Our siding is older so they weren't able to find a complete match, but it's pretty darn close and we're very happy with the work. We also had drywall/ceiling repaired around a new electrical panel we recently had installed and some outdoor siding repair done to a hole left by an old electrical box. Now I can't wait to get the painters out next week! We are so happy with the progress on our home.

Sod Grass Failure from Hidden Construction Debris ~$20 K +13 weeks During construction I saw EH's landscaper laying sod on clay mixed with construction debris--concrete, nails, pipe, glass, and rocks. Despite immediate notice, EH refused to fix. The grass looked fine through a mild spring but died once summer heat baked the debris. Seven lawn specialists confirmed roots burned by heated concrete and lack of soil depth. Correct replacement required removing debris, adding topsoil, and resodding (~$20K). EH dismisses this as "not a warranty item" and claims "it passed county inspection" and "looked green for ten months." True but irrelevant, inspection only verifies appearance that day; the root system was doomed from the start. Wet Bar $6K+4weeks Original plans included a wet bar near the dining room. EH refused, saying installing it required moving a nearby HVAC grill, a task requiring minimal effort. After closing, we resolved the grill at no cost but paid $5,714 and 4 weeks of work to add the wet bar ourselves. Frozen Pipes & Ineffective Insulation $5K+4 weeks The Finished Room Over Garage (FROG) stayed 49F last winter because garage ceiling was poorly insulated. EH declined to pay extra ~$963 for adequate foam during construction. We paid $5,124 to remedy. The uninsulated FROG toilet drain froze. EH initially refused to fix it for $200, then relented after weeks of debate. FROG bathtub base had no insulation or plywood wall, exposed directly to winter air via soffit vents. Electrical $3K+2 weeks Every light switch was on/off. We spent $3,521 and much time installing smart dimmers EH could have added for extra $963. Another case of EH cost cutting during construction that costs buyers ~300% + time later. Internet Cables 2 weeks Ethernet cables were left unterminated without RJ45 ends, preventing internet access until we paid technician to add connectors. The structured-media enclosure wiring box was incomplete; we paid to fix it. EH would not do either item. The underground conduit meant to protect the buried internet line to the utility pole was never installed. When asked, EH owner Ryan Fubini said, "I offered a guy cash to install conduit, but he wasn't interested." Predictably the unprotected cable was later cut by a landscaper, damage conduit would have prevented Builder Response Rather than fix issues Mr. Fubini responded by warning of "legal consequences" for posting reviews and sent an inaccurate, unprofessional message to my wife, which she pointedly refuted. Virginia's anti-S-L-APP laws protect truthful consumer reviews and allow recovery of costs if sued. I've been copied on emails from other EH buyers to Fubini reporting similar concerns, yet Fubini continues to claims I'm his only dissatisfied owner. EH cites many five-star ratings, but they are for small remodel jobs, not full new-home builds. Initially I gave testimonial to buyer who bought $2.5M EH home; Fubini never thanked me Summary Tradespeople who built our house appear to be skilled, by lack formal oversight, project management and quality control. EH leadership prioritized speed and cost-cutting over reasonable finishes, quality checks, problem-solving, and warranty. Every problem follows the same pattern: EH spent the minimum to pass inspection, deny responsibility afterward. EH's constant defense: "it passed Arlington County inspection" misses the point. Passing inspection only meets minimum legal standards at that moment. A luxury builder should exceed them, not hide behind them For anyone considering EH, hire rigorous inspector to check sq ft, structural, mechanical, insulation, finishes, and soil quality before closing. I purchased the upgraded roof and upgrade to beautiful Hardie siding. Fast forward and I'm leaving a 1 star review. Why? Because they only warranty their work product for 2 years a little but important fact that must have been in the contract and I missed. It certainly wasn't spoken. I recall reviewing the Hardie as well as the CertainTeed Roof warranties but nothing about a 2 year warranty from Colonial. Given that information would I have chosen a different company? Of course! I have 2 major problems, a leak inside of my sunroom as well as a problem with the siding which has destroyed a window and French door. A technician came out for the door and explained the when the siding was installed on the deck, they failed to do the flashing. And well, you can see in results in the pictures. When contractors come to provide estimates without missing a beat, each says I shouldn't be having these problems after 4 years and that Colonial should repair. I explain the 2 year clause and they laugh. So, here we are, either file a claim with the roof and siding manufacturers, pay out of pocket OR file a claim with my insurance company. Each option sucks because I went with a company which doesn't provide an actual warranty for their work product. Don't be me, be better.

After scheduling, the scheduling manager continued to contact me numerous times, prior to our meeting, to confirm my availability, in which I double checked all the pieces above. Never was I told to allow for a 30minute window, so imagine my frustration when I blocked off an hour for work 2:00-3:00pm, and the guy showed up at 2:30pm, upset with me because I needed to end at 3:00pm. The estimate went quickly. I tried to cover everything we wanted, allowing time for him to take measurements, draw schematics, and have time for follow-up questions, but it felt disconnected and rushed. I was told we would schedule a follow-up Zoom appointment to walk through everything- I scheduled a time period with the scheduling manager, again blocking off work- only to have them call 20mins before the appointment and cancel on us because they weren't ready with information. Then I waited days for them to call back to re-schedule the appointment, but never got contacted. Overall, it wasn't a good relationship. We didn't feel cared for or considered as new clients, so we removed them as a possible vendor.

The initial response for the design and the estimate was within 24 hours. Once I signed the contract, construction started the next day. I soon realized that Patrick had different teams of men who were highly skilled and proud to do quality work. Patrick was very prompt and offered great advice on my driveway cement design and the sidewalk pavers project. Patrick provided a Cambridge Armortec paver catalog and guided us through possible design and paver stone selection. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with Ted and would not recommend him due to his lack of professionalism. First of all, we had to reschedule my walk through 4 different times. This should have been my first clue to move on with other handymen I researched, but I tried to give Ted a chance. He actually offered to do my walk through free of charge because of the scheduling issues, so I moved forward with it. After the walk through, I was issued an estimate, which was reasonably priced. I decided that I would hire a smaller, independent contractor to some immediate small projects around the house before my family arrived (hang a ceiling fan, mirror, and flood light), and hire Ted and his company to complete larger projects once I had some more money saved (build out a few closets, hang some cabinets, repair a porch roof, and repair some doors). When I thanked him for the estimate and told him of my plans, he went off, and my experience quickly took a nosedive. He rambled on and on about how I wasted his time (even though I explicitly told him I would hire him at a later date for the larger projects) and then he made a biased statement that was offensive and unprofessional about working with customers in Southeast D.C. When I mentioned to him that I thought his comment was racially and social-economically charged and wasn't appreciated, he flipped out. I told him I would share an honest review of my experience, including his racially charged comment, and he threatened legal action against me, which isn't even possible. This was all such an unfortunate experience, but I appreciate him showing me who he was. If you are a person of color, ally, or someone who cares about how the people you hire treat others, I would not bother working with him and his company. If he will speak this way to a customer's face, I can only imagine how he speaks in private. Spend your money where you are celebrated not tolerated!

In his own words, he lied when he misstated that I spoke to his staff and that I demanded and "basically telling us to not even bother", which are false statements. Ted cannot produce any phone record documentation that a conversation ever took place. He may claim he called me, but Ted nor his staff have never actually spoken to me. Attached is a screen print image of the owner's comments where he referred to me as "he" and "his". If Ted or his staff actually spoke to me, then they would know that I am obviously a woman. Documented proof that the owner of this company has lied about the actual situation. Unbelievable the lies that this owner will claim. Fact is all correspondence was via documented emails directly with the owner. I have attached my original email to this updated review and the public will see that I was consistently courteous and even stated "Thank you" twice to him. The only reason that prompted the owner Ted to apologize was when he saw that I wrote a negative review revealing his scathing remarks to me. This obviously was not sincere because he waited a week after the incident and was scared that I exposed his true colors. He claimed to "apologize" for being rude and crass to me; however it was not genuine because exactly three days later on March 8th the owner attacks and blames me for his temper tantrum on his comments to my first review. Simply appalling. It is unfortunate because I only kindly declined to his bid (see original review with email correspondences). It is apparent to readers that Ted will vilify anyone that has a bad experience with him or his company. I encourage readers to review all of Ted's comments to the other customers that gave him a bad review. He accuses his customers of all the wrong doing. This owner does not take criticism as a learning experience nor does he take responsibility nor fault. He was even condescending to the reviewer that gave him a three-star review. It is obvious to all readers that in Ted's own words, that he continues to view that his customers are beneath him. In his own comment to me, "I should have over looked your email and moved on", validates this. Overall just a horrid experience from my interactions with the owner. Responding rudely to your customer base is wrong, but lying about the situation is setting an all time low.

A few days ago I called Style and spoke with Nick about a single shingle that appeared to have recently been lifted at the edge by wind or an animal. He stopped by today as a courtesy and removed a small piece of debris that had become stuck under the edge and confirmed no damage. How many companies provide customer service like that - 20+ years later?
