I tried Jon David Salon for the first time last week. I cannot express how awesome my hair looks after visiting there. I have never been able to find a good stylist that I've been 100% happy with until now. I chose Caroline because she looked the friendliest in her picture on the Jon David site. I went in for color and a cut. I have never colored my hair before and was extremely nervous. Caroline was absolutely wonderful. I had an idea of what I wanted but wasn't very sure. She walked me through it all and was very conservative when it came to coloring since it was my first time. When the color was all done and washed out, she began to cut it which made me nervous too because I wanted to keep it longish. I eventually told her " just do whatever as long as its semi-long" and I couldn't have been happier with the cut. After the color, cut and blow dry, I was surrounded by other stylist all "ooh"ing and "aah"ing over my hair. I was thrilled. the color is absolutely gorgeous, the cut is fantastic and I get complimented on it ALL of the time!! Hands down, Caroline is the BEST!!!! I have found my go-to stylist. I'm pissed! I had a hair consultation with Qadria 2 weeks prior to my actual appointment I decided to schedule with her. I explained my situation and hair desires. I have been through 3 stylist prior to her and they had failed to give me grey hair. Yes, grey. I like the edgy look of grey hair color. I showed her pictures. I asked, "is this a possible hair color to achieve? If not, don't tell me you can and screw it up" my hair has already been damaged from previous hairstylist bleaching it out, and she was able to see that. She said that yes she could do it. She did test strands with 2 colors we agreed would do the trick. She also said she would use no bleach. Well, guess what? My hair is not grey. It's brown. It's not even close to what I asked for. She also used bleach and my hair is even more damaged now plus not the color I wanted. I was very blunt with her telling her my hair was brown. She insisted it was grey. If I asked 100 people what color my hair is right now I bet my life savings every single one of them would say brown. I should also mention that during this process, they (her and her assistant) managed to burn my scalp. I have a few open sores in the front of my hair line - small, but all the same open sores! After she wanted to charge me $200 for not giving me what I asked for and what was promised to me, I demanded the owner was called. He gave me a 35% discount and offered to fix it next time I came in. Honestly I should have walked out without paying but I have class and manners and didn't come there looking for a handout. I did however leave there without getting even close to what I wanted, really damaged hair, and I'm completely disgusted with this place because I still had to pay anything at all. This was a long story, but I will never be returning. This was a total rip off. Hairstylist act like they are curing cancer and all they do is cut and color hair and most of them can't even get that right. Shame on you! Don't ever promise something you can't deliver. It makes you look awful....and now my very displeased big mouth is going to make sure EVERYONE I can tell my experience with, hears it. Mark my word. read more

The nineties called, particularly Rachel from friends and she wants her hair back...I have long hair and asked for the best stylist they had and was referred to suha. First, she wasn't dressed cute and didn't have nicely styled hair. Second, the salon was filthy. There was caked on hair on top of all the baseboards, the paint was scraped and the contractor work on walls, tiling, molding extra was really shoddy. That all should have been a red flag but I ignored it. If you can't pay attention to detail in your appearance and it looks like the salon owners don't car, why would you pay attention to detail with my hair? I told suha I wanted to keep my same long layered style but just add a few more layers in front. No asked if I currently had any layers in hitherto back and she said just a teeny tiny bit and I asked her to maintain it. When she cut my hair, she made severe, severe huge layers. It was like she didn't listen to me,. She also insisted on cutting it after parting my hair in the middle. I pointed out that I always part on the side and she said "ya, but the layers have to be even from the middle, you'll see" and ignored me. Now, my layers hang shorter on the right than on the left because when you part on the side, some hair has to go a farther differed to fall. It looks sooo lopsided!!!! When she started to go for my long hair in the back and I could see she was about to cut huge layers in, I stopped her and reminded her I didn't want new layers in he back. She replied "I have to make it connect" and then just cut it anyways!!! I wanted to cry!!! read more

I had such a bad experience at this salon. I went on a Saturday, with a prearranged appointment, only to wait nearly two hours to finally be seen. The owner did my cut and was rushed and careless. I was very turned off already by the way he spoke to his employees as he was cutting hair... he was yelling at people, very condescending, and frankly just rude. In the end, the style of my haircut was okay, but there were areas that he totally missed. I had to trim those areas myself when I got home. read more

Ruby Was my stylist - She's newer to the team but that was ok with me! She was amazing. Really listened to what type of cut and color I wanted, Offered options to see which one was best, and was very, VERY attentive to detail. I don't recall her ever leaving the station for more than just a minute or 2 while the color was processing, she would check consistently to make sure it was coming through great - and it did! I finally worked up the courage to find a good salon in the Northern VA. area. I moved up from Orlando a year ago and had been up until recently making trips back down there to visit friends and make an appt. to see Abby my wonderful hairdresser in FL. It was getting to expensive though. I called a couple places that were recommended on various sites and when I called Jon David spoke with a very nice and friendly receptionist. She asked me detailed questions on my hair to match me up with the best hairdresser. Got an appointment a couple days later. As soon as I got to the salon I had a good feeling. Everyone was very nice, friendly, David was awesome. It did take a bit longer than it did with Abby but worth the wait!!! My only qualm is that there are three different people involved in coloring, washing, and blowdrying- so I felt an obligation to tip all people involved. Well worth it. I will go back!! read more

I absolutely love this hair salon. My stylist is Loany and she does great work with cut and color on my curly hair. She is passionate about hair and she is also very personable. She was very accommodating when I was on a tight schedule having just had a baby and needing to get back home within a couple of hours. She is easy to talk to but not overly invasive or chatty, she is focused on what she is doing with your hair rather than socializing, and she is willing to give advice and explain her haircut techniques. The Salon is clean and comfortable. They always offer a drink and they do not push hair products on you. FYI tips are cash only but they do have an ATM. read more

I am one of those lovely ladies who adores untraditional hair colors! I went to Caroline at Jon David Salon with a near impossible mission. I had a standard hair stylist before this, however, she went on maternity leave (and she was okay... decent color jobs that faded quickly). Her replacement she recommended ended up frying off a section of my hair (the front bang section, so you can imagine how horrifying that looked) and leaving me with bright-pink straw for the rest. I looked for master colorists in the area, because I knew I was in trouble and could ended up with a buzzed head) and Jon David Salon came up. I called and they placed me with Caroline. She ended up being the best hair stylist I have ever gone to! She took the time needed to not only save what hair she could, but to get me back to an amazing color (a beautiful purple-pink that ombres to a lighter pink on the tips) and gave me a cut that I absolutely adore. She also gave me 2 deep conditioning treatments and stayed an hour past closing to make sure everything was perfect! Yes, it was pricey to fix, but worth every single penny. I've never had this many people compliment my hair before (and I usually am drawn to colors that make people speak up) as both the color job and the cut were beyond amazing. The other nice thing about the color is that even after 4 weeks, it's holding the color (the ombre has become more pronounced, but that was expected). I had made an appointment at Salon Mint because of all the Yelp reviews but I had to wait about 2 months to see Min or Audrey so when I was telling my friend that I had to wait so long he suggested I go to Jon David Salon in Springfield. I was cautious but he promised David would get me in the next day. I took a chance and got my hair done here. When I first got there I had my children with me (age 9 and 3) while they waited for their grandpa to pick them up. The staff was very friendly to my girls and to me. They offered me drinks several times and were very courteous. The girl that blow dried my hair did a great job applying my color and doing my blow dry. David did my cut. He moved his hands so fast (like Edward Scissorhands) and I was scared my hair would look crazy. I was totally off. As you can see from the pics on my profile my hair looks great. And to top it all off, I got a call yesterday from someone at the salon as a courtesy checking up on how I liked my experience. Mike is a MAGICIAN. I have dark blonde, greying hair. For a while Mike helped me cover the grey and add highlights. Then I decided to simply blend my white/grey roots into the right highlights and Mike did it! It looks SO GOOD. I obviously have some grey and white, but Mike blended it all together in a way that doesn't make it so obvious. And, his cuts are great. Like all stylists, the longer I go to him, the better he knows my hair and the better he does. He also just gave my tween with long, thick hair a great cut. Either salon charges to much and as a routine disrespect the client. This includes the 2 owners. You make an appointment with one person to fix your hair and once they get your hair washed, half way through the hair cut they have a trainee finish it up. I do not pay the high prices to have a trainee fix my hair. I pay for the professional. I make an appointment for a particular time and after you wait and wait to get your hair washed, they take 2 people after me and fix their hair first. I'm tired of it and will not be back. read more

First, I have to say I rarely if ever feel compelled to write reviews so that fact that I am taking the time to do is indicative of how strongly I feel, especially when the reviews on yelp was one of the reasons I decided to go to Jon David in Springfield in the first place. I booked an appointment with David several days in advance so I thought I was good and confirmed for a great individualized relaxing warm experience. Sadly, this was not the case. I had been growing my hair for a couple of years and wanted to cut it short (it was down to the middle of my back). I wanted a vibrant, sassy, sexy, dramatic yet classy and elegant cut that was fun and different. I would completely agree with some of the other reviews that described the experience like being in a factory. When I arrived, I was greeted right away but not warmly and escorted to a sitting area.. Now, I did not have to wait long..maybe 5 minutes and was then taken to another sitting area...this is where I waited for a while longer...about 15-20 minutes. This is when David finally greeted me and asked me what I wanted to do. It was obvious he was rushed and very busy. I told him that I wanted to go short and dramatic since I have had very long hair for a while and wanted a color touch up for the grays. We did not converse long at all and at that point, I thought one of two things...either he is just so good that he just "gets it" or he has no clue what I want so I was bracing myself but was still optimistic and hoping for the best. I had my color touch up done by another person (I assume one of the assistants) and then shampooed by yet another person (I will say the shampoo was relaxing and nice though the person was not particularly friendly). While I get that typically in these types of salons, your head will be handled by multiple people, it was reminiscent of an assembly line. Now finally after I was shampooed and ready to go, I was escorted to the main "cutting" chair ready for my hair cut and transformation. However, I had to wait about 45 minutes before anyone even looked at me including David. I could see that he was jumping from one person to the next doing consultations or cuts.At this point, My back was completely soaked from my wait hair (which is still long at this point) and I was getting very frustrated not to mention bored and restless. When David finally come over, he cut my hair which took maybe 8-10 minutes in total... Now here is the real disappointment. It's a couple of days later now and there is nothing special about the cut.It's just shorter with a few subtle layers at the front. However, the back of my head has no noticeable layering and I just look like I have a helmet on. barely anyone even noticed that I cut my hair at all. It's not fun, it's not dramatic, the layering is lacking, it's not sassy and it's not much different than it was before (just about 6 inches shorter in length) I probably could of got this same kind of cut at any semi decent local hair salon in the area and paid half the price. The conclusion: this place does not respect client's time nor offers them an experience that is on par with the prices. It is cold and factory like and you just feel like you are an irrelevant number to them, just another "head" they have to get through quickly and efficiently. While David seems like a very nice person, I did not find my hair cut to be anything special and definitely did not appreciate being one of what seemed like at least 5 others that were booked at the same time I was. I was looking for that wow factor and to feel refreshed and sassy and that was NOT achieved. I just feel like I spent a lot of money, wasted 3 hours and missed my wow moment to go from very long to very short hair which is disappointing. I will now wait for a couple of weeks and find another salon for a little less money to redo the cut, go a bit shorter with some dramatic layering and give me something to be proud and happy about and excited to show off. read more

Did a great job with my hair. I asked for layers and he cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. He even gave some recommendations about the length that would look good for my hair. Ok, I have no problem yelping "boo" when something is bad, but I also believe in a yelp-yelp "yeah" when something is good. I originally rated this salon a one star for resons on a previous post. This salon actually reads their reviews and within a couple of days of my "boo" yelp, I got a call from the salon manager. Apparently they take their reputation seriously and were concerned that I had a bad experience. I was credited back for the unsuccessfulymani and waxing and sent a gift certificate for a cut and color with David, the salon owner. I was impressed with their outreach. Just saw David and he was very professional, friendly and actually listened to what I wanted. He ended up not cutting my hair and decided to let it grow another two months (grow out process is yuch - girl thing I think!). He did an awesome job coloring my hair and I plan on returning as a customer of David and his salon (sorry, still can't recommend Sara). David actually cares about the experience his customers receive and if they aren't happy, then he does his best to make it right. First and foremost, I DO NOT like getting my haircut because no one has ever done it the way I liked. I have always been reluctant to try any places, so much I only cut my hair about twice a year. until my husband did his research! He gave me a gift card to Jon David Salon and chose Irina as my stylist. Got my haircut with her once, she was AMAZING! So I went back (6 months later) and Irina amazed again! She is so nice and is so helpful, she is so detailed in explaining the cut before she does it to make sure it's what I want. I'm so happy to say I found the right stylist for me! read more

Two positives and a big fat negative. First, my stylist was very generous with my partial foil and I was happy with the color. Second, the cut was nice. Apart from that the experience was not good. My stylist was 20 minutes late for my first appointment and then called me by the wrong name. No one smiled and everyone seemed to be going through the motions (were they all having a bad day on the same day?). They were definitely not trying to retain me as a customer, I felt like I was at the DMV not a hair salon. There was a water cooler in the waiting area and an ATM in the lobby area. It was $149 for a cut and a partial highlight. I have paid less for better services and better customer relations. For that amount of money you would think they could offer me more than a water cooler, maybe a Diet Coke? read more

I found Jon David by chance about 2 years ago. I moved here from Florida and had been going to the same fabulous guy for 13 years, so, to say the least, I was scared! I looked online and read about a few places close to my house and decided to give Jon David a try. I called and explained I needed someone who could work with crazy, curly hair. My appointment was set with Qadria. She was fabulous! I continued with her until she moved out of the country and now I have David. The first time he cut my hair, it was so fast and crazy, I thought, this could be bad. Au contraire! It was amazing! He understood the elusive word 'trim', and the color was perfection. Can't wait for my next appointment for highlights, and possibly a keratin type treatment. Oh, and this is definitely THE BEST blowout you will find anywhere around. No, they don't burn you, and yes my hair is super curly, so don't worry. It is great. Period. My hair was silky, straight, all without flat ironing, and that's amazing. I am a new fan of this salon. With an impromptu appointment made the day before-I showed up 30 minutes late (due to an accident on 95-South). I waited a few minutes (the stylist had to finish with another client which I totally understood-being that I was late as well). Anyway, my stylist Qadria came over and started investigating the mess H.C. had created (from a botched "glossing" treatment that was really a color stripping treatment that turned my hair orange among other colors). She told me what the plan was to get me back to my natural blonde shades. I was doubtful and figured it would take another session to really get my hair back to what it used to be. Qadria was really nice and assured me it would happen. Color and foils went on and eventually I was ready for a wash and a conditioning treatment (because my hair was so damaged from all the coloring/processing). The shampoo lady was very sweet and attentive as well. Back in Qadria's chair-I looked into the mirror and surprise- it was like my hair before - but even BETTER! She did very thin highlights and the coloring in between was impeccable. I couldn't believe it. No ugly shades of dull grey-green or orange to be found anywhere. She fixed the first grader haircut given to me at H.C., and blowdried just the top portion so we could see the coloring. I kept calling her a miracle worker-because she seriously saved my life. At this point I didn't care how much my bill was. She was extremely fair in the charging and I gave her more than 20% tip just because i was so grateful. Also tipped the shampoo lady! It's rare to find a stylist who can handle a mess and make you feel better about yourself. Hair is a woman's best accessory-and Jon David Salon has the best stylists to handle those needs. I came to this salon after another salon just wasn't able to get it right. Sara listened to what I wanted as well as to all my concerns, and didn't miss a beat! My color is perfect and the cut feels and looks good, something I haven't had since moving here. Karla washed my hair (I wish I could win the lottery so I could have it done daily), and styled it. Went to get a perm yesterday expecting to pay around 70-80, surprised me by cutting my hair without asking me and charged me for it. Come to see my perm after and I absolutely hated it. I've had a perm before and loved it, from a different salon. I though I'd try Jon David because I heard amazing reviews but I was completely disappointed. Half of my hair wasn't even curled. I demanded a refund and he tried to only refund me for the perm, but I wouldn't have gotten a haircut if I didn't get the perm. Overall, The haircuts may be nice, but NEVER get a perm there. I visit Omida every two months at Jon David salon and she is the absolute best. I'm very picky about my haircut - I like it short and very shaped - and I have very thick fast growing hair. After 15 years of trying to find just the right hair cut, Omida has given me the perfect haircut. She won't try to impose her views on you but will use her experience to help you find the cut you like best. I get mine very layered, long in front and buzzed in back. I get compliments from strangers all the time on my hair cut. I can normally schedule my appointments easily and find Omida very pleasant and professional. Definitely worth going to see. read more

I was able to get a same-day appointment for a Sunday afternoon, which in itself made me very happy. The salon was very clean and nicely decorated, and all of the ladies working there were very friendly. Tina was my stylist this afternoon, and she did a phenomenal job with my hair after going 8 months without a hair cut. Additionally, the scalp massage during the wash was beyond amazing! The cut cost $41, which is about even to slightly less than what I've paid at other salons in the area. In the future this will definitely be my salon of choice! read more

The cut made me look like a cartoon character. I have had bad haircuts before but within 2 wks I could at least style it. I still hate my hair! I had requested a master stylist but did not get that. I've needed to find a new hair place for over 6 months. My hair stylist left the area and I've tried a new place every 3-4 months with mixed results. I think I have found my new salon! I LOVE my hair. I spoke and my stylist listened. He actually channeled my inner desires without my articulating them. I admit to wanting someone who KNOWS what to do. If I have to tell you how to cut my hair, I might as well open my own place! Zed KNOWS what to do. The color is perfect. The cut is carefree...meaning I don't have to do anything but roll out of bed and into the shower. The true test is to come home from the salon and take a shower.
