We had such a wonderful experience at Sincerely Ophelia's Tuesday night! Such a cool speakeasy near East Village! Had it not been for BucketList.com, we would not have found it. We booked a mixology course through BucketList.com where the bar tenders taught us the basics of mixology as they apply to all cocktails. They made a variety of cocktails which were given to each attendee for tasting. After a demonstration of each drink, guest were encouraged to step behind the bar and mix one of the three cocktails for themselves using all of the tools and skills that a mixologist would to create. The bar tenders were personable and committed to making sure each guest had a unique experience! I absolutely love the place!! It's a true speak easy of all the bars you've been to. It's very difficult to find because they've done a great job hiding it. The front to this Speakeasy is the Chicken & The Egg. The entrance is to the left side of this place. It looks like someone's house to be honest. Basically, it's just a door with a bunch of portraits on it. The music is great. They play a huge mix of oldies and pop at once. The place is not crowded at all, and I'd love to come back soon. TBH, if it had not been for the Tippler, I would have never thought to come here. The staff is absolutely helpful and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. An okay dive bar in the Union Square area. On a Saturday night it was pretty dead. Despite a loud DJ playing music all night, it felt like more of a chill dive bar to grab a drink. The drinks we got were pretty basic. There's a lot of potential with the space. They have a main room, a second smaller area good for hosting a private hangout and then behind a velvet rope another full room with leather sofas and what seems like a second bar. Unfortunately, no crowd and the few people there were either really young or the 45+ crowd and not much of a mix. The bathrooms had no light switch and not clean. The location is easy to miss as the entrance blends in next to a chicken place. Overall, an okay spot for a basic drink and chill time with friends, but def too loud for a date. Went to my first social party last Thursday on July 24th. The people at the front door were dressed up and super inviting / really kind! Was my first time going to this cool ambiance bar and I for sure would love to go back. The people were fun and especially running into an old friend out of the blue and meeting more people! This place was disgusting. I booked a private room for my birthday, beginning at the 8:30 PM. I get there to set up, and I am not allowed in because there is an event until 9. My event coordinator Nicolette proceeds to ghost me. I paid $650 in advance to apply to the minimum spend. The bartenders had no clue what that was, and my money is now missing. They charged another $809 to my credit card without consent. The manager shoved drink tokens into my hand which did not count towards the minimum spend. Very shady and weird and a total breach of contract. The inadequate coordinator told me we could purchase tacos at the bar. There is no working kitchen at the bar. The venue knew I had a birthday cake and did not have forks to provide for my guests. My guests had to go to Duane Reade across the street and purchase our own utensils. Low budget venue. I cannot stress to never come here enough. When my event concluded we were surrounded by 16 year olds with fake IDs. read more

BEWARE!!!! if booking a group event here. Feel like I need to warn the public about this place. Booked a bday for about 30 guests, I was asked to put down a $360 deposit. Was told if I met my minimum cash bar spend of $1400 that I would receive my deposit back- cool no problem. Night of, things were going ok up until I was told I was nowhere close to meeting my minimum a few hours in. Which was odd considering my friends were spending a lot of money. I was being told different totals by various staff. Ultimately we decided to leave due to lack of trust and safety. By the way- the bar was pretty much empty besides my group of 30. Weeks following, I ask for my deposit back. I humiliatingly asked all of my guests to send me screenshots from their credit card statements which of course proved I met my contracted minimum. This business was about to keep my deposit without even having a conversation with me. They finally agreed to give it back after I followed up 5x and when it was refunded it's missing $50. I asked why, and it's apparently due to a 3.5% credit card fee off the $1400 (even though I never spent that amount on my card) that I was never informed was nonrefundable. Pls save yourself the trouble and book at the 100s of other NYC venues that you can trust. You really are at the mercy of these places doing the right thing with your business. read more

I would not call this bar a speakeasy though. When I went, the bar was playing modern hip hop loudly, which I enjoyed but was not expecting at a speakeasy bar.
