I've never been here but I always order from here on Uber Eats whenever I'm craving dim sum. They have reasonable pricing and decent portions. They even have dungeness crab and lobster you can get delivered to your house. My fav items are chicken feet, preserved egg and pork congee, and dungeness crab fried rice. A very disappointing night for JS Chen! Being the beginning of Chinese New Year I placed an order for several items at 4:30 in the afternoon. We were expecting guests around 6:00PM. The food was promised for pick up at 5:15pm. Doesn't seem too difficult even for Chinese New Year. Well upon arrival my husband was informed that our order had been mistakenly given to another patron. Then a lady sitting near the entrance told my husband that she had been there an hour waiting for her order and was frustrated. He asked at the reception podium how long would it take to remake our order and was told 20 minutes. Sadly 30 minutes later was informed the order was lost in the system. Really? So I quickly ordered from another restaurant and my poor husband arrived back home well after our guests arrived. JS Chen has lost our business. The one star is more than it deserves. read more

Met with our big Griefshare dinner group on a Monday evening and restaurant was armed & ready to serve our party of 12! All the dishes were freshly prepared and delivered by a cute little robot! This was my first time trying this place and it will probably be my last. I ordered the BBQ pork fried rice. I did not enjoy it. I did not see or taste any sautéed onion, or bean sprouts, or any scrambled egg. These are all my favorite ingredients in fried rice. I just didn't enjoy the flavor. Also, I asked one of the ladies in there for soy sauce and chili oil while she was walking back to get my order, and as I was speaking to her, she just turned around and kept walking. This is the worst dim sum restaurant I have ever been to. There was no service, no one stopped by to refill the tea, or take away the empty plates. The dishes on the cart were cold and stale. They probably went around for a few hours without people taking them. The steamed dumplings tasted bad because the wraps were already hardened, most likely being on the cart for too long. When we complained about the dishes being cold, they said they could microwave them. If I wanted to eat microwaved dim sum, why would I come here? Avoid this place! read more

Despite the overall rating, I liked JS Chen, and my positive experience may have been because we arrived when they opened 10:30 am on Saturday. Barely any patrons there. Fresh food. Socially distanced tables. What I loved ranked from best to least: * Baked Pork Buns: Oh, wow. They put some glaze over it, and the BBQ inside tasted so delicious. (Doing the 'hmm, hmmm face right now.) A must get. * Taro Root Dumplings: Crunchy, err, stuff, on the outside and a nice filling of taro and ground pork on the inside. I thought they fried these perfectly. *Shrimp Noodle Rolls: Shrimps wrapped in rice noodle sheets with soy sauce. Yes. One of my favorites. * Tofu Skin Roll: So savory, meaty, yet delicate. I could eat three of these. * Pork Siu Mai: Meaty, fresh, and not overly steamed. Nothing special about them, but nothing to complain about either. * Shrimp Dumplings: Similar to the pork siu mai. * Steamed Soup Dumplings: Probably my least favorite. They had them on mini trays, which stuck to the dumpling and ripped open when you tried to eat them. * Turnip Cake: Pretty bland, although I am not the biggest fan of this dish. Not dim sum, but I also tried their lobster noodle, and I loved it. Sure, it'll hit your wallet hard (whatever the market price, at the time of this review mine was $33), but I thought they did an excellent job preparing it. Outside of sf or nyc china town this is hands down the best dim sum. I would rate it one of the best in tx. Dim some was great. Order about six dishes and had no issues with any of it. I've been looking for a dim sum place a bit closer to me, as driving to garland or Richardson is a bit of a haul. When I got in and saw the dimsum push carts, I got excited! (Some places stopped doing that due to Covid). Unfortunately, the food was just mediocre. I came in around 11:30, and the place was quite busy. I wasn't offered tea, but it was promptly brought to me once I asked for it. Food review: Shrimp noodle- tastes okay, except the dough was a bit doughy (if that makes sense). Only in certain spots though, not the whole thing. Shrimp steamed dumpling- this was good. The shrimp to dough ratio was optimal. They do charge this as a larger portion. But, worth it in my opinion. Shrimp and pork dumpling- good, but nothing great. Again, the meat ratio is good. Shanghai dumpling- these were served on a wax paper instead of the typical aluminum foil. Gotta be careful: it'll stick and tear and the juices will flow out :( Other than that, the flavor was on point and good overall. It wasn't served with ginger, though. Which is what I'm use to. They had vinegar at the table. Chives and shrimp - again, good ratio. Lots of chives and good balance on shrimp. The dough was spotty again, though. Unevenly cooked. Too doughy at spots. Tripe- probably the most vanilla tripe I've had at a dimsum place. It wasn't bad, but it also didn't hit the spot. Also not cooked with ginger or scallions like I typically get. Maybe that's the difference. Overall- food wasn't bad. Some inconsistencies, which is a bit confusing since they're cooked together. But, nothing is pulling me back here. I've been here before and enjoyed a great dim sum lunch. So, it pains me to write this review. My family and I went for a late Christmas lunch around 2pm. They had perhaps 3 large tables of 10 people and us 3. There was 1 waitress for all of these customers. She needed help. We got some dim sum before we got our drinks. I had to ask for our drinks. We came here once in a while for occasions. The foods are delicious and very authentic Chinese food. The price of foods are a little more expensive than other Chinese restaurants in the area. The waiters are friendly but too busy to meet our need due to not enough manpower to serve all customers which is typical for Chinese restaurants. This is the most authentic Chinese food in this area. You get seated pretty quickly and if you are concerned about seating a large party, you can make reservations ahead of time. Besides the dim sum selection (these are the little plates usually in number of threes), you can order dishes and eat family style. We loved the bbq pork with honey, eggplant with garlic sauce, snow pea leaves, beef flat noodle, steam egg custard bun, sweet and sour chicken, stir fry string bean, yang chow fried rice with shrimp and roast pork... There really is a full menu with seafood and tofu... really can't eat everything in one meal. Great for large groups or just with your fam. I was craving for dim sum so gave it a try despite the warning from my family. I thought it shouldn't be as bad as they said. I SHOULD listen to my family. This place is overpriced. We went there around 1:15 pm and ordered several dim sums. Har Gow and Siu Mai were not fresh at all. Luo Bai Go (radish cake) was very cold and tasted very funny. Steam spare ribs were only very few and so TINY. Also, they put so many pieces of taro underneath the very few tiny ribs. Beef Tripe was way overpriced at $6.25 - more expensive than Har Gow!!! A lot of staff used to work there for years, but they finally left because the owners treated them so badly, so now the business has gone down A LOT. There is no way I will go back again. After we left that Chinese supermarket, we saw JS Chen Dim Sum & BBQ so we decided to give it a try since they were also a Dim Sum restaurant. I knew the reviews were not very good but we decided not to trust the reviews this time but I regret it！ The food was actually not like BAD but it was really just a 2 stars level. Most of the dishes were just a little bit warm. The reason made me won't want to return is not just the taste. It was the price too. It was too expensive for the portion and the taste. This had been our go to for dim sum. It's close to home and the crowds aren't as bad as some of the other places. The restaurant is pretty big with multiple seating sections. There's typically not a long wait for cart service but there has been once or twice where the carts have gotten overwhelmed so the service is slower. The wait staff is usually plentiful and attentive. However, don't be afraid to make eye contact and wave someone down if you need something. They have a smaller dim sum menu thats served during off peak dim sum times. I chose my lunch based on pictures. My server spoke little to no English. I was able to order food based on pictures. Food was over ordered because of communication issues. All good because I could take the food home. Ended up with way too many dumplings. The food was inexpensive so not a big deal. I would enjoy a return visit. Ordering was a little painful. The food they brought me was "posed" like the photo and it wasn't good. It was short bbq ribs and sliced Korean pork. The meat was fatty and cold. I won't order that again. I tossed it when I got home. The steamed dumplings are good. The sweet and sour soup was also good. I could have made a meal with just the soup and dumplings. We were looking to try some new dim sum joints, and knew we would be looking for an evening visit. Given how far we are from Plano in Fort Worth, we had to do some planning. JS Chen showed up several times in some big lists, so I chose the restaurant for all of us. Let's just say, the drive was entirely worth it. Located near Mitsuwa marketplace in Plano, the restaurant is relatively quiet in the evenings, which is much preferred during the pandemic. The place is nice and clean, but expect very straightforward service. In terms of drinks, the beer is cheap ($4-5), and I would avoid the house wine...I'm sure the bottles are probably better, but you are better served with wine or a lovely hot tea. We ordered four dim sum choices, including soup dumplings, har gow, fried shrimp dumplings and shumai. These come out as soon as they are cooked, so they are incredibly hot and so fresh. The har gow and shrimp dumplings were delicious, and so were the shumai (although those arrived at the end of the meal). The soup dumplings were good, but I would've liked more soup in them. We also ordered salted fish fried rice, half roast duck, garlic eggplant and beef flat noodles. Yes, I know we overordered, but none of us ate anything all day...the good thing is, we ended up with a LOT for leftovers. The rice was delicious although not enough of a salted fish taste. The roast duck was also good, but the skin could be a bit crispier...still, lovely meat and a good quality dish. The eggplant may have been one of my faves, with a nice flavor that was sweet and savory at the same time. The beef flat noodles were a little one-note for me, so I wouldn't order that again. This is the first dimsum I've had since moving here from NY back in 2019. We ordered take-out and we drove from Little Elm to pick up. I was not disappointed with the food. Maybe except for the clams with black bean sauce. I'm hoping it was a one time thing where they were lacking. I'm not opposed to trying them again. The rest of the food was good and satisfying. The food was okay, we ordered the chicken feet, which tasted as expected, Cha-Siu rice roll, which was good but it was drowning is soy sauce, sliced fish congee, which was thick and a few slices of fish, but I think it was too salty and there need to be added green onions which they only topped with parsley, the deep fried Savory dumpling was a bit too vinegary, and we also had the steamed sticky rice with minced pork. AVOID ORDERING FROM THIS RESTAURANT! See below for more details. The management/ownership of this restaurant do not understand customer service or even the idea of politeness. I have had multiple issues with delivery ordered from their location. Either their manager waits 30-45 minutes and cancels the order because they don't feel like delivering, or as happened today, they state they are really busy and a 30-45 minute delivery is going to be delayed by 30 minutes. 1 hour and 40 minutes after ordering my call to inquire about the food was met with hostility and then a promise it was ready would be delivered in 5-10 minutes. 30 minutes after this (2 hours and 10 minutes after ordering), the manager/owner was nothing but rude. This included yelling at me, telling me she wouldn't cancel the order and put in a refund, yelling to never order from there again, along with hanging up on me. Avoid ordering from here if you can. I was concerned when I read the reviews about the slow service here --- maybe the restaurant owner read them too, because our servers were fast and mostly friendly. Hopefully, they've "turned the corner" on that. The inside of the restaurant isn't pretty nor does it have an actual decor, but it was clean, casual, and comfy. And the food was great --- The black bean scallops and the salt/pepper shrimp were fantastic entrees. The dim sum cart wasn't available, but our server let us know that we were welcome to order anything from the dim sum menu. We tried the shrimp dumplings and they were yummy. Our entrees came out before the shrimp dumplings, but the food was good that I can't complain about that. Portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The menu is gargantuan. It took us a while to decide on our dishes. I like big menus, especially when the food is as good as this was. Life goal: tackle as many items on this menu as I possibly can! read more
