Beards abound at Juke Auto and as far as mechanics go, Juke is the man. Or men, really, since there are multiple manly men working there. I moved to Austin from out of state and immediately needed to find a good, honest, reliable mechanic and feel very fortunate to have found Juke. The guys are helpful, Juke himself is very nice and super knowledgeable and (more importantly) personable. Every time I leave I've learned something new because he likes to explain how and why things on your car do what they do. Yeah, like any place you have to be sure and double check every little thing but I've not had a single complaint yet. I can't ever be too sure when it comes to my vehicle so when I have something I can't do myself I take it to Juke. They always have a decent price or better plus they don't mind breaking down a bill and explaining each item. It's nice. I can't fault their labor costs either. My Toyota was up for its 90K tune-up and with being new to Austin, I was contemplating driving it back down to Houston for a past trust-worthy mechanic. I called two Toyota dealerships here in Austin and experience serious run-around (i.e. call, transfer, transfer, transfer, and then a price estimate can't be given out). I then went on to Yelp to find terrible reviews for both dealerships. I'm so glad I was saved the headache and pain in the pocketbook. Yelp again to my rescue... as I found Juke with a plethora of rave reviews. I called and instantly, not only got a person on the other line but, alas, it was the mechanic (Juke), owner, and the person working on my car! What?!? This is amazing. Oh, and one more thing... he is friendly. I didn't even ask how much it was going to cost because I was so impressed off the bat that I was talking to a friendly, informative mechanic that would be the one working on my car. I was called several times as they diagnosed problems or issues and made me aware of the cost. Their open hours are a bit tough to meet, but it was well worth it. They even stayed open a few minutes later to accommodate me picking up my car from riding the bus. The total was about $250 less than I was expected to pay and he only charged me for .3 hours of labor. He could have easily charged me for the full hour and I would have never known the difference. Today I totally realized why Yelp is so awesome. Without it, I would have never found Juke Automotive. Two months ago, as I was driving my car, my speedometer started spazzing out. Shortly after, my check engine light (CEL) turned on and my D4 indicator started blinking. Uh oh. Almost certainly a transmission problem. It was 10pm and I was far away from home. I called my sister and asked her to get on Yelp and search for a mechanic within a 3 mile radius of my location so that I could get my car towed for free by AAA (I'm a member, woot woot). She quickly found Juke Auto, saw that it had a 5 star rating after 35 reviews, and that it was within 3 miles of my location. I know, I know. I'm lucky as hell (I now know just how lucky). I get my car towed there, and the next day go back to talk to someone. I arrive and find myself face-to-face with Juke himself, and am discussing my car problem with him. He listens well, is super friendly, tells me honestly that my problem doesn't sound good, and asks me to leave the car with him for the day. So I do. A few hours later I get a call and am told the bad news. My transmission needs to be rebuilt because my torque converter is breaking up and spraying all kinds of particles into the different parents of my transmission. It's going to cost $2,300 and Juke wants me to have all the time I need to decide what to do next (junk the car, get the tranny rebuilt, perhaps sell it as a POS to someone who can rebuild trannies on their own). I take the weekend to decide and then call up Juke and let him know to go ahead with the rebuild. 3 DAYS later I get a call and my car is ready to go. Wow. 3 days. Really? To drop out the transmission, rebuild it, and put it back in? Incredible. I arrive to pick up my car and Juke is as friendly as ever and sends me, the happiest post-transmission failure-$2300 poorer-customer he's probably ever seen, on my way. 3 days ago (two months post-transmission rebuild) my car started having a similar problem. The speedometer started spazzing, but the CEL hadn't come on yet and the D4 light hadn't started blinking either. I'm not going to lie. I was super pissed. How the hell could I be having transmission problems again so soon after getting an entire rebuild? I even started to think that I would be the lone 1 star review for Juke on Yelp (silly me). I prayed to myself that my transmission would stay together long enough for me to get back to Juke Auto (15 miles away from my home). It did; but on the way the CEL came back on and the D4 light started blinking. Juke happened to be out of town until next week, so his right hand man Jay was manning the front desk. I explained to Jay the problem my car was having, and he remembered my car from the last time it was in the shop. He explained to me in language that was easily understandable what the potential problem could be. We wouldn't know for sure until he ran the diagnostic. Jay ran the diagnostic and found the problem to be almost exactly what he presumed it would be. My Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) had failed and needed to be replaced. It was not a part they could have known would fail when they inspected my transmission 2 months prior, and for all they know, its failure could have been totally unrelated to my transmission problem. He explained to me that the VSS could have failed at the hands of the prior transmission problem I had. The particles being sprayed into the transmission by the failing torque converter could have acted like sandpaper against the delicate electrical parts (the VSS being one of them) and accelerated the failure of those parts. But there's no saying for sure. Despite not being responsible, Jay fixed the problem for me and ONLY charged me for the part (didn't charge for labor or diagnostic). I saved $250 because of this, and he said it was their way of saying thanks for choosing Juke to do the transmission work 2 months prior. Amazing. They say it's hard to find an honest mechanic. It's even harder to find an honest mechanic who is also truly grateful for their customers and is willing to do everything in their power to communicate that gratitude to their customers. I've found my mechanic for as long as I live in the Austin area. Cliffnotes: Amazingly awesome mechanic who you should take your car to the next time it has any sort of problem (hell, take it there even for routine maintenance/oil changes/whatever else). Juke is a badass and so is his staff and they run a Grade A+ establishment. Not only are they honest, they truly appreciate their customers and will do everything they can to give you the long end of the stick. Take your car here and you will be grateful you did. Jukes is by far the most honest an transparent auto shop I have ever patronized. Everyone there has a warm and friendly attitude (that's a big deal considering how tough a mechanics job can be), and they are very competent. The last time I took my car there, they spent most of the day thoroughly inspecting it, and ended up telling me that I had a few issues but didn't need to worry about repairing them for a long time. That's honesty! If you're a bad person, take your car somewhere else. For all the good people out there, go to Juke's. read more

I was a little skeptical about taking my Escalade EXT to Juke's until I met Juke himself. This guy is a very friendly and honest local businessman. I am very pleased with the work Juke did on my truck. I added on an oil change and tire rotation when I dropped my truck off, and Juke had no problem fitting it in. My truck was fully finished by noon which was a pleasant surprise. The best surprise was the bill. Juke charged me at least half of what a Cadillac dealership would have charged me. He did not inflate the price when he found out I could afford the repairs. I will take all of my vehicle repairs/oil changes to Juke's. When he called to tell me that the truck was finished, I asked him to look at my brakes. He checked them while I was on the phone, and told me I could wait until the next oil change to have the front brakes replaced and the back ones were fantastic. Most other mechanics would have told me to replace them right then to get the money. Juke is an honest man trying to make an honest living. Wow. All the reviews are right. This shop is great! Only one I am going to from now on. A big thing to know: There basically is no waiting room. They will drop you off at a near by coffee shop on deep east 6th st if you're not dropping it off. (Drop you off and pick you up). I'm surprised I didn't see that mentioned in the reviews. So a heads up: Try to just drop the car off if you can. I ended up having a bearing out in one of my back wheels and it only turned out to cost $230. Great stuff. Fair pricing. The labor price was $70/hr. Extremely reasonable. You will most likely meet Juke yourself and he's a good dude. He and his staff all are. These people are amazing! They almost always have my car finished in a day even when I have multiple things to fix. They always help me figure out the cheapest way to do something and will go above and beyond to make it happen. I needed a new side view mirror and they called all over town for a used one. They couldn't find one so they went on ebay and found me a really cheap one! They are very transparent and will tell you the costs of everything ahead of time and double check if it's what you want them to do. They will drive you back to work if you drop your car off. I could go on and on about this place. Everyone who works there is sweet, helpful, and honest. I've never been to a car repair place this good in my life. read more

These guys were awesome. They helped us with a real problem with a catalytic converter. This should have cost a great deal--given the vehicle had two of the outrageously expensive buggers as well as a few oxygen sensors. Trusting mechanics is a tough one for me. But they took the time to carefully explain the problem and they came up with a creative solution. They worked out a fix that saved hundreds and did the job properly. Moreover, they were patient with my frank irritation at having to deal with a potentially expensive chronic problem. On the phone I suspect they overheard a few choice invectives I had directed at the ceiling. After apologizing later I was told "Oh that? Maam, that was nothing!" I feel for them. They may look like hillbillies but they sure know how to fix a messed up vehicle! We'll be back. read more

When you go to a regular mechanic shop with one issue needs to be fixed, you would end up with a huge list of several irrelevant issues which would never be a priority for your car a long time. They did a great job diagnosing the issues correctly, not trying to take advantage of you, providing a detailed inspection report. I found Juke on Yelp and this was easily the best experience I have had with any automotive shop. From my initial call to getting my car back they impressed me. I called a couple days before to see if they could do the work I needed (catalytic converter) and I got a quote from David that was a third of the price two other places had quoted me. Being a skeptic, I asked what was up with that and he said they get that all the time and that they just don't mark them up as much as other places. I brought the car in at 7:30am and the work was done by 12:30pm. I had also asked them to check out my windshield wiper sprayers, and they diagnosed and fixed that as well as replacing my catalytic converter for a total bill less than half what I was quoted from other places for just the cat. Not only did they do great work, but everyone I dealt with was personable and honest. Juke and Hauk came up and introduced themselves, and Jimmy helped me when I came in. The initial quote was correct; no surprises. I had forgotten the sprayers initially and Jimmy gave me a call before they did the work to let me know exactly what was needed and the cost to fix that, and to make sure it was okay to proceed. Ken gave me a ride back home after dropping the the car, and he came over and said hello when I came to pick it up. Everyone was very easy to deal with and I had a great experience. I am trying to get a 1991 Toyota truck repaired. Admittedly, it's a beater, but my sister got laid off two years ago and is just trying to keep it running. I think all that's wrong with it is a fuel filter, but the filter is located above the starter, underneath the intake manifold, and almost impossible to get at unless the vehicle is up on a rack. So I called Juke, and they don't work on anything older than 1996. My two vehicles are a 2005 Ford Ranger and a 2010 Toyota Camry, but I will take them somewhere else too. I will not go anywhere else for service other than Juke Auto for my body work needs. Kudos to this company for providing quality service. My experience: A few months ago my fiance side swiped a pole in his garage (which is very awkward to maneuver). Anyways we researched many different body shops and found Juke had the best reviews. So we decided to give them a call for information. They went above just providing information. They requested photos of the vehicle, and based on those photos they were able to determine the estimate for repair (which was VERY reasonable). So we took the vehicle in for repair and about 3 days later, it was like nothing ever happened. They workmanship exceeded my expectations and was very pleased. Fast Forward a bit and long story short, a guy cut me off and caused me to hit a storm drainage opening in the street which significantly scuffed my wheels. Juke was the first company I called. I went over to the shop this time and they had a look and determined the wheels are repairable! They then offered to have the company they use to make the repair come to their shop and make the repairs on site, or they provided the option for me to save money and go directly through their vendor. Once again I was reminded why I keep coming back to Juke Auto... Their honesty and service is second to none. My truck had an oil leak that got progressively worse over time. I was told by several people they would have to pull the engine for the repairs and it would cost around $2000 for parts and labor. After Juke diagnosed the problem the issue could be fixed without removing the engine! I simply cannot believe I've not taken the time to write Juke a review! On a friend's referral I decided to give ole' Juke a try about a year ago. I've been back to them several times with the different things that has happened with my car. They are honest, don't overcharge and will work with you even if its inconvenient for them. I gave Juke some swords just out of appreciation! They are all very friendly and helpful. So, my recent issue was with my tie rod. Fate has a way of making life... "interesting." I had JUST paid off my car and was on my way to see "The Day of the Doctor" on a cold Austin evening. "Well, wait a second..." says Fate, "That's too much good stuff happening in a row." So there was this invisible yellow waist high pole that one of the buses knocked over on a turnabout by my office (F U Capital Metro!) and blamo! Blown tire and (I didn't know it at the time) bent tie rod. Driving my car around before going to Juke's felt like I was on a seesaw or a boat. It was kind of fun (that is, scary as shit) to drive. After Juke's magic touch, it's been smooth sailing from then on. After getting a $2K estimate on repairs from my local dealership, I said enough. I went on Yelp and started looking at other auto shops that worked on Prius and had good reviews. I found this place and sent them a Yelp message to get a price on certain things. Not only were they cheaper than the most places I contacted, but they answered my message within a few hours. Once I got the prices via Yelp, I called them and talked about bringing it in. I scheduled the appointment and was able to get in pretty fast. Once I dropped off the car, the folks were super courteous and let me know that my car would be within 4 hours, but that they would call me if it was going to take longer. LEGIT! Never in my life have I had this level of solid customer service along with top notch workmanship. Talking to the guys there whether it's Juke, Donnie, or Robert, it's like you're talking to one of your buddies you've known for years. With my experience and from what I observed with the other customers, Juke is friendly, honest, down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and does a great job of explaining the how and why of car issues. I took in the RX-8 to get the AC diagnosed and fixed after being told by the Mazda dealership the compressor had a hole in it. Always get a second opinion and I'm glad we did. Because the AC lines are buried in a RX-8 it might've taken awhile to diagnose so Juke even offered to drop me off at a coffee shop to wait it out. Class act! I declined and thankfully after a short wait, Robert (owner of several RX's and THE guy for the job) figured out it was actually the condenser. Whew what a relief. They had it finished by the end of the same day and saved me a lot of dough. My hat's off to Juke Auto and the crew there. Whether you got American, German, Japanese, etc, they got the right guy for the job. Super friendly folks and honest. My jeep cherokee made a knocking noise at idle and was throwing a cylinder misfire code. They replaced the spark plugs and one of the fuel injectors. The problem did not go away. After 3 days of diagnosing they could not get to the bottom of the issue. They cncluded it was an issue with the motor and should I take it to the dealership for more detailed check. They ended up not charging for any parts they replaced ! Taken my truck here 3 times. Each time I am more and more impressed! First time I explained there was a leak into the cab of my truck when it rained. They fixed the back window after seeing that its a common complaint and issue online. Problem solved. Second time another blinker went out... like the fifteenth and after replacing it again myself it still didn't work and I was thinking there was something electrical wrong with it. Within a minute they called to say they fixed it so I went right back and picked it up. Third time I had this weird problem where my radio would turn on inside my truck at any time of day. So like truck is parked outside and I could hear music playing. I open the door and it turns off. Totally made me think of that old scary movie Christine where the car is possessed! Anyway, the tech analyzed the problem and discovered some ignition component broke. It wasn't like a piece we could just buy. He took it all apart and soldered everything the right way. (I think he said he had to use 4 soldering irons at once or something insane.) Anyway, imho these guys are AMAZING. They know cars like I know....? apples? lol. Well they know more about cars than I know about any one item. I recommend them. I even have my friends come here now. One had a Suburban with issues. (LOTS of issues.) I wish every shop was like Juke Auto - Wow! I was having issues with my truck and took it into Juke after a friend suggested them to me. I couldn't get a straight answer from multiple other shops but I had a general idea of what was going on... that's when I landed at Juke. They were very busy when I arrived, so I had to leave it there and get to work...They called me later that day (within a few hours) and walked me through the repairs that needed to be made and answered any questions I had. They also offered me a ride to my office as well as a ride back to pick up my vehicle. It's really hard to find good quality customer service like this anymore... I took my little mazda truck to a chain brake shop on slaughter lane to get a quote on my front brakes. After an hour they told me it would be around $350. They reluctantly put my truck back on the ground and let me drive off knowing full well they were trying to rip me off. I headed over to Juke Auto based on these yelp reviews. This is amplified due to a confusing issue that was resolved easily due to Juke's desire to do the best job possible and provide excellent service to his customers. Writing a 5 star review for Jukes is like bringing sand to the beach and yet here I am writing one, but honestly, they're just that good. What I appreciate most is that I can trust everyone I talk to at Jukes. I recently had a problem with my cars AC that was very difficult to fix. After the first few culprits were addressed and the problem persisted, Jukes started going out of pocket to fix the problem. They weren't satisfied with less than great results. Here's the short of it...we ended up paying them $800 and our car came back on worse shape than we had dropped it off in. Long story: We were given a 1998 Toyota from my mother in law. Everything was running ok on it, but a check engine light had come on and the inspection was due on it soon. They couldn't figure out why the light was on and somehow made another light come on too. When they told us the labor was at $800, we told them to stop working on it. My boyfriend was so beaten down, he couldn't even stand to talk to them anymore. This second light never turned off, even when the car was off and eventually killed the battery. We couldn't even jump the car because the car alarm started going off when the battery had enough charge. I had been taking our newer car there, but will never return. They really f-ed us over and we're out a car and $800. read more

Miguel took the time to explain everything to me. My jeep stopped working during the pandemic so I towed it to a mechanic a few months ago only to be told I needed to replace my entire clutch system. I just had it replaced in 2018 and didn't drive it in 2020 so I couldn't get myself to fork over $1500. When I explained this to him, he said he drove his car into a new clutch kit after 2 years. I never so much as rev my engine so I knew this was bs. Was hoping he'd look at other possibilities but that didn't happen. I had my friend look at it, he said I just needed the clutch system bled. I saw the great reviews at Juke so I called and spoke to Miguel about it. He was so thorough and explained he'd be happy to do that for me. $100 later and my jeep is good as new. AMAZING!! I found Juke Auto on Yelp and can affirm that their 5-star reviews are right on. I took my 2010 Toyota Prius to them seeking a second opinion after the dealership told me I needed a $4000 repair (a new transmission). Miguel and his technician at Juke were able to diagnose and fix the problem (not related to the transmission, by the way) for less than $700. It's a week later, and my car is running like new. I failed my safety and emissions inspection due to sensors. I showed up to juke auto and talk to a gentleman named Bo. Really nice guy and gave me some solid advice on what was needed for my car. I was not able to stay to get the service because I have a jam packed day but Bo made me feel really confident with the process of getting my sensors fixed and passing my test. 10/10 would recommend for quality of service and straight up friendliness I've been here several times in the past few months for various problems, and every time the guys at Juke have taken the time to explain the issue to me in depth and offer advice on what to do. They've done this over the phone, through email, and in person without fail. I'm clearly not experienced with car maintenance, but they've never tried to push me to pay for extra unnecessary services and are very real about the needs and timeframe for future service on my car. They even took the time to show me how to check and refill my oil because my car has a leak! From what I can tell, they charge less on parts and medium/more on labor (still much less than a dealership). I got a quote from another auto shop to replace my struts (which Juke actually told me would be nice but was an unnecessary expense for now), and the other shop couldn't match Juke's price, even after liberal discounts.
