I missed Val's so bad that I had to find his latest location. Things were so busy for me with me being so far north of Dallas now, that I told myself I must make it back down to VAL'S. I got the Baebae this weekend and what I thought I would be done eating over 3 days pretty much vanished over night. I found this place when it was on Greenville with the small mason spring jars. Then they moved off of Oaklawn and I made my way there too. I use the mason jars now without the springs for my sourdough baking. Picture inserted...Thank you!!! I ordered 2 cheesecakes for my Sister and Family for Christmas. One was a Turtle and the other was a Traditional with sides of blueberry and raspberry topping. I received impeccable service from both the Owner Val and his assistant. I live in Alaska and they were so informative, friendly and went out of their way to help me decide on my order and get it delivered to my Sister in Hickory Creek, TX. I wasn't there to taste the cheesecakes however, my Sister said they were astounding and the whole Family absolutely loved their dessert! So if I tell you that I found this place by scrolling through Facebook (you know those ads we all hate) but I watched the story of how this place was founded and decided that I would stop by next time I was in the area. So the shack is located right off Maple, however this is limited parking in front so you are better off parking around the corner and just walking there. When I got there I had to wait a moment to catch the attention of the lady inside. We talked about various options and I decided on 3 (yes three!) jars - the classic strawberry cheesecake, the cookies and cream and the turtle. She told me that they would stay good in my fridge for 2 weeks or I could freeze them and they are good for 2 months. As for seating, it's limited at this location. I mean it's called the shack for a reason however there was one table and a few chairs for you to enjoy your treat and watch the cars as they pass by but I took mine home to enjoy in the comfort of my home (which equated to drowning my feelings while watching the cowboys get beat). So as of this review I've only had the classic cheesecake and it was delicious. Just enough cheesecake where I didn't feel like I would have to walk a mile the next day, it wasn't so sweet that you couldn't take more than two bites and overall just a great consistency. I won't lie, I wish that there were more strawberries but it was just so good I wanted more. The only draw back. What to do with the glass jar once you are done with it? Yeah recycle but I wish that there was a way I could turn it in and get a discount on my next one because I will definitely be back. The jar cost $6 and some change and the slice was $8 so I may splurge and get a slice vs a jar but I wouldn't be mad if someone presented me with a jar as a pick me up or "hey I was thinking of you!" Great product, definitely worth the try! So I've gone back and had the cookies & cream. Could be that it sat cold in my fridge for a couple of days however this was a much more dense cheesecake. Found this gem on Instagram last Monday since it was National Cheesecake Day. We went to the Maple location after dinner to get dessert here. I am so glad we found this spot! We ordered two jars; Greenville Ave and Lovers Lane. The Greenville Ave jar was a mint chocolate flavor. The Lovers Lane was a red velvet flavor. They did not disappoint! Now a couple of days later I found out if you bring your jars back they will offer you a discount. So naturally I went back and had two more flavors lol. This time it was Lemmon Ave and Bae. The Lemmon Ave hit the spot! So if you like lemon flavored desserts this will more than satisfy you! The Bae flavor was decadent and will definitely fulfill a sweet tooth craving. I'm not a huge cheesecake person, but I absolutely love Val's cheesecakes!! I've never been disappointed by any of the cheesecakes I've tried from Val's and can always confidently recommend the cheesecake hut to my friends when they're in the area. I really like the concept of cheesecake in a jar (it's so instagrammable lol) but I've tried the slices and they're very good too!! My absolute favorite is Lover's Lane. So I arrived little spot didn't know where to park so I parked in the parking lot for the restaurant next door. Decided to try "THE SHACK" with a group of friends, we ended up buying 8 different flavours of their new twist top mason jars ($6 each). The taste was delicious but incredibly overpriced. I'd only ever seen their Clamp Top Mason Jars which looked a good size, but the twist top jars are small. You can only get the Clamp Top Jars on special order for events/preorder. The twist top jar is the equivalent of 4 bites of cheesecake as I was only able to fill my spoon more than half way 4 times. That's just too little cheesecake for $6. It is absolutely much more worth your money to get the slices instead of the jars. Slices are $8 a piece and are regularly sized. You can also buy the entire wheel of cheesecake but it'll run you close to $50 (I saw a speciality one online for $65!). You also need to give them 48 hours notice which means you need to order before and can't walk up to get it. No one in my group was satisfied with their portion sizes and all wished it wasn't so pricey. But the taste was phenomenal! I tried the Lover's Lane (Red Velvet) and Cookies-n-Cream Cheesecakes. Both tasted amazing and were still cold when I ate them an hour later. I would recommend both! Royal Lane was a surprise hit. Gluten free options NOT available at this location. Must go to Greenville location for GF options. Not open Monday's. No seating, only window service- very small, additional parking in back. read more

This place has the best cheesecakes you will ever taste! I can admit, at one point I was addicted and driving 30 minutes both ways just to get a slice or two. I'm still addicted but I'm not going as much because I live further BUT you all need to go. My favorite is the banana pudding cheeses cake and no it does not have bananas on it which is smart because it allows you to preserve the cheesecake longer. So I saw a post on Instagram. It was a photo of Val's mint cheesecake with Oreo crust. My parents were coming in town the following week and we were celebrating my sons first birthday (lots of cake) but also wanted to have a little celebration the night before for my moms birthday before they left town and I knew this cheesecake was the ticket! And this was the day that the temperature dropped to below freezing even though it was in the 70s in the morning. Val's probably only has 2 spots of its own, but I think you can either park along the street or maybe sneak into the Grapevine's parking lot if you're quick. We walked up to the window, and the employee was really friendly and helpful in explaining how everything works and what their most popular flavors were. I went with the original cheesecake with strawberry topping, and I'm so glad I did! My cheesecake came in a cute little jar (which you can keep). The cheesecake was really smooth and not too sweet, and it definitely hit the spot. I can't wait to try a bunch of other flavors (nutella and oreo included). I tried this location before and didn't realize it was black owned. Since realizing that I wanted to support again. The costumer service was great. They had limited sections since business has been booming. Upon my arrival they only had the mini jars available. We decided to order the Turtle Cheesecake. It was delicious! If I was to provide constructive feedback, I would suggest switching the minis to a different container. The small mini is $6 and I feel that most of that is due to the cost of the glass container. I wonder if switching to a different container would bring down the cost. I spent $21 for 3 mini cheesecakes. At that rate, I would have preferred to just buy and entire cheesecake. I met the one of the owner and he was super sweet. He recommended the Lover lane aka red velvet which I was totally in love. The packaging is on fleek. They come in a little cute jar filled of happiness. The price is a little steep, but that's probably because of the cost for the jars and high quality ingredients. Another unique thing about this place is the brisket cheesecake. Yes, you've heard right. Cheesecake with brisket. While my boyfriend thinks it's super weird to mix savory and sweet, I think it's very creative. They were able to balance it very well. Overall, if you like food, you must give this awesome place a try. 4 star for the cheesecake and an extra star for creativity. Val's Cheesecakes is a very small shop located just near the corner of Maple and Shelby Ave in Dallas. Atmosphere: This is like a snow cone stand in principal. It's a window, with the menu on either side, where you place and receive your order. There are a couple of small tables out front and a long bar that goes around the front and side. It's functional and does its job. It's also painted a bright royal blue, so you really can't miss it. 1 Star Service: I mean, it was as good as could be expected I assume. The employee at the window greeted us and took our orders and then gave us our orders and asked if there was anything else he could help us with. I can't really deduct a star because what little service you get is very good. 2 Stars Food: Cheesecakes. That's it. That's what they do and they do it very well. They sell a few by the slice, but their niche is cheesecakes in jars. The portions are pretty small, but definitely enough for a single person. You just don't want to be sharing them with anyone. If someone tries to take your Val's Cheesecake u politely smack them on the hand and tell them to get their own. They are that delicious. And if for some reason you don't eat all of yours (highly unlikely) or someone else doesn't finish it off (very likely) then you can simply screw the lid back on and eat it later. Very nifty. I highly recommend buying extra for later and keeping them in the fridge. We ordered the "Sea Salt Mocha" (wife loved it), the "Lover's Lane" which is Red Velvet (daughter devoured it), and the "Royal Lane" which is White Chocolate Cheesecake with Orange Zest and topped with Blueberry Preserves (I should have gotten 2 more!) 2 Stars Overall Impression: Such a cute little spot to stop and grab some easy to eat on the go cheesecakes. What has got me is the price! $8 for a slice!! If you tell me that your using organic cream cheese from grass fed cows, free ranged pasture fed eggs, non GMO and only natural flavorings and ingredients .... then I can relate to the exorbitant charges. However if this is just yo momma baking a cheesecake that taste good. You need to knock a dollar or two off the price if you want to see me on the regular.
