pictures while I was there, because the bar was pretty quaint and very cute. It's on the lower level, and you might not see it when you first pass by, but I think that adds to why it wasn't excessively crowded(a win in my book). read more

I love this place. The reason why I say that is because this bar really makes you feel right at home. My friend took me here to this bar hyping about the watermelon mojito she ordered last time she was here. I was excited to try this exotic mixture. Of course, it was delicious. If you're one of those unlucky folks who never get out of work in time for normal happy hours (me) then you're about to loveeeee Juke Bar. Their happy hour--from 4-9pm--is all beer, wine, and well drinks for $5. Quickest way to get over a 10+ work day for unlucky folks (again, me). Having said that, Juke Bar is a fairly good time--they have a tiny outdoor patio for nice weather, and a few tables inside. The place is not huge, but if you're lucky to snag a table with your friends, it's an easy way to spend the night having actual conversations where you are not SCREAMING over hoards of other conversations, unnecessarily loud music, or televised sports games that you completely forgot were today. Extra bonus--the side room can be sectioned off for a small private party! So I'll be keeping that in mind for birthdays of unlucky people who never get out of work in time (my birthday). read more

Juke has a lot of potential...It does. The location is a decent size with table seating as well as seating at the bar. They have a decent Happy Hour that runs until 9PM (can't go wrong with a HH that ends much later than other places). We decided to pop in here after being across the street and were surprised that at 5:30PM (they only open at 5) there were still only a handful of people already there. Their beer list is pretty standard but the standout star here are their cocktails. I went with the Juke Barmaid which tasted like a mojito and a margarita had a lovechild. While the cocktails are delicious and strong, the staff is unpleasant and severely unprofessional. The "bartender" that made us our first round of drinks was okay enough but then suddenly decided he didn't actually work there, made himself a cocktail, and took a seat at the bar. The "real" bartender took over and made a Jewish joke that normally most of us would find funny...But he was serving us....At his job. Not cool, bro. They had no hot food that evening even though the chalkboard sign said otherwise. We were allowed to bring food in from outside, though. Popped into Juke Bar on a rainy Sunday night with three friends. The bar was pretty empty and quiet, probably because it was a Sunday. Cocktail, beer, and wine lists are printed onto old vinyls. Most drinks are served in extra large mason jars. I had the Black Mule (vodka, blackberry, lime & ginger beer). It was a little sweet for my taste, but very good. Others had the Mint Fizz (aperol, elderflower liqueur, fresh mint, topped with sparkling wine), Junior Smash (bourbon, cucumber, strawberries, fresh lemon juice, topped with sparkling soda), and the Jukebar Maid (bourbon, mint leaves, fresh lime, and ginger beer). Wow, I had a really good time. Spoke to manager (Will) beforehand and easily reserved a spot for 15 ppl. I went on a Wednesday evening and just my luck, refrigerator stopped working night before (Oi). By the time my entire party came (6pm), they had all fruit cut up and were ready to go! Bartenders were fast and friendly. My party was very satified w/ the service. Regarding the drinks, I like spicy things, so their drinks were right in my alley. The happy hour specials were good too: $9 cocktails, and $6 beer, wine, well. I used to come here when it was blue owl, but i actually like it more as juke bar. I put together happy hours every few months, with an average of 20 guests. It gets hard to find a place that accommodates and allows for separate tabs. Fantastic staff, easy to get a reservation for an area, and no issue with bill splitting because everyone had their tab at the bar. I brought some snacks in to share, then my friends brought in pizza (life saver). It was a hassle free night, and I'm so glad my friends had fun. FYI: there are two single bathrooms. read more

Came here for gf's 21st birthday. Drinks were tasty, and the bar keeps a couple good niche Irish beers and whiskeys. Ambiance is great, staff is great, trivia was fun. 10/10 would come back here. Really nice bar. The REALLY important thing to note is that our bartender Connor was a class act. This man helped us celebrate the birthday in style, was courteous, and helped us later in the night when gf got sick. He was helpful and kind, gave us some food for the bday girl, and helped us call a Lyft home. Without Connor, the evening would have been very difficult. Can't thank him enough. Truly a bro. Juke Bar was kind enough to host my birthday party, on Saturday night, and it was PERFECT. Will booked my table, via email, without any issues. When some of my party arrived before me, the bar checked them in & got them seated, so they didn't have to stand until I arrived. The cocktail menu is well-rounded & the cocktails, themselves, are well-made. I enjoyed a few Junior Smashes (bourbon, strawberries, cucumbers, and lemon), which were refreshing & just strong enough to keep me on my toes. All of my friends loved their cocktails, too. We were allowed to order food in, which is a lovely policy (& very convenient). The bar even loaned us a knife, to cut the cake we brought in. The music wasn't too loud, or too monotone. The crowd was a good mix of ages. The space was clean & comfortable . . . not fancy, but not dive'y, either. All in all, Juke Bar is a place I will return to & will recommend to friends. read more

Let me emphasize how hard it is to find a place in east village that offers a great happy hour menu and allows you to conversate with a friend without screaming at the top of your lungs. They have happy hour everyday until 9pm! I've been here on multiple occasions, once for halloween bar crawl and once on an weekday. Coming here during halloween wasn't that bad, it was crowded, a little bit of the college vibe and definitely popping. Now the real story is coming here on a weekday when I was able to enjoy the ambiance of the place. The lights of slightly dimmed but still allows you to see your friend. I was able to enjoy their delicious whiskey sour (even tho I'm not a big fan of whiskey) in a cute and large mason jar. All your worries just seem to melt away as you're just sitting there. I don't really get all the glowing reviews, this place was SO-SO. Came here on a date and maybe that was why it wasn't so great to me...because the date wasn't so great. Beer selection was alright but my date was so intent on getting Stella. What is it with people in Manhattan and their obsession with drinking sub-par Stella? Came here last night on a Tuesday, so of course it was dead - a few people at the bar, and a couple people at the booths. The place is small so I bet it gets packed on weekends. The Juke Bar is great for grabbing a casual drink or for a pre date drink. Happy hour lasts until 9PM, which is pretty awesome. For $8, you can get a pretty yummy cocktail served in a mason jar. The indoor decor is hip, but the best is the outdoor nook by the door. With a string of fairy lights and cool wooden seating, it's great for the summer as well as warmer winter nights (such as when I visited). Though bar service can be a bit slow (I think there was only one bartender the Friday night I was there), the drinks are definitely worth it. The cocktail menu is on little vinyl records, which fits well with the theme of the bar. I will definitely be back if I'm in the area and highly recommend this bar! read more
