I could barely see the pastries in the case. No worries though, I saw what I came in for. Purchased a French baguette for $3.70. Beyond amazed at the price. Excited to have some with my coffee, I ripped off a piece almost immediately and noticed the nice crust on the outside. 5 stars for the crust!! As for the flavor, it seemed a little flat. It was lacking some of the wheaty-tangy flavor you would get from a longer prove/fermentation. The inside of it was also missing all those nice deep pockets you see in a French baguette. Overall, not a bad baguette, but not one that you yearn for. I'd like to mention the young lady Annabel I had the privilege of meeting outside of the bakery. She was on a delivery run, but told me about their IG page, and we had a wonderful chat about cookies. Thank you for your time, Annabel, you are awesome!

I hope to return someday to try the pies. Oh and shout out to the positive and inclusive signage and flyers!

The crust on the mixed berry pie ($10) was buttery and the filling was tart which I appreciate. I thought there may have been a bit too much crumble on top but it was so good can you really have too much?? The earl grey scone ($5) was spot on flavor-wise and wasn't too sweet. The chocolate chip cookie ($3) actually blew me away. It has a high fat/butter content so the edges are crispy and the rest is gooey. Chocolate chips in every bite and the sea salt brings it all together. Probably one of the best cookies I've ever eaten.

I travel up here for work on occasion and it was a great place for me to purchase fresh donuts instead of the ones down in SLO specially if I wasn't down there already. Overall, The vibe here is more cozy but it is also in a busier location because of the location of the movie theater. I've driven by here hundreds of times but never realize that it was hiding in plain sight. All of my usual favorites are here. There's always a lot of the fancy looking donuts and my personal favorites are the creampuffs. These are probably one of the best creampuffs I've ever had. They're almost like larger donut holes with cream in there. They're just wonderful. I've always wanted to try some of the drinks that they have here but I've always only purchased the donuts and creampuffs here. The last time I was here, the team was very friendly and helpful and they were able to get me in and out of there in a matter of minutes. I needed roughly 5-10 mins to look over all of the options before making my selections. There is a front case with all of the specialty donuts and a whole back wall with the classics donuts. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement. As a group of 4 we decided to order several donuts to share. We ordered the blueberry cake, pecan pie raised, mashed potato raised, lavender with sprinkles raised, pumpkin cheesecake, espresso filled, pumpkin brûlée bites, and a jalapeño ham and cheese croissant. The donuts are very beautifully decorated and the time that was spent decorating them shows. The customer service was patient, kind and very helpful. Some of the funky donuts such as the mashed potato raised donut is actually vanilla flavored and thankfully the person helping us was patient enough to tell us all of the flavors. All of the donuts were delicious. No complaints what so ever. As for the prices, they were listed above and everything is a fair price for speciality donuts. Additionally, they offered a very generous 25% discount for military. Inside there were seating options surrounding a fire place, bar style seating, and some options outdoors.

Wherever you lived in L.A, you likely were partial to the delis nearest to you. For me I was partial to Nate n' Als, Label's Tables, and Langers. Each place had their own style. So it goes without saying that I have my own opinion of what I like in a corned beef sandwich. Get together with a person from New York, and get ready for an argument ;-) It's not always easy to find deli's that serve the kind of corned beet I grew up eating. It's got to be made there, stacked high enough, tender, just the right amount of fat, warm, moist and brined just right. Johnny Boy's nailed it. I got a Reuben, without the cheese. The rye was toasted and buttered or oiled just right, the sauerkraut spot on, and the corned beef delicious and ample. There was some extra spiciness that I liked, which almost made me think it was pastrami. I don't know if it was in the corned beef or in the sauerkraut or Russian dressing. Boy was it tasty. I was delighted they had chopped liver, not something you find everywhere. Nate n' Als used to make the best chopped liver. Light and sweet in both flavor and its appearance. Johnnyboys' was darker in appearance, creamy, and creative in its presentation. They placed cut up pickled cucumbers and onions on top of it. Delicious. Again, I felt it was generous in it's serving size along with some rye bread. And I must say, their prices were much lower compared to many of the better deli's I've been to in bigger cities. We ate outside, and because of the way it faces, we were nicely shaded. For those unfamiliar with Atascadero, it can get pretty hot. I liked that it was off the main drag, and it faced an office machinery store which took me back to my childhood. It's a quaint street with some cute stores and small eateries, a pie place next door, and some coffeehouse. Pull over if you're traveling on 101 and you're ready to eat or want to bring home dinner or lunch. I was on my way North to see my brother and he said, "We don't have a good deli here. Next time bring me a corned beef sandwhich". I will :-)

Of course, whenever I think of a Jewish one, Pastrami, Corned Beef, pickles, bagels, are top of mind. Cute outside seating, a few deli refrigerators filled with amazing delights, bagels atop, and a busy busy ordering kitchen. At 11am, all the magic was complete in the back baking kitchen. Note: Closed Monday's and Tuesday's, dang it. It has a small menu, but it's mighty. I ordered a couple of bagels "to go", $3 each, and the next day, I had one and it was amazing with a great chewy texture. But the main item was a Corned Beef Reuben [$extra meat$ -- which I did]...wow. One of the best I've had. The meat was almost shaved, not sliced, and I loved the softness with each bite. [Significant update] I was a little disgusted at what I saw. The cashier dude had the dirtiest cap I've ever seen with old sweat stains. The cook had massive hair and no hair net or hat. Yucka.

Our normal order is pasole and brown rice bowl. Pasole our past few times has been lukewarm and lacking flavor. This past visit we waited 45 minutes for our food and saw most of our plates getting cold at the window. We had to ask our for a status of our order when normally we have never waited more then 10-15 minutes. Food was again barely hot. The brown rice bowl was dry and is now missing ingredients and no longer is anywhere near the same dish as it was. They didn't even put the pesto (magic green sauce) in it. It's as if there is a new chef running things cheaper now. Today as we woke up planning to go to paso for wine tasting and our group had zero interest in going there for breakfast due to past experiences. It no longer is our go to breakfast spot which is sad. Also we have noticed on our past visit that front of the house staff and back of the house staff didn't seem to be communicating well. At one point we watched one employee working with the a cook and the cook just stared at the employee ignoring her. When there is communication breakdown in a restaurant this begins the gradual death of a business. Hopefully they can clean it up fast. We may give this place one last shot but if it's just ok quality we won't be back. The food is too pricey to just had bland lukewarm food.

I happened to be up in Atascadero with my daughter during their opening hours, fortunately, and stopped in. The last few times I'd tried to come here they weren't open, so I was excited. They seemed understaffed, with only 2 people I think, but quickly greeted us, took our order, and helped get our outdoor table ready. There was a bunch of road construction and my daughter wanted to watch the tractors and trucks. Nice little nook in the corner of the shopping center, decent seating inside and a handful outside. I ordered the cuban sandwich, I like them but so many around SLO county are just not good. Well, this came out on a beautiful bread roll and was packed full of the meats. The pickles and mustard were perfect, the ratios were great, it was a mouthful. The bread was baked excellent and really the stand out, as it should be at a bakery. That said, this is a sandwich I'd happily drive up 41 to get again. Can't wait to come back and try more sandwiches and hopefully come home with some fresh baked bread.
