Usually J's is very good but it definitely wasn't on my last visit. I got the skipper and a steak and cheese eggroll. The skipper is fried cod with extra melt sharp American cheese, lettuce, tomato and tartar sauce. This was absolutely horrendous. It was beyond obvious that the cod was pre made, battered and frozen like the kind you can buy at a grocery store but worse. Gortons brand even blows this one out of the water. This sandwich had way too much cheese and tartar sauce which leads me to the worse part of the sandwich, the tartar sauce. It was disgustingly sweet like it had been made with sweetened condensed milk. J's should never attempt a fish sandwich again, you can get much better at a fast food restaurant for half of the price. The skipper is most certainly a skipper in my book. I also had one steak and cheese eggroll at a whopping $3.49. It was actually in a spring roll wrapper so I'm not sure why they're trying to pass it off as an eggroll. It was way below average, small and mostly cheese with barely any steak. An easy waste of money. They have a big menu online but only about 1/4 of the menu is displayed at this location. They also have the world's smallest selection of Pepsi products. A good amount of Coke products though. My last visit was beyond disappointing and a big shocker coming from J's. I think I'll stay away from this place for awhile. read more

We went to J's Deli in Woonsocket and it was absolutely delicious and fresh like it was as 20 years ago when it opened. The Gobbler sandwich was yummy with delicious turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. The steak and cheese sub with perfectly seasoned and yummy. The service was friendly and quick. The dinning room looks the same and has plenty of tables for eating. Prices seems reasonable now especially since sandwiches are huge and with quality ingredients. read more

J's deli has always been pretty hit or miss. Last 2 times I've come here it's been a hit on the quality of the food but a total miss on the execution of the service. The job doesn't seem overall complicated... take order, make order, take money, give order to costumer. Last 2 times I've gone here they have missed the mark on the order part. Twice I've shown up and they forgotten to make half the order. These orders aren't big either. 2 sandwiches and 4 sandwiches nothing overwhelming or earth shattering. The sandwiches are great. I love The Waldorf. I also love that J's names all of their sandwiches - of which there are a ton. But 'The Waldorf' has my hungry heart. Jampacked with fresh chicken salad, walnuts, and other stuff, it's both yummy and super satisfying. What they lack in ambiance (barebones and far from cozy), they make up for in speed of service and big, delish sandwiches. Disappointed. I tried this location twice now since they re-opened and I have been disappointed both times. The quality of the food has gone WAYYYY downhill. The pastrami used to be incredibly lean and delicious and now it is chewy and fatty. The Turkey is chewy and not tender and the bacon on one of the sandwiches we ordered was burned. I ordered the Mutual Fund. It was quite underwhelming. For $13.00, it was nothing better than meat (which I'm giving it a rating of 3 because the meat was nice and lean), American cheese (very thick and not very palatable), and a plain white torpedo roll. There was a little Russian dressing on it (not enough to compensate for how plain and dry it was), and nothing else. I should have noticed that there was not even an offer of lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, etc., but this sandwich would be exponentially better if it were not blah and plain. Waits can be a bit long, but you can usually get in and out (for eating in) in 45-60 minutes, even during peak lunch hours. Valued Guest Cards allow you to get 10 sandwich stamps for a free one - just remember to bring it with you. I could get into some of my favorites, but that would take too long; suffice it to say if the sandwich has a place on the wall menu, thousands before you have approved of it (or it's been removed to make room for a new selection, which they always work in from the specials board as soon as you walk in). I really, really like J's Deli as a brand in whole. They're streamlined across the area. My issue here was that it was pretty filthy. The chairs were crusted with black hand prints, same with the tables all the way around. Many, many people eat in and I would like to see a little cleaner table eat in area. HOWEVER it's really unfortunate that you can't order the bone in wings online because they're only sold by the pound. I remember when they first open in the Woonsocket area their sandwiches were loaded with meats or just full of the items you ordered. I ate many of the sandwiches I like the portfolio but didn't really like the thanksgiving to me was on the bland side maybe there wasn't enough cranberry sauce on it. I went to Woonsocet store for the first and last time yesterday. i ordered a small steak sub and was so rudely informed that they don't sell small sanwiches so I ordered a steak sub ans she couldnt even get that order right Twice when she read it back to me. finally she understood. I never leave reviews, ever, but I had to with this one. I'm so freaking glad I stumbled upon this restaurant! The gobbler sub is amazing, and it covers tomorrow's lunch as well. It seems as though with a lot of places the prices are just climbing and the food is mediocre at best. Not with J's! The store owner then acknowledged the fact that we received the wrong order and took it upon himself to deliver the correct order directly to us. I really want to love this place. It's a local subshop. The menu makes everything sound great, but it leaves much to be desired. One, the sandwiches are mediocre. They lack the "wow" factor for the price. At close to $10, I want something impressive, stuffed to the brim with meat. Maybe change your price point to $9 for a small and $12 for a large? On Saturday April 20, 2024, I asked my husband to get me a Turkey Pilgrim sandwich, something I have got before at J's for many years. During COVID J's shut down their Cumberland location, which is what I used for years before, and I think now only has a Woonsocket location. I always loved the Turkey Pilgrim (and anything else I got at J's) but this might have been the first time I've gone to the Woonsocket location recently. The sandwich is expensive at $14 but large, but....that's life now. When I got home however, I found that the turkey was SMOKED TURKEY (which I detest) instead of the turkey breast they had always used for years before. There is no mention of smoked turkey on the menu but this turkey was DEFINITELY SMOKED. Also, I could detect no cheese nor gravy, 2 ingredients of the Turkey Pilgrim. I have been trying to choke down this sandwich as I hate to waste food and money, with heaping dollops of mayo which barely makes it edible to me. My husband tried calling the store to complain and was given a load of baloney by someone calling herself the store manager. She actually had the brass to deny this was smoked turkey - WHICH IT IS - I'm not sure my husband was aware at that point that the other ingredients were also lacking. The manager was incredibly unhelpful and we got no satisfaction. It is disappointing to see this in a place I went to several times a year for many years, but I will NEVER BE BACK. Not only because of the switch with the smoked turkey (which I do find inedible and never order) and the lack of key ingredients, but also the really unhelpful and uncaring attitude from their manager. We also discovered on the same trip that the beef stew we used to get has now increased in price from $10 (pre Covid) to $16, for the same size. I understand that COVID screwed up many things but J's is not a place I would now ever return to. If the manager had been minimally helpful I might reconsider even at these prices but now....no way. Don't feed me smoked turkey and tell me it's hand carved off any breast - I don't know of any natural smoked turkeys running around out there. Very sad and aggravating experience. read more

Been to the deli twice for lunch. Great food selection (subs, pasta, meats), huge lunch portions, good fries and good atmosphere for a deli in Woonsocket. Overall, food was surprisingly tasty especially the rolls. I had a steak, peppers, and onions sub and couldn't get enough. I've also had a steak bomb, delicious as well. They grilled the sandwich, but the veggies were cold (only downfall). Prices are on the higher side, however, and main reason for 4/5 stars. All in all, if there was a 4.5/5 star option this place would be it. Will certainly be going back, food tastes excellent and staff are very friendly. Overall, 4/5! read more

Nearly everything I've gotten has been excellent. Yes, the sandwiches here are expensive, but when you compare it to some other "sub" shops, you're at a similar price point. When I moved back here I remembered this place was good. Everyone I went I got the Thanksgiving sub and it was good. This last time we tried the steak and cheese and it was the worst and tasted looked microwaved. It didn't even look like steak. Also got a salad and the lettuce looked old and it jus was sad looking. For the fact we spend twenty dollar on a salad and sub that we're both bad I felt awful suggesting going there. I looked behind the counter AFTER we ordered and noticed no grill unless I missed it so I think this is a place like Subway where you don't order hot subs but the cold ones are probably alright. The case of sweets and other prepared foods looked so amazing so I'm thinking this place is hit or miss. Love Jay's deli !! very different from subway, they don't have all the veggies most of the sandwiches are packed generously with meats. My favorites on the menu are the pilgrim sub and the Patriot. The pilgrim is a sub packed with turkey, stuffing, cheese and cranberry sauce. Sounds like a weird combo but its actually delicious and very filling. Sandwiches cost about an average of $8 or more so don't expect any subway deals. But the price you pay is definitely worth it! read more

MY GUYS!!!! Don't let the average ratings deter you. This place cranks our amazing deli sandwiches. The hardest part is deciding what you're going to get. I always ask the employees to surprise me and it never fails to satisfy. NOW, I do not recommend doing this as i am weird and will literally stuff anything in my gullet. This is one of those "little big" sandwich joints. You think it's this little local sandwich place, and then you walk and realize that it's no joke. The walls are lined with all kinds of creative sandwiches, paninis, deli meats, salads and fried goods. We came here because it's a favorite of our Cumberland friends. I went with probably the most boring choice (as dubbed by my boyfriend) when I ordered the Waldorf Chicken wrap. Chicken salad with lettuce, cheese, cranberries and walnuts. I thought it was quite good. Boyfriend got a sandwich with breaded chicken, bacon and BBQ sauce. It was pretty good, Nothing too gourmet, but it was tasty enough. The french fries and mozzarella sticks were surprisingly top notch. Overall, I would probably come back here to get another sandwich. The guy who took our orders was a little grumpy and scolded my friend for trying to use one of their plastic containers to hold ketchup, but other than that it was a good experience. read more
