I was instantly reminded why it is such a Dallas GEM! I did not pop in to eat this time, but to find a nice spot to work with a friend on our laptops and yap over a coffee! And while we weren't planning to do much, the experience was still a 10/10! I ended up ordering a White Chocolate latte and it was AMAZING! You can tell they actually put time and effort into their coffee and lattes! Everything is also brewed fresh! Which I love! My friend ordered a artesian hot chocolate and wow! It was probably some of the best hot chocolate I have ever had! It was def made with real cocoa! We did end up splurging on some pastries, because DUH! It's it so hard to ignore the bakery section when it is so stunning and filled with beautiful baked goods! I got a oreo croissant and tortuga concha! I did not eat them (My bf did) but they looked so great! I did try my friends banana custard filled bread and that was great! I would go back for it! Overall, we ended up sitting inside of their beautiful space for hours, just talking and catching up! It was amazing and comfy! We def want to return for some of their dinner and drink specials too! Highly recommend!

Based on our count, we were around #40, #41, and #42, so we should have been within the first 50 people to receive the free bag. However, by the time we made it inside, they had already run out. The biggest issue was the lack of organization. There was no ticketing or clear system to keep track of who was actually in line. We also noticed people arriving later and joining friends and family who were already in line, which made the whole process feel unfair. I understand openings can be hectic, but when you're advertising something for the first 50 customers, there should be a system in place to make sure those who actually waited in line are counted. We got there extremely early for a reason, so it was definitely disappointing to miss out because of poor crowd control.

I started with the croque monsieur, and it was exactly what I was craving. The cheese was perfectly melted and bubbly, and that hint of dill on top really pulled it all together. For dessert, the chocolate kouign-amann was a total standout, super crispy on the outside with those rich, sweet layers inside. I paired it with an iced chai latte, which was perfectly spiced and not overly sweet. They have a small outdoor seating section that is perfect for catching some fresh air while you eat. The filling tasted fresh although I wished they added some mango chunks and didn't use that much thickener so the mango filling has a more natural flow and texture. 4/5 The green coconut was 2nd. It's pandan flavor and I always appreciate the more natural green color. Its not too sweet and appeals perfectly to an Asian parent like mine 2.5/5 Coffee caramel was our least favorite. It was too sweet and lacked the depth and caramelized sugar taste. I tasted mostly coffee and there was no texture to prevent it from being so one note aside from the chocolate shell. Personally think this one needs more R&D. I should've tried the other coffee ones. Was expecting a gooey caramel filling and a richer, darker coffee :( I love these kinds of desserts and am very picky but I will be back to try more! Everything felt casual and welcoming, with an old-fashioned charm that made the space feel really special. The staff were super nice too and gave us really good recommendations. We ordered the Bonnie and Pie'd. It's a coffee, toffee, and chocolate pie. The chocolate gave it that rich, deep sweetness, while the coffee brought in a little bitterness that kept everything from becoming too sweet. Then those little hits of toffee, adding a buttery, caramel-like flavor and a bit of chewiness. The graham cracker crust was probably my favorite part of the texture. It had that toasted, slightly salty crunch that worked really well with the soft filling. It was rich without being overwhelming, and every bite had something different going on. Unfortunately, when I arrived shortly after 11:30 AM to pick up a cake that was supposed to be ready at 9:00, it wasn't finished. After multiple trips to the back by staff and nearly 25 minutes of waiting, I was finally told my cake had been placed in the wrong area and they were just then working on it. By the time I received the cake, my party had already started. The cake itself was clearly rushed. The writing was sloppy, the piping was uneven, and the overall finish looked nothing like the quality I expected based on what was promised. I understand custom cakes won't be identical to inspiration photos, but this wasn't even executed well as a much simpler version. What was most disappointing was the lack of accountability. Beyond a quick apology for being behind, there was no effort to make the situation right despite a three-hour delay on a prepaid order for a time-sensitive event. This was a special occasion, and the experience added unnecessary stress to an important day. Unfortunately, this will be my last time ordering a cake from Cretia's.
