I have been to Jongro a couple of times in the last month around 6 PM on a Sunday night both times. Each time though the restaurant was busy it was not too crowded so we were seated right away. Even as a party of two they still seat you in a pretty private booth which is nice. The service at Jongro is so quick and efficient. They take your order right away and get the food out to you quickly. The only item that took a while to come out though was the naengymeon. Both times I have ordered the marinated meat combo. Flavor and quality of the meats is very good. The servers cook each combo of meat one at a time and give you some time to eat the meat before they start working on the next selection of meats. Each combo also comes with steamed egg, banchans, corn cheese and a small order of intestines. Everything had a great flavor and the meat was very tender. There is so much food and we ended up having a lot of leftovers to take home. The naengmyeon's flavor was really good though it was a little spicy. There were a lot of components to the dish but the items went well together and the noodles were cooked perfectly well for both that soft but slightly chewy texture. I have been getting the name of this restaurant wrong for years! I always thought it was JUngro, which I think means the "right way" in Korean. But I was meeting some co-workers here for lunch and realized it is JOngro, which is not a Korean word I know. I think I like my version better because it would be an apt description of how they prepare their food. Although finding the right way in can be confusing because there are no signs telling you to take the elevator to the second floor. I went with their lunch special and got the kalbi/short rib (with co-workers so a little formal for my usual LA style) and cold noodle soup. With food prices going up, the lunch special is a pretty good deal! I douse the noodle soup in vinegar and mustard and the noodles and broth hold up well. The kalbi is tender and pretty flavorful although i could use a little more char and a little more flavor. For the lunch special, the meat is cooked in the kitchen so we miss out on the tabletop grilling but we also do not walk out with the BBQ smell on our clothes so perfect for a working lunch. There are probably only a couple of places where the BBQ is The decor is old school and the space is huge, and service was attentive. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the city. read more

Heard this place gets busy but it was a weekday afternoon so we took a chance (no reservation) and luckily It worked out. None of us knew what we were in for! Both delish! We each had dipping sauces and extras like marinated onions, salad, and more to complete our plates. Our server cooked our meats for us and idk if that's custom or because it was our first time but she did a great job. Definitely better than I would have done. Ok now I'm sure that must have been customary to prevent wasting/burning meat and fires. I highly recommend also adding a side from their special menu. Again, it's definitely enough to share. They blast retro Korean pop music in there and it seemed like I was at an outdoor Asian bbq party all day and night long. We went with a decent sized group and would recommend reserving ahead of time. It's super popular. In terms of food, it's a standard Korean bbq with all the different types of cuts of meat available. We went with 2 meat platters (1 large beef platter at around $130+ that was supposed to feed 3-4 and 1 regular for around $100+ to feed 2-4) in addition to a lot of other items. Overall, I think the meat portions could be bigger for the price, but that lower quantity to price is something I should have expected from most Korean BBQ spots. They don't offer pitchers of beer or standard pints either. For the price of an Asahi draft ($8-9), it seemed like they poured into a 12-14oz glass instead of a 16oz pint glass. You can't reserve a table for a party of less than 6 but when I come the waiting time is usually less than 15 minutes regardless of the time. I usually go to the second floor and get the beef combo, and I always leave full and pleased. My favorite meat is the wagyu. They bring all of the side dishes and most of them are great. I also love their tofu soup and the eggs, it's just something else. I've been here maybe six times and I'll always come back. They have fast service and the ambiance is nice, clean and smells like amazing food. They never mess up and when they cook your meals they divide equally so that everyone can enjoy. We came to enjoy a Korean style bbq and the meal was spoiled right from the start with the waiter asking us for drinks and then because someone in the party did not have ID, said None of us can drink even though we showed our IDs. WTf? First time I heard that policy. What about if parents bring kids and the parents want to drink? Is that not allowed? We saw the Koreans getting served alcohol with no problem. Also side dishes were coldly brought to our table and not graciously refilled. I had to ask each time for some side dishes to be refilled even though they were clearly running low. Not thoughtful. There also wasn't much variety and didn't taste like much. Only 1 bowl of rice for 3 people?? Seriously? Food was obscenely expensive. 3 thin pieces of LA Galbi was like $43! We also got the Beef platter for $110. Not generous portions. The seafood pancake was the only good thing and also the cheapest at $18. The small soup and separate order of seafood kimchi soup they combined without asking me. The total portion was mediocre and not much taste. Also ambiance was lacking. The seats were rickety and we were shuffled from 5th floor to 2nd floor since when we were coming in they were conveniently "closing" the 5th floor even though it was still bustling. The waiter was grilling our meat brusquely and when he pulled down the exhaust pipe abruptly it knocked my hand I was so scared, Overall will not be back. They still managed to charge us over $250 for 3 people without any drinks! And half assed food and service. The entire meal we ate silently because we were shocked by the bad treatment, we felt strangely unwelcome like we just forced ourselves into their exclusive Korean social club. We will get marinated beef next time as we had the regular beef platter thinking that the sauces would suffice and felt that the flavors could be better if we had gotten marinated.
