    Watermelon Freeze
    Frank L.

5 stars for Joy Yee Plus in Chinatown! I really liked the drinks that they have here and they make them super fast even when they have a long line at their outside stand. got to try a Cookies & Cream Milk Tea which was delicious, perfect balance of tea with desert type flavoring, literally tasted like an iced tea with cookies & cream! The watermelon freeze is basically like a watermelon smoothie - if you like watermelon definitely try this one! The cups are bigger sizes which is nice too. Definitely try them if you're in Chinatown and want a great bubble tea/smoothie etc.!

We love to grab Joy Yee Plus after a big dinner (guilty pleasure) it's usually busy so be prepared to wait. The lines so move quick which is a plus. There aren't many seating and it's usually taken up by families so it's mostly catered to take out. I got their durian ice cream and it was delicious. They put fresh durian on top which is a plus as well.

This place is such a classic spot. I always enjoy coming here after dinner for a sweet treat! It's always small space but usually always pretty busy. People are always in and out. So you know it's good and popular. I wish there was a location in the suburb too. It would be nice to have a closer spot to go to.....but it would also be dangerous. There's quite a bit on the menu. There's frozen yogurt, different smoothies, teas, waffles, & ice cream. I always like to order the regular frozen yogurt or a smoothie. Just a little something to satisfy the sweet tooth craving.

Let's start with the ambience outdoor ordering and pick. Joy Yee Plus is a mandatory stop every single time we visit Chinatown Square. Their fruit freezes are amazing made with real fruit, beautifully layered, and served in massive portions that are perfect for sharing. I highly recommend the mango freeze with popping boba. The digital ordering kiosks make customizing your drinks super seamless, and the service is decent. 100% recommend!!

In general, my husband and I think Joy Yee is pretty darn good however, I never been to their dessert spot at Plus. But goodness gracious, I am very much a sweets gal and this Waffle Ice Cream hit the spot. When it comes to flavor, it was pretty much vanilla soft serve with chocolate on top of chocolate. Nothing can go wrong with that. And the waffle was delicious itself. Cooked perfectly.

Super cute shop. Has some cool anime on the wall. They have a wide variety of drinks! Fruit teas, smoothies, milk tea, & then some different food items you can choose from. They have a kiosk for ordering to make it easy as well. I got a fruit star tea and it tasted pretty good. Only complaint was it was a bit sour from the lime. Still very good though. Also got their mango grapefruit tea. That was my favorite. Perfect sweetness, some fresh fruit in each sip, just overall perfect. I will definitely be coming back to this shop. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the person at the front register didnt even acknowledge me. I had to use the kiosk to order. Which isn't the end of the world. Just isnt helpful if you have questions about drinks. Still recommend anyone who loves fruit teas to give this place a try!

Best ever bubble teas: passion fruit + pineapple freeze with tapioca! Try it. son's favorite: banana freeze with strawberry popping.

Everybody knows this place. No surprise here. Great bubble tea in China town. Don't get the food in my opinion it is not so good. But the bubble teas are great. Only reason I am writing a review is that after many samples I finally found the perfect combo: passion fruit + pineapple freeze with tapioca. Do yourself a favor and try one!

Drinks were delicious and it came very quick quickly after we ordered. Large variety of flavors to choose from. I recommend the grapefruit lychee freeze, lychee mango freeze, pineapple coconut, and mango coconut green tapioca.

Restaurant in china town. Had dessert there. I had the chocolate bubble waffle sundae and my friend had graham cracker version. Ice cream was really tasty but I wasn't the biggest fan of the bubble waffle. Very unique sundae. Quick service

Looking for boba's in Chicago Chinatown? Look no more..they have smoothies, boba's and fresh fruit freeze drinks! So many different flavors and selections. They uses fresh fruits for their freeze's. We ordered short ribs pho which was served in a huge bowl good for 3! The ribs were so tender. Bulgogi beef with rice, siomai, and coconut shrimps. We had 3 drinks , strawberry kiwi freeze with boba, mango freeze with boba and I forgot to take a pic of avocado freeze. Service to get in the food was pretty fast but after that you have to get their attention to get anything else you need. Space is huge but the good thing we didn't wait that long to get seated. It's a good spot for families since most foods are good for sharing. Parking- we went during marathon so every corner the road was closed so we had to park really far and then walk to chinatown but after the marathon they opened the street and they have a huge parking space.

I love the Four Season tea

Joy Yee Plus in Chinatown is a great spot if you're looking for refreshing drinks and lots of variety. I especially enjoy their cold teas, which are consistently refreshing and perfect when you want something light. They also offer a wide range of smoothies and sundaes,so there's plenty to choose from depending on your mood. I've tried their waffle ice cream once, but it wasn't really my favorite compared to their drinks. One standout for me is the taro flavor it's the closest thing to ube that I can get, and I really enjoy that familiar, slightly sweet taste. Overall, Joy Yee Plus is a solid choice in Chinatown, especially if you're going for drinks rather than desserts.

The kiddos couldn't walk past this cafe without ordering a drink. There's 2 locations that sells bubble tea, the walk up and the actual store. We went to the store, you can order on the kiosk otherwise there's someone at the counter who will help you. Small cafe but has tables and chairs for dine in. Which was perfect because some of the kids ordered the bubble waffle with ice cream. The large size bubble tea were bottles, which was perfect. We can reuse for other beverage.

Ask the Community - Joy Yee Plus

Does Joy Yee or Joy Yee Plus use dairy in their fruit smoothies? I'm lactose intolerant, but I know some boba places (vivi bubble tea) use a dairy free creamer for their teas.

Hello! I’m pretty sure some of the drinks use coconut milk and juices vs dairy and thought the smoothies used a non-dairy product but I’d just ask to make sure once you’re there :)

Are there any vegan options at Joy Yee?

Yes. There are several vegetable, noodle and tofu options. The iced drinks come as fruit smoothies without milk.

The wontons didn't taste too fresh and the wide noodles were pretty stuck together...unsure of how fresh the noodles were either... The beef brisket was on the chewier side to my surprise... The highlight of the meal was the garlic snow pea tips. Portions were generous and this was stir-fried to perfection. Sunday Funday with a fantastic first visit to a Chinatown gem!…read more I felt like Chinese food today, and rather than eating at my neighborhood regular, I wanted to go straight to Chinatown for the most delicious, authentic experience. Thanks to my deep dive and discovery on Yelp, MCCB turned out to be the perfect spot to achieve this. The restaurant has held its Michelin status for five years now, and for my first time visiting, the flavors here were incredible. Please note: the restaurant signage is not easily visible from the street since the storefront faces inward toward the mall plaza, and while looking for it, I ended up asking a local man and his wife for directions. He was so kind and welcoming that he unexpectedly left his wife on the sidewalk, my husband in the car, and walked me right across the street and into the mall to point it out from the inside! WAIT TIME: there is a 1 to 1.25 hour wait period to be seated for a table, and a $10 fee via credit card is required to secure your spot, which is then fully transferable to your bill upon checkout. The wait is a great time to walk, explore the shops, restaurants, all Chinatown has to offer, and get your steps and miles in! SERVICE: our first server, Allen, was a bit on the stiff, curt side, but overall nice. However, we had to move from a two-top table to a four-top to accommodate all the dishes we were trying. In that changeover, we were blessed to get one of the BEST servers there, Ashley, who made the experience wonderful. FOOD: we ordered an absolute feast, starting with three starters. The Cheng Du Style Dumplings were fantastic. The Crispy Crab Rangoons were actually not mini at all and had a great crunch. The Szechuan Style Cucumber was a bit underwhelming and a slight bit on the soft side for my tastes, as I prefer my veggies crunchy even when cooked. We ordered everything with the mild heat option so there was no overwhelming spice, just great flavor. For the main dishes, we started with the Cauliflower Flank Steak and added broccoli to it, which was a fantastic addition. It is cooked in an oyster sauce and has none of the standard sweeter seasonings of the other dishes. I chose this to balance a sweet and salty rationing across my dishes, finding that MCCB is a great place to get that perfect balance. The Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce was perfect with the mild heat option as well, and the Honey Black Pepper Flank Steak was also incredibly savory, tender, and good. We paired everything with garlic string beans, white rice, and a great jumbo shrimp fried rice. I preferred water, while my husband had a few Diet Cokes. The food comes out hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. PARKING: parking is convenient--there is street parking or you can use the two north and south lots within walking distance. The north lot is on Archer and Wentworth, and the south lot is on Cermak and Wentworth. Validated parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 hours, and you will only pay $3 with the validation. Just make sure to stay within that time limit and get it validated, because if you go over the 3 hours or forget the validation, you will have to pay the full price for the lot. PRICE: the pricing here is very reasonable for a Michelin-recognized restaurant. Our dinner came out to just under $146 total, which offers phenomenal value given the large portions and top-tier quality. If you are seeking high-quality, delicious Sichuan food in Chinatown that completely lives up to its multi-year Michelin status, and can be customized perfectly to your spice comfort, this is a great place to go. Highly recommend and will return with family!

Our large group was accommodated easily, and we were served relatively quickly after an initial delay while we were waiting for someone to come by. Food came soon after that. Ambience is nice, clean, and modern. Only issue while we were here is that some in our group tried to order their baked chicken over spaghetti and they were out of spaghetti. You can always count on Chi Cafe for a satisfying meal when hungover. Things have definitely changed over the years. After COVID, the hours became more limited, and the neighborhood has faced challenges that have unfortunately affected the area's late-night scene. It's sad but Chi Cafe still delivers when you're craving quick, comforting food. Whether it's a bowl of noodles, , baked rice dishes, Hong Kong-style cafe classics, or a late-night snack, the menu has plenty of options that satisfy those comfort food cravings. It's the kind of place where you know exactly what you're getting, and sometimes that's exactly what you want. The biggest downside is that prices have increased noticeably over the years while portions seem to have gone in the opposite direction. What used to feel like an incredible value now feels like a clear case of shrinkflation. The portions are smaller, and the bill is definitely higher than it used to be, which can be a little disappointing for longtime customers who remember the old days. Even with those changes, I still find myself coming back here just not as often. There's a nostalgia factor that's hard to replace, and the food continues to hit the spot when I'm looking for something warm, filling, and familiar. For me, Chi Cafe remains one of those places that may not be quite what it used to be, but it's still worth visiting when you're in the neighborhood and looking for a dependable meal.
