After a few hours of pickleball play with my daughter, I had a craving for an Acai Berry Smoothie. Juice It Up! (JIU) came to mind. Unfortunately, the JIU on Hill Ave has permanently closed. So I had to look for the next JIU on our way home. The Upland location was it. Shop was bright and clean. Staff was friendly. I knew exactly what I wanted which was my large 32 oz Acai Berry Smoothie. I was looking forward to my smoothie, but was slightly disappointed after taking the first slurp. It was icier than expected. Maybe they added more ice than usual. I shared half of the smoothie with my daughter. It was plenty for the both of us. I don't know if I'll be back since I prefer my smoothie to be smooth and not icy. Maybe they'll make it better next time. I'll see. I came here with my sister; we always get the raw juices but today we gave the Ever green smoothie a try for the first time. We realized later it has yogurt. We also added ginger as we both really enjoy it in almost anything. We came late in the day where there was no large crowd which is always nice for the customer--perhaps not for the business. Customer service was nice and the prices are reasonable--for the large Ever green it came to $7.25 for a large and a medium for $5.25. When we left, I asked my two girls if they noticed how rude the cashier was and they both said "yes, she was terrible. She just looked at you when you said hello." I have worked in the restaurant industry for about 12 years. I know it's not that difficult to be pleasant. A simple "hi" or a "what can I get for you" or even a smile goes a long way. I come here very often considering it's a few blocks from my job. I've had nothing but good experiences but today I was running late to work and wanted to pick up a bowl for breakfast. I called and asked if they accepted phone orders and they continued to get my order and give me an estimated time for pickup. When I walk in, there are two girls who looked so miserable at their job. I get it we all have bad days but as a customer, their personal life has nothing to do with their interactions with customers. They both seem irritated that I was ordering something. I was unable to obtain their names but my receipt has a name of Liz R. My bowl was good but it was lacking toppings, it only had granola. Their chalkboard wall isn't even filled with ads or cute sayings like other stores I've been to. This place is not well kept, you can tell right when you walk in. Wow, I am really disappointed. All the bowls in pictures I'd seen were beautiful. My bowl was average (tasted like lime sherbet, and consistency for a bowl was too liquidey), it looked good but that was about it. Two people were working and they both looked pissed off each time a customer walked in. I was expecting a cute, fresh aesthetic inside, and instead it looked exactly like a generic jamba juice. The worker who took my order disappeared to the back and another employee asked me what I wanted, after I had already placed my order with the girl who disappeared. There was a lot of attitude when dealing with the new employee who was not friendly or welcoming. She then proceeded to make my bowl and itch her eyes with her bare hands before proceeding to pour my smoothie in the bowl with her bare hands that had just itched her eyes. When I entered the establishment, no employees were present at the registers, they were in the back probably cleaning or something. I waited for about 4-5 minutes until one employee noticed I had been waiting to be helped. She was extremely apologetic and felt bad that I had been waiting so long! She kindly upgraded my drink to a larger size free of charge to make up for the inconvenience. THAT is good customer service and her kindness made my day.
