Bangin'. The patrons? The absolute correct gender. The absolute wrong age. It was like somebody had loaded a bus with attractive women, driven it forty years into the future, and dropped everyone off for lunch. This was not a dating pool. This was a retirement community with better handbags. The room had the unmistakable hum of people who own property, have opinions about calcium supplements, and say things like, "We've been meaning to get back to Naples." Then Miriam arrived. Sweet Jesus. Miriam was exceptionally easy on the eyes, but she also had the rare and dangerous ability to explain the menu as if she were presenting the tasting notes at some absurdly expensive French restaurant where the chef has only six tables and unresolved childhood trauma. She didn't say, "This is pizza." No. She gave you the lineage of the pizza. The motivation of the pizza. The emotional state of the pizza.
