Helpful in steering me in the right direction with the large menu. Ended getting a pastrami hero. Pastrami was really lean but not dried out. Well I wasn't to sure about coming here when my boyfriend suggested it. Walked in and was blown away about how huge the menu was and how fresh everything looked. Definitely don't judge a book bye it's cover. Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese is to die for omg I couldn't stop eating it. Love the chicken wrap was great not soggy at all. Love the peanut butter freshly made cookies. Bathroom is old and gross but this place is amazing. Meatball calzones are so good and packed with cheese meat and sauce. Chips are good. Great options for children no changing tables though. Highly recommend this place I've been back more then 6 times. Staff is great friendly and willing to help with what ever you need plus they give you pickles with your sandwich's and they r amazing. I just witnessed the guy behind the counter open up a sandwich that was packaged and proceeded to place the meat that was in the made sandwich, in a new tin to place it in the microwave for my sandwich. I'm kind of grossed out right now. I work in the restaurant industry and you do not re-open food previously made for someone else and use it for a new order. It was pretty obvious. I love coming here for lunch for a delicious, warm sandwich. I have tried a multitude of different sandwiches and always go back to the buffalo chicken 'The Graduate' or The Pilgrim with crispy chicken instead of turkey breast since I don't really like deli meat. The bread always taste so fresh and is super airy and the sandwich is put together perfectly. They also have a rewards program and once you get 100 points you get a free sandwich. I want to say the sandwiches are priced pretty good and competitively but I won't get the sides because they seem higher than i would like to pay for them besides the eggrolls which I have an utter weakness for--especially the buffalo and the spinach feta. They are delicious and perfect bite sized snacks. I can never only have 2. My only suggestion to make them better is have a better system of heating them so they would be crispy rather than microwaved. J's offers a wide variety of sandwiches and they will often customize the sandwiches any way you want. I came here a few months ago & was able to order a sandwich on GF bread (was told at the time that they typically have GF wraps too, but they were just out that day). Awesome. Today, I came in and asked for the same, but was rudely told they don't have any GF sandwich options (bread or wraps). When I mentioned that they had them a few months ago, I just received a blank stare. After a very long pause, the cashier finally said they could probably do any sandwich just without bread. I had to get out of line and reassess my options, then ordered a chicken salad sandwich over lettuce. This + a small bag of chips ran me over $10. I ordered well before 12pm with just a few people in front of me, but it took over 25 minutes for my order to be ready. In the end, my meal came in a tiny salad container & consisted of hardly any meat, haphazardly thrown over iceberg lettuce with 3 slices of American cheese...and I had asked for no cheese. With over 30 people now waiting for food, sending it back wasn't even an option, and I left very disappointed -- probably for the last time. read more

I ordered some iteration of the philly cheese steak and was not excited by my sandwich at all. Aside of being enormous it was not tasty at all. Not really sure what people see in J's. Everyone at my office loves it. Sure, you get large sandwiches, lots of options, etc. Service is efficient and friendly though, despite large lines during lunch (call ahead!). However, the sandwiches aren't really anything special. Some of them are flat-out weird, others not true to the sandwich style (cheesesteak with mayo, what's up with that?). I wouldn't go back here on my own. I work across the street from J's, so I'm a frequent visitor for either lunch with a coworker or dinner to bring home. The sandwiches here are fantastic. The menu is huge - they have a great variety of meats (cold cuts, chicken salad, fresh grilled chicken), cheeses, bread and toppings. The menu is really inventive and they have plenty of options for both vegetarians and carnivores. Some of my favorites are the Mediterranean wrap (hummus, lettuce, olives, feta cheese) and the Taj Mahal (special sandwich with curry chicken salad). The salads are decent though not out of this world. The staff are friendly and helpful and make the sandwiches quickly. I try to avoid going there between noon and 1 pm because it's generally mobbed. Overall I'd highly recommend J's. Fresh ingredients + cool menu = local gem. read more

I used to go to J's Deli in Woonsocket all the time before I started working near Boston. Now that I'm working back in Rhode Island, I have rediscovered my love for this delicious sandwich shop! I was so excited yesterday when the guys in the office announced they were making a J's run for lunch. I was swamped at work and couldn't deal with another work cafeteria lunch. I got my husband's usual, the Final Exam, which is an exquisite combination of roast beef drenched in Cattlemen's BBQ sauce, muenster cheese and sauteed onions on a torpedo roll. This sandwich is huge and arrived just as I was heading into my manager's office for a conference call (luckily he ordered a J's too and I could scarf it down during the call). Lucky for my husband, the sandwich is huge and I had plenty left for him to eat before leaving for a long weekend hiking trip. J's is fabulous for lunch on the run (well, you can't run or drive eating these behemoth bites) or a deli dinner. The menu is insane and you will never get bored! Prices are way too high for the garbage they serve. Don't order any of the hot sandwiches -- they only seem to have microwaves so the meats end up rubbery and wet. They also seem to only use the old cafeteria style chicken cutlets. Their cold subs are 50% lettuce and no better then you'd get at any average deli--just 50% more expensive. I've been here a few times now, but I've learned my lesson. The final straw was today's Cuban that was just a pile of soggy bread. I'd recommend going up the street to the beef barn or out to Supreme in Cumberland for better food and better value. read more

Although all 4 locations are owned and run by the same guy, I figured the Woonsocket location needs something nice about them too. As with the others, this deli offers the best sandwiches hands down locally. They are always stuff with an abundance of food and vegetables on a huge piece of bread. Good luck trying to finish some of the regular size subs in one sitting. My favorite is "The Graduate." This sandwich is made up of 2 pieces of buffalo chicken fingers, 3 pieces of bacon, blue cheese, and regular cheese. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. J's is well known for their sandwiches because not only are they some of the best, they are so unique, and over 30 to choose from. Sides such as the occasional Shepard's pie, American chop suey, fries, jalapeno poppers, and the best shake of your life (only in the summer) are offered here too. After all that good, J's did however lose one star for the price. $8 for a full size sandwich, ($5 for a half) and $3-6 for all the sides is a little steep for sandwiches. The J's in Woonsocket is convenient to my work and my coworkers eat there often. I typically bring my lunch but on a day that I forgot to bring one, I decided to try this local deli out. I decided to call them a head of time to minimize my wait time and ordered the veggie lovers wrap. This wrap consists of falafel on a wrap of your choice with veggies, hummus, and tahini sauce. When I arrived I only had a small wait and was greeted by a friendly staff person who informed me that my falafel was going to be out of the fryer in a minute. I paid (around 7$ for the wrap) and received my sandwich shortly after. The space is pretty big and open with the sandwich names and descriptions listed on the wall. They have a variety of bottled drinks for sale and I believe they also had fountain drinks. I brought my wrap back to work with me and enjoyed every bite. I ate the entire thing but it was definitely filling to the point that I probably should have saved the second half for later. I will definitely eat there again in the future and can see why my coworkers are so adament about how awesome this place is. read more

Haven't been to J's in years, but went there with my boyfriend today for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised with how HUGE the portions were... and how delicious it was! Great prices for the quality. Has to be one of the best sandwich places in the area, if not the best. Been going here for years. My go to sandwich is the Pilgrim, which is basically an entire thanksgiving meal in a sandwich. But they have so many awesome sandwiches to choose from that picking just one is nearly impossible. The place itself is pretty simple. The prices are reasonable when you consider the quality and amount of food you're getting. This is my first time here and the food is mediocre. The first thing that really caught my eye is the wall of microwaves that they have. There had to be at least eight microwaves up on a platform connected to the wall. With that being said I decided to get a cold sandwich the bread was a very hard on the outside kind of crunchy ish on the inside. The quality of the meat was fantastic but the sandwich did not have a lot of meat in it. Also they have a large list of sandwiches that you order by name I forget the one I ordered but it did not have what was listed on the menu on the sandwich. I will go back and give this place another chance but the microwave wall scared me and I will only eat cold sandwiches. Went on Saturday afternoon about 2:15pm there was myself and one other person who walked in just before I did. No one else in the restaurant 4 staff members behind the counter. We both stood there for a couple minutes the other person commented to me "I guess we must be so thin they don't see us." I walked out I figured if they don't want my money Subway up the street does. Went to subway, unbelievable customer service totally WOW what a different experience. As soon as I walked in"Welcome to Subway" Maybe J's Deli needs some customer service training. This is the first time I have been back since they were closed. It was so much better before not sure the closing and hiring new employees helped. My plain roast beef had many other items like tomato seeds and onion that are from unwashed knives most likely. Or maybe it fell out of the stuff that is on the scale. Got the portfolio and split it, only noticed there was no bacon when we were almost finished. Spoke with them about it and they say they can give it to me on the side....I said that's no good when Ive almost finished the sandwich, why would i just want a side of bacon?
