The owner Eric is a wonderful person and is passionate about his food and restaurant. Every meal is delicately prepared and is always prepared to perfection. Exceptional Food! We were driving through Northern Utah and used Yelp to find this gem in Bountiful. Now this is during the Corona Virus Pandemic. So we call Joy Luck (and note we are going to arrive at closing) time but they wait for us and make our dish (Almond Chicken & Cream Cheese Won Tons) fresh and bring it out to our car. 39 minutes later we are in our hotel up the road in Ogden and our food is still piping hot an absolutely incredibly delicious!!! The hot and sour soup was awful. The chicken was very tough, ham fried rice had no flavor. The egg roll was a joke-nearly hollow. The cream cheese wontons tasted old and tough. They have gotten to know us so very well, they make it a point to welcome us by name and know which items on the menu we usually order - (Gluten Free). Eric the owner lets us know when there is something new they are trying and we will be the crash test dummies for the gluten free items. Bryan is usually our server and is so very welcoming and friendly. We've loved the food and they will make it as spicy as we want it and they have never let us down or disappointed us in anything we've ordered. The only improvement I can suggest is bringing on different types of Saki (Pearl and Purple Haze for example). Their liquor selection isn't too shabby for Woods Cross either. Our first time at Joy Luck, but it will not be our last. The food here is quite good and deserving of four stars for sure. But the thing that makes this place a five star is the service. We were happily attended to by our server who never let our drinks fall below the halfway mark. The food came quickly and at a perfect serving temperature. Management stopped by our table a couple of times and seemed genuinely interested in our experience. Traveling on business and tried this eating establishment based on the previous reviews being in the 4 star average. All those before me were not wrong. Clean, friendly and professional staff, food was served quickly and had good presentation. The meal I had, Orange Chicken, was only 6.95 and came with salad or soup. Great Chinese food and probably the friendliest staff you'll ever meet. I would say we are regulars here. As others have commented, they are VERY accommodating to allergies. I was very pleased with this place. We came because the restaurant we originally wanted was closed for the holiday. I was nervous at first because it's near a residential area and the outside doesn't look like much. However, I loved it. Each meal was about $6 for lunch so it was also reasonably priced. It was clean and I liked how the seating was sectioned. They were patient with my two year old running around the table. I don't normally let him do that, but it wasn't busy so I wasn't too bothered. Sat down and immediate noticed the unusual and bad lighting, too many different light colors. My lunch partner had an ultra white bright luminescent spotlight fixed on him, which was annoying. My friend and I, ordered two lunch specials: Orange chicken and Cashew Chicken with an appetizer of cheese wontons. Our lunch specials came with a soup or salad option, we both chose the egg drop soup. The soup was unnaturally gelatinous and lukewarm, we would have enjoyed it more if it had been hot and less gelatinous. The cheese wontons were good. Hot, crunchy, and were brought to the table promptly. The Orange Chicken simply did not live up to its rich, savory description on the menu. It's was not warm and lacked the sweet taste I would associate with authentic Orange Chicken. The slice of orange in the sauce was about as orangy as it got. Rice was cold. Eggroll was delicious. Average Chinese food. Some delicious things, others sub par, others no bueno. Went here yesterday with a big group (table for 12 please!) for lunch and had to wait awhile to sit... They just weren't ready for a big group! That's fine though, and it wasn't any surprise. Just keep in mind you might wait awhile if you have a big group. I had a dish called Sa Te, and it was pretty good, but not amazing. My wife had Mongolian Beef, which was good but strangely very sweet. We both chose to have soup with our dishes, I had the Hot & Sour, and my wife had Egg Drop soup. Neither were good. The hot and sour was waaaaay sour, and the Egg Drop was flavorless and just way different than any egg drop soup I've ever seen or tried... Very strange. My go to's for the he hubby and I hands down is the boneless spare ribs and orange chicken. The spare ribs has this amazing sauce all over it that takes me back to my childhood and orange chicken was pungent and strong in garlic flavor not your typical Chinese flavor. But better! So tasty and never changes. Orange chicken was perfectly coated and not your typical dipped all batter little bits of chicken dish. Banging on flavors for both..soooooooo good. My favorite spot!! Food is Americanized Chinese, which I rarely (read: almost never) personally choose, though it is fresh (visit was during an off-lunch time, but I detected no microwaving) and very well-done here, almost a bridge between more authentic places and the run-of-the-mill Americanized Chinese joints clotting up the landscape. It has been a fixture and meant something to the area for quite some time and it definitely caters to the area, so if you go here, most probably you're using forks and spoons instead of chopsticks and you will not find regular rice as an accompaniment to any of the entrees. You will find a lot of space, if you have large groups, though, so one could easily hold a party here. The service is very friendly and they're unquestionably concerned about their guests being happy with the food. Decor is also immaculate. The menu is fairly standard, though there are quite a few novel entries on there I've not seen anywhere else. I opted to play it safe, as I usually do at this kind of place and stick to shrimp dishes, as shrimp, to my knowledge, is not available in particle form as is chicken, beef and pork...at least not yet. From what I saw, though, they use a higher quality ingredient and not the particle meat, but it's possible it was just better disguised. I could have used a lot more shrimp on the plate and the sauce was a bit bland. The dish overall was also smaller than I would have liked, but was overall perfectly serviceable. All said, I wouldn't make the drive specifically to go to this place, but, differing again from almost every other Americanized Chinese joint I can think of, I wouldn't turn it down or otherwise object, either... read more
