If there was a 3.5 star range this would be a place to get it. Some of the macaroons were fantastic while others were hard and dense. I truly believe that it's a work out the kinks kind of thing. We tried 6 macaroons -Nutella, almond, chocolate, butter pecan, raspberry, and lavender. Half of them were perfect a crispy outside and soft middle with not a lot of gumminess. Although I couldn't say I haven't had a better macaron, Joy meets the standards of what is called excellent, high-quality French cream-filled sandwich cookie. I got a 6 piece box with 6 different flavors: Raspberry: its red jam is made from fresh raspberries, a must try! Lemon Fleur de Sel: love love love its tart filling and a touch of fleur de sel. Pistachio: While pistachio is often my go-to flavor, I thought this one is just all right. Rose and Lychee: such a people-pleaser flavor! You can totally 'taste' the rosy chocolate and the lychee completes the not-too-sweet sweetness! Honey and Lavender: this used to be a flavor of the month but I've seen this appears pretty regularly on the menu. Violet and Black Currant: my FAVORITE! and not because it's deep purple! The flavor of the black current and violet ganache are blended perfectly together! I should have got 2, or 3 of this favor! Each flavor has their own touch, yet overall, I consider Joy macarons are better than many other places. The texture and surface of the cookie are very smooth. If you ever try to make macarons, you know how hard it is, and this differentiates a skilled macaron baker from an amateur. Their fillings are chewy, but not gooey and certainly not overly crunchy or dry. Some people prefer the filling to be 'generous', whereas I think when they overdo the filling, it runs out the sides and makes the shell get mushy. I don't consider myself to be a picky eater, yet I do have specific guidelines for the qualities a macaron must possess in order to be deemed "excellent". Will I eat a macaron that lacks excellence? Probably--it's hard to make a macaron taste repulsive. But I won't be very happy about it. read more

This is my go-to spot for when my wife's birthday comes around. I've been to this location a few times now over the years and each time has been a really great experience. First and foremost, this is a business that takes Covid-19 precautions seriously. You cannot enter without a mask and the number of people allowed in the store is limited. I think it's great and kudos to them for doing their part. The shop is very cool on the inside. If you're lucky you can actually watch the macaron making process. I love macarons and always looks for great local shops that I can buy macs for my clients that I do wedding planning for and of course myself! I have eaten macarons from Laduree, Lettes, Bottega Louie, and several other places and Joy's is pretty up to par! I love the sleek design for the front of the shop. The white neon signage and concrete walls allows for the bright colored macarons to "pop" out and be the main focal point of the shop. Each macaron costs $2.00 each, a six pack costs $12.00, and a dozen costs $24.00. Considering it being Bishop Arts and all, the price is a tad expensive. I expect for this price for other metropolitan cities. But not Dallas. Anyways I can justify the cost by telling you how the Macs taste and I think it's pretty good. The Mac shells has the perfect texture on the outside and when you bite into the Mac it is not hollowed out and crumbly like some places. When I went the flavors they offered were the following: vanilla, rose lychee, almond, lavender, violet, chocolate, peppermint, choc chip, raspberry, pistachio, and Italian cream! My only pet peeve was that I went to the shop on Sunday in which I was the only client at the time and wasn't really greeted when I walked in. The ice cream macarons are some of the best I've had but the regular little macarons were forgettable and I even think aren't as good as frozen ones from trader joe's or the supermarket. The actual store front is very well put together. The graphic design and packaging are really well done and the shirts the employees wear were pretty cool. The regular macarons were not good. Looking down the counter, we noticed that almost all of the macaroons didn't rise properly. Out of 200, there were around 10 pistachio ones that actually rose and had a decent foot. I love me some Joy Macarons. I have tried many Macarons at many different places (different stores, different cities) over the years, and hands down...Joy Macarons are THE BEST. After falling in love with Joy, you'll be hard pressed to love a macaron from anywhere else again. I kid you not. I've only been able to get good macaroons in Soho in Nee York. Finally have one in the heart of Bishop Arts. Love this place. I am there regularly at work. What's really disappointing though is since the Covid-19 the macaroons I've been getting have been hard causing them to crumble easily. I can tell they are not fresh possibly since a few people know they are still open. I hope someone checks in and corrects this because I regularly send about $20-30 every visit and this was the first time I was dissatisfied with my box of 12. Terrible service...decent macarons... Alrighty, so in my honest opinion...the NY macarons are definitely A LOT better than this place. I mean this is a new shop in the area so maybe there are things they need to work on, but the main thing about the macarons that are different than the others is the actual cookie layer. In a macaron the cookie layer is the most important factor of the entire dessert! It needs to be perfected in order to get the perfect macaron. I mean that's what makes it expensive right? The cookie layer is very "chewy" it's not airy, it's not as fluffy as the macarons I've tried before, which disappoints me, but they did get the taste on point! Personally the airy fluffy texture of the cookie is what makes it a true macaron, so minus a couple points for that. Besides that, the macaron in general tasted decent, but I give the place a 3 mainly due to the customer service! TERRIBLE customer service if you ask me. I felt very unwelcomed into the store and felt ignored throughout my entire transaction! The workers that day both seemed genuinely nice to other customers (might I point out they were white customers and my group was Asian?) When we walked in the owner was already talking casually to a mother and her child, but when we walked in she just looked at us and continued her conversation with the mother. Immediately I thought that was rude, but I brushed it off and my friends and I were looking at the counter to see the macaron choices. It took her over 15 minutes to finally ask us what we wanted and the other worker walks in and grabs the macarons out of the counter for us without speaking a word to us. When we paid, the owner goes back to talk to her other customer and in walks another pair of (white) customers and the worker helping us immediately perked up instantly and welcomes them in...I was absolutely APPALLED...I basically rolled my eyes and walked out of the store. Ventured over to Bishop Arts during this rainy weekend to try out their Ube Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich. Since we were already there, figured we'd try out their macarons as well so we got the 12 pack, without the lemon and vanilla bean flavors (since there was 14 flavors total). The ube macaron ice cream was a huge disappointment. The macaron itself wasn't flavored anything special and was practically tasteless. The ice cream hardly had an ube flavor in it, I can tell it was homemade but they probably would've been better off putting Selecta's ube ice cream if that was the flavor they were going for. Not coming back here for macaron ice cream sandwiches, it's a looot better at Kate Weiser's. Now for the macarons, they had some pretty interesting flavors that included lychee and rose, lavender, violet and black currant. The texture of the macaron was good, it was airy and soft. The flavors were quite subtle but I liked it because it wasn't too sweet but it felt like the filling to macaron ratio wasn't enough as the flavor was hard to tell a lot of times. My favorites from the flavors were butter pecan, almond, lychee and rose and salted caramel. The rest of the flavors were mehh to me. Either barely there or just not great.
