While visiting some friends in the Dallas area over Valentine's Day weekend, they insisted we had to stop at Joy Macarons. I am SO glad they did. The warm, sweet aroma greeted us the second we cracked the door. Inside, the shop was bright, colorful, and instantly cheerful with a welcoming staff member to match. It was cold and rainy during our visit, so we passed on the macaron ice cream sandwiches this time. They looked absolutely incredible though and I am still thinking about what I missed days later. The team member that helped us was fantastic. She walked us through every flavor and gave us the cutest bookmark-style menu that doubled as the perfect souvenir. We left with an adorable box of six macarons. Each one delivered exactly what its flavor promised. They were perfectly balanced, beautiful, and delicious. Everything is gluten free including the waffle cones!!! When you walk in the door you are met with wonderful smells and a beautiful display. We've had their macron ice cream sandwiches at other restaurants, but this was our first time in the store. The staff were very helpful and we were able to talk for a while and answer some questions that was very helpful for when we return. We were having dinner in the area and decided to stop on by try out Joy Macarons. It's two stores down from NEONY Pizza Works. It's a tiny little shop with tons of treats to try. We mainly went for the Macarons and ended up taking home an ice cream sandwich as well. They were all good. I had my first macaron in Paris at Ladurée and fell in love with them, so we had to try these here at Joy Macarons. To me, it's very hard to compete with Ladurée macarons, but these are just as good. We got 3 pistachio, because those are our favorite, a vanilla bean one and a salted caramel. I love this block of buildings, because these are old school buildings that have been there since I could remember living in Oak Cliff as a kid but they are renovated of course. What stands out about Joy is the variety of flavors they have and the ones they introduce in rotation. By far, my go-to's have always been the Honey Lavender, Rose Berry, Strawberry, and the Italian Creme. Please note that some of my pictures have seasonal flavors that they may not currently have - so reference the menu on their website for updated seasonal flavors. For example, the pictures of the macaron ice cream below show the earl grey tea flavor. I've also had the guava macaron ice cream (both i strongly recommend if they still make them). While i since relocated to Los Angeles where I'm a hop, skip, and jump away from Ladurée, I can honestly say when I'm in town, I always stop by Joy -- either a treat for myself, my mom, my grandmother, or any of the gorgeous queens in my life. read more

I love the exterior and interior I love the color combination I love the smell as soon as you walk in the joyous personality from the worker in the inside. She was so friendly I was like wow! While hanging around Bishop Arts District, we decided to check out Joy Macarons while we in the area. It's about a 15 min walk or so from that area up Davis, or a few minutes drive, i think half mile from Bishop Ave. Small little shop with nice display of their macarons. We decided to get a sixer...aka six pack of some assorted flavors. Can't remember exactly what we all got but they were tasty. Most macarons are on the pricey side, and these were just that as well. They were delicious and nicely made, good crack when you take that bite. Nice little indulgence to have in my book. Staff was friendly and welcoming when we came by, they have ice cream pints and sandwiches too but we didn't try any this time around. Overall, glad we put this spot on our itinerary. read more

The most beautiful macaroon shop ever! I looked like the paparazzi taking pictures of the eclectic decor and pristine vibes :) Loved all of the various options! Oh Joy Macarons!! I wanted to like you so bad but I couldn't. Joy Macarons' Instagram got me drooling on my phone, so I knew I had to make a visit. This place is purely dedicated to macarons, and the display is on point. What aren't on point are the texture and the taste. The crusts were too brittle. Pretty much if you touch them, they'll fall apart depending on your luck. The center parts of the cookies were pretty chewy. I guess I'm just not use to that texture. The 6 flavors I got were pistachio, rose and lychee, vanilla, lavender, salted caramel, and chocolate. The flavors didn't really correspond to what they were, and most of them tasted too floral for me. They were also way too sweet. For $2 each, it was small. Let me start by saying, it breaks my heart to leave a subpar review for Joy. I've been a loyal customer of theirs for many (many) years. Far before they had the Greenville or Fort Worth locations. Their macarons used to be my go to, special treat. I've worked in bakeries before that sold macarons, so I understand the labor and skill that go into making them well. And previously, they were perfect. I'm talking chewy exterior, impactful flavors, and soft melt in your mouth fillings. However, over the years their quality has declined significantly. I've given them multiple tries, but the last few visits have left a sour taste in my mouth. Most recently, I came by with a friend to grab a box of macarons. We sampled all my go-to flavors: lavender/honey, pistachio, almond, but missed the dark chocolate (which was no longer on the menu). The macarons were not chewy but rather dry and hollow. The top of the shell was bumpy and matte (they should be smooth and have a slight sheen). The filling was not melt-in your mouth, but rather overly sweet and the portion was far too much for shell ratio. I was disappointed, as my friend had heard me rave about the macarons in the past and we both agreed that these were mediocre. I was hoping my previous visits were off days, but I simply can't justify the cost of the macarons when their quality is more comparable to grocery store macarons than a bakery. I'm not sure what's going on: new baker? quality control loss from expansion? trying to save money? Not sure. What I do know is that these used to be my favorite macarons and they've lost my business. I'll probably cash out my rewards on a final visit and start looking for my new spot. If management sees this review, please consider doing a quality control assessment of your products. The new menu items (icecream) is great, but they can't compensate for the decline in your main product. read more

It would appear the macaron is in the midst of a bit of a resurgence here in DFW, as it was only a few weeks ago that I checked out nearby Bisous Bisous Patisserie (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bisous-bisous-p%C3%A2tisserie-dallas) and had an experience that was remarkably similar to what I encountered here at Joy Macarons. Good? Yes. The best macarons I've ever had? Not so much. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Joy Macaron's location is on the rise, but for the time being it's a tad bit of an oddball compared to trendy Bishop Arts and Trinity Groves. Either way, this will be a hot location in the coming years, and Joy Macarons has some great real estate. My server was gorgeous to start, but she was friendly and knowledgeable as well. Couldn't ask for more (except her number maybe?) Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Macarons are complicated treats that you can't just find anywhere, so I expect to pay a premium especially considering they're boxed all fancy like. Joy Macarons charged me $12 for six macarons, which mathed out to be $2.00 per macaron. That's fair considering Ladurée in NYC charges $2.69 per macaron and Bisous Bisous was $2.17. Fair. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Once again similar to Bisous Bisous my macarons weren't bad, but they were extremely inconsistent. Let's break it down - Vanilla Bean: This was unfortunately the dud of the group, with weak flavor, and hard outer biscuit, and and extremely chewy interior to the point of being detrimental to the macron. Hazelnut: Better. Decent flavor, but still a bit off with regard to texture. As I've stated prior, my perfect macaron has an airy outer biscuit that you don't even know is there until you bite into in combination with an only slightly chewy but potently flavorful interior. Hazelnut had that flavor, but lacked in the texture. Butter Pecan: Now we're talking. Oh me oh my this was the perfect macaron if ever there was one. Amazing flavor, perfect texture, and a uniqueness that comes from not being able to find such a flavor elsewhere. Brilliant. Chocolate: Very similar to Hazelnut: great flavor, but mediocre texture. Salted Caramel (2): Salted caramel is typically my favorite of the bunch, but the two salted caramel macarons that I got were weak in both flavor and texture. There was some greatness here, but a lot of inconsistency. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I can't say Joy Macarons was any better or worse than Bisous Bisous, and in that I didn't give them the fifth star, I can't give it here. No Star Granted. read more
