I like that this place stays open late, because all I wanted was some food and nothing is ever open past like 10pm in the suburbs. For a thursday night, it was pretty full. They were polite to us even though we weren't Korean and they were like almost surprised to have to speak English to us. Their English is a bit broken, but communication is not troublesome and they are polite. There are call buttons at tables, so there's no way to be neglected by the servers. The interior is dimly lit, but it looks nice. I like the dividers between parties, though nothing's there to wash out the loud squeals from loud tipsy Asian girls... Unfortunately everything on the menu is super overpriced. We were going to grab a drink but ended up not. The food tasted good, though it's nothing special - a lot of easy dishes that go well with alcohol. For the portion and quality it's too expensive. It's not like the drinks are cheap, either. It's a nice late night option to keep in mind, I guess, but for that money I could probably go somewhere closer, less expensive, and more unique. read more

Went to get some late night Korean snacks and a pitcher of beer. It's a trendy place with modern decor. Ordered a pitcher of Heineken and two snack dishes: Jurang ddukbokki and fried chicken wings. The ddukbokki was better than average, although I found it overly sweet and was pricey at $20. Chicken pieces were well prepared and tasty. Soon after we sat down, we were served a egg stew in a small stone pot and some Korean dry crackers to share. The booths are private and noise level is just right. Service is attentive, especially if you use the electronic bell on each table. Since it was late at night and there is limited parking in the front of the strip mall, we had to park in the back, which is not well lit. If you're looking for some Korean street food/snacks in a cozy setting, give this place a try. It's not cheap but you get a nice atmosphere and plenty of time to hang out. read more

Mostly go to shoot pool and have drinks but have tried a couple of their chicken dishes n I liked them. Especially with the dduk (rice cake) in it!! Garlic chicken was our fave! Also tried the pajun (seafood pancake). I found it a bit on the greasy side. Also tried their gizzards! I love foods like that so I enjoyed it. Right amount of flavor n chewiness!! Would like to go n try a few more things off the menu. One other thing I liked about this place is the call button at each table. (A lot of Korean restaurants have these). Nice venue for a night of entertainment. The location has pool tables, karaoke bar and multiple tv screens to keep you entertained. We had scallion chicken and some noodle dish. I had a great time here singing karaoke with friends. Their snacks are great and you can be as loud as you want. Song selection is great, the snacks and alcohol will keep coming in. The one thing they won't tell you is that they will automatically charge you per hour for using the karaoke room- which seems standard. It's good because they won't bother you, but it's also bad if you don't know that time is going by pretty quickly and $200 later you're surprised. read more

I just came back from ju rang with my husband and food was just soso. We order fried chicken, corn cheese, and seafood tang. Chicken was just ok. Not so special. Corn cheese... last time it was so good corn was very sweet and tasty but today's corn was blend actually no flavor. Maybe they used unsweetened corn instead of sweet corn. Seafood tang was ok. But not the best. Overall... today was 3 stars. I like the deco of the restaurant however table was pretty low in my opinion. Not sure but will be back dunno when. read more

This place has potential and I liked the setting a lot. The nice private booth areas are great when you're here with a group of friends. I also like that you can buzz when you'd like the server to come so that way they're not all in your face but when you need them they can come. Great, unique concept! Some things were hit and miss here for me. I liked the squid pancake. It wasn't crispy and a bit soggy but it tasted very good and I liked the fresh green onions in there. Definitely one of my more favorite dishes of the night. We also ordered the kimchi fried rice without the spam. The menu describes it as fried rice with spam and cheese. Unfortunately, the fried rice didn't have spam but it had pork in it which was not on the menu. Three of us are vegetarians in the group so accidentally eating a piece of pork wasn't a good thing for us. We asked the server about it since it's not listed in the menu and he wasn't apologetic about it or willing to give us a new order of rice. It was more of a "this is what we do and you have to deal with it attitude". I can understand that attitude if it's listed on the menu but it's not listed on the menu and there's a decent number of vegetarians in Cook County so I think it was irresponsible and rude to not put it on the menu or to make the situation better once it was addressed. We are paying customers who can't eat something we paid for, I think that is ridiculous when it's not our fault. We also ordered the kimchi cheese fries. I liked the kimchi and fries but the cheese sauce was gross to me. I hate cheese sauce like that (the gooeey, melted cheese in nachos). It just tasted odd to me and didn't go well with the pure flavors of the kimchi. Lastly, we ordered the Nakji Bokkeum which was the octopus stir fry with vegetables in a spicy red pepper sauce with a side of noodles. This was my favorite dish. The sauce was delicious, perfect balance of sweet and sour. Also, there was a healthy portion of vegetables. There seemed to be too much of the noodles, but can't really complain. Overall, this place is alright but I don't really plan on going back again after their lack of carefulness regarding the what is listed on the menu. Ju Rang has been a favorite among my friends and family, and it's been great to see them continue operations during these times. However, the last visit was disappointing in many ways. the good: - outdoor seating is available in front of and behind the restaurant. recently, the indoor seating has been opened too, I believe. outdoor seating is tented and walled with plastic, so no worries about strong sunlight/rain - staff wears masks! tables outside are pretty distanced. we felt safe dining there (outside) - each person is given disposable plates, bowls, cups, and chopsticks. some dishes come out in the normal bowls. others came split among small disposable bowls - the buttons typically found on the indoor tables have been placed on the outdoor tables as well! very convenient for ordering, especially when staff is inside and you are dining outside - they bring each person a cup of white radish that comes with the chicken. this was a nice touch to avoid having everyone dig their chopsticks into the same bowl - food still tastes great the disappointing: - due to strong winds and no water on the table, my styrofoam cup flew away onto the floor. I asked our server for a new cup and he looked extremely annoyed - the menu has become pretty limited. some of the dishes that my friends and I enjoyed ordering in the past was not on the menu when we were there last weekend. the menu is a two-sided, large sheet of laminated paper. if youre planning on going to get a particular dish, I would recommend calling in advance to make sure it is still offered. the menu on their website/yelp is NOT updated - my friends and I noticed that their serving sizes seemed smaller. the tteokbokki was the same (thank goodness), and I'm assuming the chicken portion was the same as well. however, everything else we ordered seemed smaller/less than usual. this could be due to the fact that some menu items come in the disposable bowls. maybe it's a mind-game - when I pressed the call button to ask for more water, the server, again, looked VERY annoyed. we only asked for more water once, so I'm not sure if we drink more than the average customer or if he was not having a good day. the only time we felt welcomed/respected was then he said "thank you" as he handed me the bill for our meal - there was one other table besides us that evening, but as soon as we got the check, the server started picking up our plates and utensils. we were there to catch up before a friend relocated to a different state, but we felt very rushed to leave the table FYI: - even if you are not planning on consuming alcohol, please bring your ID!!! one member at our table did not have his ID so none of us could order alcohol read more

All chicken variations excellent. Dduk boki just spicy enough for Asians... non-Asians be warned. Spicy escargot with cold noodles - a must try. Semi-private booths and partitioned larger tables are cozy enough for your special group event. Haven't tried the karaoke rooms but they are next on my list. Not sure what happened but sadly the food quality has severely declined while prices remain high. The portions are small and they seem stingier with key ingredients in popular dishes. We stopped in for dinner based on reviews and walked out. The semi private booths were nice but we were put off by the loud music and the utter lack of hospitality. No one greeted us upon entry and there were no customers on a weekend night, which were the first strikes. The third was the indifferent dude that sat us then proceeded to drop off the placesettings and menus at the end of the table and didn't bother to welcome us, much less take a drink order. My boyfriend and I ordered the sweet garlic ddukbokki and braised pork ribs. Both dishes tasted so fresh and savory. The rice cakes in the ddukbokki tasted so soft and fresh that I believe they make them in house; I'm usually used to most places using frozen ones, which make them super chewy. The meat on the pork ribs was so tender and juicy that it fell right off the bones! I gave them four stars instead of five because the price with their freshness and taste is understandable, but they gave such little portions in both dishes. I wish they gave more. I saw some reviews on yelp that two dishes here was more than enough for two people, but maybe my boyfriend and I were really hungry or eat a lot...? In any case, we had to eat ramen back home in order to satiate our hunger. So I recommend ordering three dishes for two people. read more

During the coronavirus shutdown, the online order page was still up and running. I paid for an item online and drove all the way to this place to pick up my order, only to find this place CLOSED!!! Then they simply canceled my order far after my pickup time and shut down the entire chownow site. How convenient! Nowhere on google, their website, chownow site, their instagram or even their voicemail had they indicated their closing. Why leave your chownow online order site up and running if you're closed? Why not leave a short comment somewhere or voicemail to inform the customers of your unfortunate circumstances surrounding the closure so the customers wont have to make futile attempts at picking up the order? It shows how unprofessional and how little they care about customers still remembering them and showing up during this pandemic crisis. I love their food, but I have always felt their service overall is underwhelming and needs some significant improvement. This whole series of events was disappointing to say the least. read more

Prices are a bit up there, but the food is legit. we had the cornmeal chicken wings. The awesome bro waiter was very accommodating to bring some hot sauce on the side pro bono. also Chicken Gizzard! don't be afraid. they are awesome drunk food. and come with huge Garlic and Onion chunks that are surprisingly mild. In a world where fried chicken is all the rave, Jurang tries to be different by grilling/baking chicken. And it works. Fantastically well, might I add. I won't go as far to say that it's healthy given the copious amounts of sauce one can get slathered all over the chicken...and it still gets crispy (albeit fried chicken will remain the champion of the crunch). The Garlic Grilled Chicken is fantastic, with a sauce that's not too sweet but definitely garlicky. The ddukbokki is spicy and mouth watering, and the budaejjigae brings me back to my childhood. The food is great here, and service is really fast the few times I've gone. The decor is also quite nice. Each table feels much more private due to the higher walls and the black semi-transparent shades that split tables. Definitely a good place to go with a date, but its still good for groups of friends. It's bigger than you'd expect too - the front is the main dining area, but the back houses a billiards room and a bar. Dark wood all over. Jurang is definitely a place worth checking out if you're looking for a new Korean bar to eat and drink at. read more

As with most Korean places in the Chicago area, I'd recommend coming here with a Korean-speaking person. This place is tucked away in a little strip mall, but do not be fooled -- the food is really good (albeit a bit on the pricey side). My friends and I split three whole chickens in three flavors: BBQ, garlic, and corn. The corn one was a bit *too* spicy for my liking, even though we had requested a medium level of spiciness. Also, if you love elotes like I do, do yourself a favor and get the corn cheese! It's basically corn covered with melted cheese and a variety of other spices; delicious! Also, the strawberry soju is surprisingly good and sweet. The interior is all dark and divided into little booths. Sort of dramatic and ominous... I felt almost like a vampire. But in case this vampire got cold, the booths also provided lap blankets! Bonus for the button that summons a waiter right away. read more

If you're looking for some privacy while enjoying Korean bar food, this is a place to visit. It reminded me of places that I used to visit while attending college in LA back in the 90's. My three friends and I were out for a girls night and got the first booth when you walk in (we even had the option of closing curtains if we wanted). One of my friends frequents the place so she picked out the items off the menu including garlic chicken, green onion chicken, beef salad, dduk bokee (spicy rice cakes) and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are made from Asian sweet potatoes which are a little denser than orange colored sweet potatoes. They're cut like matchsticks and are not greasy, which we all loved. The beef salad had bulgogi (marinated meat) with a lightly dressed salad with grapefruit and jalapenos (be careful if you don't like spice). The garlic chicken had whole cloves of roasted garlic with a soy-sauced sweet sauce and a sprinkling of green onions. The green onion chicken had pieces of chicken that were more in a tangy lemony (citrus?) sauce and then was covered with thin slices of lightly dressed green onions. The dduk bokee had nice chewy pieces of rice cake in a sweet and hot red pepper sauce (beware...the heat builds as you eat it). We were looking for something sweet to end our meal, and ordered flattened rice cake with I think a sweet sesame filling. Definitely a great place to enjoy a beer or soju with friends and the best part was calling our waiter with a doorbell so that we could converse without being disturbed. read more

This place opened up maybe a month ago, and is another addition to the "suburban Koreatown" area in Glenview. It's got a similar menu to Ssaboo and DMZ, but the decor is swanky. Seriously, it's sooooo nicely decorated inside. And the ladies' bathroom is swanky too, with a full length mirror and a stool to sit on, in case you've had too much soju. The prices on the menu reflect this fancy decor I think, because for $15 for 8 fried drumsticks is a bit hefty. The ddukbogi was good, typically cooked with hard boiled egg, fish cake, carrots. And the dduk was perfectly chewy. We had their pomegranate soju, it was just okay. This place is easy to pass by on the street, since the sign on the building is all in Korean. There is a tiny little neon sign in the window that says "Ju-Rang Fusion Grill", but that's it. If you're tired of Ssaboo and DMZ, try out this place, but beware of the higher prices. The food here is amazing. Most of the menu is korean bar food. The highlights for me are the cheesy ddukbokki (adding cheese is a must), garlic chicken, and the scallion chicken (pa-dak). You also get a free steamed egg dish as an appetizer. Love coming here to feast on some chicken & cold beer with friends. One tip: Remember this is Korean bar style, so the servers won't come to check on you unless you press the "call" button at the end of the table. read more

We had the spicy cornmeal chicken, garlic chicken, and the ddukbbokki. All were alright but not outstanding. I actually enjoyed the spicy cornmeal because it's fried and it has that very unexpected kick. The garlic chicken on the other hand tasted like they just put garlic as teriyaki sauce and baked it. They have no indication saying that kids are not allowed. No signs on the outside that say "kids not allowed Monday thru Friday". I brought our entire family and they said we would have to take our order to go (at 5pm on a Wednesday night). Seriously? They also said we would be available to eat during breakfast and lunch hours with our kids, but not dinner. Their website and Yelp both state that they don't open til like 4pm. So... My thought of this place has just gone to crap. I've been here countless times in the past, but won't be bringing my business back here. Sure, I get that it's a "alcohol house" (literal Korean translation) but we would have eaten and been gone before 8pm.
