For a pub, this place is ok. Family of 6 ate well. This is the only other place in town other than pizza or Subway. I got the Salmon in Pineapple Curry. I was disappointed that it didn't have more curry flavor, but the pineapple sauce was sweet and the salmon was ok. Blackened on the bottom but still pulled apart with a fork well. Their garlic mashed didn't have enough garlic. Wife had crab spinach stuffed haddock. She was satisfied. Kids got Mac and cheese, yes, Kraft Mac-n-Cheese. Overall, small portions across the table. This is one of the best restaurants ever. A special treat were the Buffalo chicken rangoons, a perfect of Asian pastry and Buffalo's trademark chicken. The shrimp Milano - fat shrimp, artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, and spinach in a light delicious sauce - and one of the day's specials, an Italian style steak, made this a perfect meal. For an appetizer I asked to upgrade the regular fried sampler from regular chicken fingers to buffalo an the potato skins to potato skins with steak terryaki. After touring Mt. Washington for a few hours, this was a great place to stop in for a hearty lunch. Traveling alone, I was greeted by a hostess who seated me right away and the waitress joined at the table shortly thereafter. The waitress was super helpful and attentive. Went there during lunch on a Sunday. The place wasn't crowded. There is plenty of parking. The wait staff girls were very nice. I can find anything bad to say about this place. Ordered a lobster roll and clam strips because the sign outside said so. We were glad we got it because the food was very fresh. It was worth it. Gorham was a hard place to find good places to eat while we were visiting. We were glad that this is gonna be our go to place when we visit mt. Washington next time. read more

My husband and I walked into J's a little late for dinner (8:30pm on Saturday) not knowing what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised. J's is primarily a steak & seafood restaurant, and while the menu doesn't have a ton of choices, there was enough variety there in those categories for us both to find something we really wanted. Shared a tasty chicken wing appetizer with chili sauce. The BBQ ribs special was very good; I almost ordered the steak tips but was not disappointed with my choice. The baked potato wasn't very large, but with those ribs to eat, who needs a large baked potato? My husband had the salmon and reported it quite good; we both had the corn on the cob on the side as well. Its sweetness was just fine on its own; no need for butter or salt! The service was excellent; I noticed our waitress glancing over to see how we were doing a couple of times, and I never found myself wanting for anything or waiting for her to show up. Enjoyed their beer on tap list; it's nice to see a local restaurant offering some local beers, and I always have a soft spot for Switchback on tap. We splurged on dessert, and that was tasty as well -- chocolate cream pie for me; cheesecake for him; both of us were happy. Overall, we left happy and pleased; we'll definitely come back. read more

Volunteering up here, I've eaten here approximately once a summer for the past few years. While their menu is pretty extensive, everything is super-greasy; I can't eat more than a handful of fries for fear of extreme digestion problems. Burgers, appetizer-type things, salads...all typical food, but for the area, better than the Pizza Slut down the road, or the few other restaurants there. We were quite disappointed in this restaurant. The food was underwhelming at best. We both had pasta dishes that were significantly under seasoned. Both were missing salt; mine had multiple vegetables but they didn't add much. The sun-dried tomatoes had all the flavor soaked or boiled out of them. The sauce had undercooked lumps of flour. My husband 's fettuccini Alfredo was missing salt and cheese, although we could detect the faintest scent of cheese. read more

We had a buffalo chicken rangoon appetizer which sounded really innovative but tasted weird and had no discernable chicken in it. I had a grilled veggie sandwich with clam chowder and my husband had a club with chili, both for $10. Both of the sandwiches were fine. We weren't excited about them, but the pesto on the veggie was pretty good. Both soups had the most bizarre, unidentifiable taste. We literally could not finish. The bread that was served hot had the texture of bread that was just microwaved, it was tough. We both got the steak tips. Ordered the "award winning" clam chowder, the pot pie and the pork chop. I'm not sure which awards it's won, but every slurp of the hot, creamy chowder was absolutely delicious and boasted a respectable amount of clam. The pot pie was large and hearty, with generous hunks of tender, white-meat chicken mingling with a colorful medley of veggies in a dense, gravy-like broth. Its golden, buttery crust was smooth, shimmering, thick and flaky, and crept over the sides of the bowl like a proper pot-top. One whack of my spoon cracked that beautiful crust open, unleashing ribbons of aromatic steam. The cranberry relish served alongside it was the perfect foil to balance the pie's rich and savory goodness with a touch of sweet, subtly tart coolness. The pork chop was fat (but not fatty), juicy and grilled to perfection, with just enough glaze to compliment its flavor without overwhelming it. Come to think of it, the cranberry relish may very well have been meant for the pork chop. Regardless, it didn't need it. The restaurant's ambiance is unpretentious and convivial.
