Wandered in here after driving by for the last couple years. I wanted to get a special cheesecake treat for my husband and they did not disappoint. The associate chatted with me about the store and different options they had for whole cakes and small bites. My husband loved his chocolate cheesecake, but I was surprised at how good the non-namesake items were. The fudge walnut brownie was divine - moist, dense, and full of chocolate. The tiramisu was better than you'd get in any restaurant. This will be our go-to treat for post arboretum or whenever we're in the white rock area. Cheesecake Royale is definitely the needle in the haystack of hole in the wall bakeries! I kept driving past saying I would stop by but was always on a mission. Luckily I had some free time to stop in and it must've been fate, because when I asked the owner what she would recommend, she stated she had just freshly cut a Black Forest cheesecake. This was by far the best cheesecake I've ever had! This place is located in a factory area, which made us a bit skeptical about whether we could actually get cheesecake from here. You have to ring to be buzzed in. We called ahead but the woman said that due to covid, they don't do phone orders anymore. It all worked out, though, because the sampler was available. Customer service was good. Drove past this place on our way to the Arboretum so we stopped by on our way home. We picked up some cake pops/balls from here for a dinner party we had later that night. I ordered a dozen and then decided to get one for myself for the road. The service was extremely nice and didn't even charge me for my extra cake ball. Here for the cheesecake, supposed to be highly rated so we were excited to visit. While trying to pick out a slice from their display I noticed an extremely moldy piece amongst the other slices. Looked like a petri dish on top of the piece. But I picked out a non moldy piece and my daughter chose the salted caramel. The crust was soggy on mine. Her was inedible due to the extremely salty caramel - not sure what happend with that but it was BAD. The Red Velvet Cake tastes less chocolately and less artificial, but the levels of sugar in the cream cheese frosting is enough to convert consumers into pre-diabetics after one bite. Okay, let me explain. I have never even been inside Cheesecake Royale. The closest I've come is when I had lunch at Verona Italian across the street. I'm writing this review because Cheesecake makes the Red Velvet Cake I had for dessert and it's the best I've had in a loooong time. The slice was huge -- very tall -- and the cake was very moist, which is how I judge Red Velvet. Too many have the color but are dry as dust. This place has some impressive cheesecakes and other desserts at great prices. I picked up the Reese's peanut butter cheesecake which was just under $30 and well worth it! Make sure you let it thaw a bit before serving as they are still partially frozen. Ours was still slightly frozen in the center after about 3 hours but I picked it up right before I needed it. I suggest picking it up a day in advance so it can thaw in your fridge. The only thing I didn't like, which some people may prefer, was that it was pre-sliced and had the little separation papers between each slice. Not the prettiest presentation when using as a birthday cake but great if you are not worried about the appearance. I had to careful remove each paper and push the pieces side by side again. After being a long-time customer of Cheesecake Royale, it's time to pony up and give them their due review! As someone who is pretty 'routine' (ie, when I find something I like, I stick to it) Cheesecake Royale is one of those places that once you find your thing on the menu, it's hard to stray. The cool thing about this place is that they are mostly known for providing desserts to many, many Dallas-area restaurants. The way they package their desserts (frozen, individually portioned) makes it an awesome way to handle larger quantities without letting the whole thing go to waste, if you want to manage portions. However, we've frequently purchased their goodies for parties, as not only are the items like the chocolate bundt and tiramisu knock-outs, but the small, bite-sized cheesecakes are the perfect party dessert. Bought the tiramisu for a New Year's party. It was a big hit - everyone was asking where I got it. It came frozen - I thawed it in the fridge for about 2 hours before the party. But the second time, the bread inside was dry and I was eager to complain and return it back. I've never had a cheesecake here that I didn't like. When we first came here, a few years ago, I was so disappointed to learn that we couldn't buy just an individual slice. Fast forward a few years and they sell individual slices, cake balls and other offerings. Some people have said they are disappointed that these cheesecakes are frozen. These people have probably never worked at a bakery. Most of the time, most bakers in most establishments freeze their cakes and desserts. It's easier, and more cost effective, to bake in larger quantities and then freeze in order to keep good a selection for their customers. No one ever really decorates anything when it's warm and fresh from the oven either! So at the very least, chances are your "freshly baked cake"was baked and then cooled down in the walk-in a day or two before your order was complete! If there is good turn over in customers these desserts don't lay around the freezer for weeks. Also, most reputable places date their products to ensure the quality of the product isn't affected. Baked goods freeze really well. That being said, love this place and will continue to be their customer. Their dulce de leche cheese cake is always a hit at parties. First time here so I did not know what to expect. Seems there is only one cake to purchase a slice of and one cheesecake of the day to purchase a slice of. I choose the key lime pie cheesecake. For $4.00 I expected a larger piece but then the Cheesecake Factory wants $7 to $8 for their pieces. Got it home and discovered it was frozen. Not nice. Would have been nice to be told it was frozen and how long to defrost and how to defrost. Once it was edible I found little key lime flavor. The cake was creamy which was very nice. Prices for the cakes are not unreasonable. I have made a number if cheesecakes and they can be expensive to make with good ingredients. Plan to try a cake and see how that is. What am I missing here with so many 4 star reviews? Do so people just not have good taste and don't know what good German Chocolate Cake as well as good cheesecakes are supposed to taste like? I saw the cakes on the Neiman Marcus website who charges triple what CR storefront charges. So I decided to drive 40 minutes away to get my GC cake. I called a week before to order the GC cake for my birthday. When I ordered it the girl that answered the phone never bothered to tell me that this would not be a freshly made cake. I went to pick it up and the girl brings the cake out from the freezer! I was shocked that this was a frozen cake. I also bought a couple of slices of cheesecake and they were terrible. They had very little crust and all we could taste was cream cheese. The Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes hands down blow the CR cheesecakes away. When we started to eat the GC cake, it was very wet and spongy. It was not even edible. We took two bites and we threw away a $50 cake. Who makes a wet, spongy, German Chocolate cake? If you want a delicious German chocolate cake go to Stein's Bakery or Jen's Bakery of of Alpha Road. I will never come back to CR again and I will stick with Stein's and Jen's. read more
