Tl;dr Version- Good apps, good HH drinks, Honestly terrible entree This is one of the many (many) Thai restaurants in the surrounding area which means that competition is stiff. Anyway, I was at this pretty long running Thai restaurant a while ago with two others for an early dinner. We sat outside as the weather was very nice and the inside was a bit too cold for one of the other people which was fine as they have a very nice outdoor space. As it was early, they still had happy hour and I ordered a Lychee Mojito which I think it was $8 or $9 instead of $12 or $14 or so. I don't mind at all that it was a tad boozy and there were a handful of lychees in there. This was nice. Speaking of nice, the best thing here were the appetizers. We had some type of fried dumpling to begin with though I'm honestly not sure which one as none of them really match the description and we definitely did not have the Andaman one as it contains pork and one of the other people doesn't eat it. Whatever it was, the dumpling was actually excellent being very well fried but not oily with a nice tasty center that had some basil or some other type of herb for an extra bonus. The dish had a slightly sour sweet sauce below which was fine of course. Whatever dish whatever it was, I would recommend it. There was also the pretty tasty Isan Papaya Salad (or rather Somtum for $13.95) consisting of green papaya, string bean, peanut, cherry tomatoes, and a cherry lime dressing. There was plenty of papaya for crunch and there was a bit of heat to it though less some than many other places. It tasted fresh overall with the lettuce absorbing a lot of the extra sauce. It is good but it's hard to order it here when it's literally a block away from one of the best papaya salads in the city at Zabb PuTawn's BK location. My main dish was pretty regrettably the Pad Kra Prow listed as your choice of meat stir fried with onion, garlic, bell pepper and basil in spicy basil sauce. I chose chicken (or in other words pad krapow gai) which was one of the cheap options at $18.95 and ordered it spicy and the dish arrived and tasted very differently than what I expected and not in a good way. Usually, chicken or whatever meat it is in this dish is chopped into small pieces to absorb the sauce and the dish has good kick to it making it one of my favorite Thai dishes as I like a lot of heat. The meat arrived instead in pieces which is fine as some other spots do this and as there was plenty of them but they were pretty tasteless and lacked texture with some of them being a bit gummy. There was also a brown sauce on the bottom which had a hint of holy basil but not really enough which didn't help the bad chicken. I don't mind Americanized Thai food as long as it tastes good but the main dish was atrocious and there's several places nearby which make versions which can run circles around it. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Outside of that awful dish, I tried the Chicken Pad Kee Mao/drunken noodles which was the same price which was definitely better which didn't really take much. There was plenty of meat again but the wok hei lacked with the noodles but at least it was decently spicy. The last person I believe got a fish which was fine. In a sea of Thai spots littered around Cobble Hill, this definitely falls under the "Could've Been Better" of the bunch though honestly if it wasn't for the dumplings, I might be giving this place a 1. While waiting for my pup to get out of surgery at BondVet next door, we decided to come by here for a quick happy hour drink. There is a nice outdoor patio in the back, where we sat. I got a Lychee Mojito ($9 for happy hour, $14 otherwise) while the boyfriend had a beer and shot ($9). The drink was solid while a bit on the strong side. Quality drop I am (was!) a repeat customer at this place for over 10+ years without a single complaint. It is okay to have some slight differences in taste once in a blue moon but nothing significant over a decade. It sounds odd but we always had the same few dishes here over and over again, average twice a month. Our recent order on April 20, 2025, was not even close to the quality we are used to, and we had a hardship swallowing the first few bites... We could not even recognize our old menu! What an great spot! This place has hands down the Best Thai food in NYC. I've been coming to Joya for over 14 years now, and this place never disappoints. All the food is so flavorful, and the classic Thai dishes are still my favorite, and I've been to Hundreds of Thai spots. The pad se Yoo is my favorite, with a perfect blend of soft flat noodles and bean sauce. All the curries are absolutely delicious, and the spare ribs and all the appetizers are still the best. We left Brooklyn in 2017 and came back despite seeing reviews of new ownership because we believed in its origins. We were pleased to know the original owner came back and it was as we never left. My favorite thing about Joya is the kind wait staff! They are very attentive and also they easily accommodate special orders. For instance I wanted a side of white regular tofu to go with my side of broccoli and while this tofu was not on the menu they nicely showed flexibility by adding it to my order. I however wish they would switch the music to something more sophisticated and relaxing! They, like other Thai restaurants, seem to have more the nightclub mentality with music and play loud danceable tunes. read more

Honestly my favourite Thai restaurant in NYC thus far and I've been to a lot. I was kinda worried when I saw the rating but my friend said she loves this place so we came and I love it!! The Thai tea was so good!! And Thai red curry was the perfect consistency and perfect amount of spice and sweet. I got a spice level 2/3. And it wasn't too spicey. We also got to her curry puffs and it's my new favourite appetiser. The service was kind of slow. I had to get the server attention to get our order and for the receipt. It was very spacious inside. What the H.... happened Joya ?!??? WHY ????? We have been ordering the same dishes once or twice a month for years because this was the most authentic and affordable Thai place in Brooklyn and our order last night was a disaster: half the order was wrong and the food was either super bland or actually not good at all.... The chicken skewers were either burned or had been cooked before and then too much reheated and they were rubbery and uneatable at best. The chicken fried rice had absolutely NO TASTE. The chicken panang was as bland as they can as were the garlic shrimps. I am not sure what happened last night hut you had a little gem of a restaurant and if this is the new culinary direction, you will at the very least have lost us a loyal customers for ever. Joya. What happened? I've been coming here for over a decade. It used to be one of my favorites - full flavors and reliable service. Now, it's none of those things. The Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao used to have real flavors; now it tastes bland, watered down. Back when I was a social worker scraping by, their generous portions were a blessing. Now, portions are pitiful. I can literally count the number of slices of onions and bell peppers. Service was atrocious. I actually appreciated the thinner consistency and simpler veggies of the new and improved red curry dish (I was not a fan of the zucchini, eggplant, or crunchy noodles in its former iteration). Our server, Charlie, accommodated an order of steamed noodles on the side - perfect as a red curry noodle soup. The plating of the fried shrimp rolls was actually more functional in a glass for dipping purposes. Don't let the initial strong smell of fish sauce deter you from coming in because this place knows how to cook Thai ! We got the fried red snapper to split and it was plenty. It comes with a side of red curry & vegetables and with the fish it was so tasty. The place is good size but in the same area as the kitchen so you get the kitchen smells but the vibe of the restaurant helps make up for it. I ordered from Joya tonight with a couple of girlfriends. We ordered the epitome of basic Thai food - pad Thai, pad see yue, spring rolls, chicken satay... Ummm the best pad see yue I've ever had! First off, it came with a lemon wedge which was the perfect shot of acid. The chicken was plentiful and really juicy... not to typical dry chicken breast strips you sometimes get. The sauce on the noodles was really well balanced. The noodles themselves were really well cooked, not too soft even though they had been sitting in a takeout container. Such a pleasant surprise! The spring rolls were, of course, excellent. Delivery was efficient and timely. Will definitely be reordering Joya again! read more

The neighbors has contacted the managers and owner multiple times and they have not address this dangerous issue. Please do not eat in the back yard until the tree is cut down. Joya used to serve affordable, tasty quality Thai food at affordable prices. After eating there yesterday, prices have now doubled, recipes have changed and the quality has completely diminished to an average fast Thai spot that is not worth the price. Tomatoes were added to the fried rice (WHO ASKED FOR THIS???) you no longer get the can when you order a soda, spring rolls used to be the best now they're average (tastes like frozen store bought??) and there is now a surcharge if you used a card for payment instead of cash on top of the increased prices. Overall the changes are a complete scam, quality has severely diminished and now at a higher price. read more

I walked in here to celebrate my son's 4th birthday. My child, who is autistic, began to tap the table with his spoon. He oftentimes engages in this sort of behavior which is attributed to his autism. The host kept on staring at my son and repeatedly wagged his finger at my son, to usher him to stop. This is a full restaurant that's got plenty of other people talking, music in the background and the sounds of an open kitchen. The host even continued to say, "you gotta stop or else you'll have to leave" in his nasty, "playful" attitude. After moving to SF a few years ago, I make sure to squeeze in at least 1 meal at Joya. My recent trip to Joya was SUCH a disappointment and I finally understand the reasoning behind so many negative reviews. The calamari was all breading and soggy. Our curry dish was cold. The server seemed so annoyed having to serve us and was super unfriendly. He didn't bother to change the dish or just head it up. I don't think I've ever had cold Thai food, but somehow Joya managed to make that happen. I truly hope they listen to the reviews and make some serious changes! I was invited out to Joya on a first date with someone I never met off the internet. My first thought while checking it out was... (cheap date). Boy was I WRONG!!! So full disclosure bc I was on a first date I took zero pictures and checked in while he was in the restroom so no pictures. But SOME BODY need to put some pictures bc the place is sleek, modern and BEAUTIFUL. The orange hues set up by the lights and frosted glass definitely are giving intimate vibes. The bar placement is crucial and folks kept coming in and out stopping by the bar indulging. It WAS the cutest date night pick I had to feign disinterest and focus on the date. The menu was hand written rustic maybe and the mango margarita didn't taste like a margarita it was not giving margarita at all but it wasn't bad. I wouldn't recommend that even tho it's their star drink. The food menu varies in price from $10 to $30 not bad. We had the wings and shrimp dumplings for appetizer. Literally perfect. I don't even eat wings on a date but I figured it out. Perfect blend of seasons and spices. Dumplings like I just wanted to not share they were that good. Idk if it was oyster sauce they used for dipping chef kiss!! For the entree my date had something omg I wish I knew the name but it was the last menu item in the noodle section. He said he always comes with his family and orders the same thing. I kicked myself for not ordering that it & I went with the shrimp pad Thai. No complaints at all simple fresh. A hairy situation!! I have been here many times, but this was the last time I'll come here. They say when anything can go wrong, it will go wrong...this was my experience... 1st they put too much milk in the thai iced... had to send it back! 2nd the spare rib tips I ordered was fried wayyyy to hard...had to send that back...but then when I pulled a long hair out of my mouth after taking a bite of thai fried rice.... I was done!!! The Manager was called over and was confused as to how that could've happened because he said, "The chefs wore hair nets"... last time I checked, hair nets had holes in it, not to mention the servers do not wear hair nets, meaning there's nothing but space and opportunity for hair to fall in. When we arrived at Joya we waited for the hostess to finish taking an over the phone order, we waited for a few minutes then she without saying hello or welcome, asked us how many were in our party. When she brought us to the table she asked if the stroller I brought could be folded to which I looked around and many parents had their strollers unfolded, when I asked if this was necessary she replied snarly and was very rude to me. On Mother's Day lol. We Ordered vegetable spring rolls and fried calamari both dishes tasted like it was cooked in old oil. Horrific. And unexceptable. We've been ordering these exact dishes from this restaurant for over 15 years, never have I ever experienced the poor quality taste, when we spoke to the waitress she wasn't trying to resolve the issue and simply stated they change the oil every morning and will continue to cook in the same oil everyday until closing. She explained she could bring us another order but it would taste the same because they weren't cooking it in new oil. What kind of restaurant customer service is that? She basically told us they're ok with serving their food no matter if it tasted old. A cool location not only to dine in but just as cool to get the food for takeout. The restaurant is a blend of hip, upbeat, somber, chill. Nothing eccentric but it's definitely worth popping in. Grabbing a bite to match your hunger size and enjoying the energy from the fellow patrons. The location is of moderate size. The backyard seating is a nice touch. Five stars for flavor. I've seen this restaurant around for over a decade and I think it was one of my very first Thai restaurants. I'm happy they've survived and thrived during the pandemic. One thing every dish had in common was that it was delicious, packed with flavor, and had a random large chop of vegetable lol! As long as you're not a food critic, you should be fine with every dish. 1) Mango Salad - Everyone should get this. Unlike other places, they really give you a whole mango and not just other vegetables. My only reco is that they put this salad in a bowl and not a dish so the salad can marinate in the delicious dressing a little more. Your first bite probably won't get dressing. Also, look at the size of that red onion piece lol 2) Pad See Yue - Completely delicious. I got mine with chicken. There was one large stalk of Chinese broccoli haha 3) Pineapple fried rice - Flavorful with plenty of fresh (not canned) pineapple.
