Whether you are interested in a new cut, color, or salon service this is the place to go. I have been going to Sara for years and she always does an impeccable job. I have fine hair which I highlight blonde. Sara knows just the right shade to apply to match my skin tone. I always receive complements on my color when I go to her! Also, the way she highlights lets my hair go a couple months (2-3) before I need to come back which is great! During a time I wanted to change my look, Sara dyed my hair dark brown. I decided to transition back to blonde and Sara made sure the process did as little damage to my hair and I was pleased throughout the whole thing. It could have been a disaster but thanks to her skill it was no problem and I have no regrets! I have referred many friends who are new to the area to Jon David and they always do a great job with helping them find a stylist who best fits their needs and hair type. I moved out of the area and when I moved back, my old salon was no longer there. I researched local salons and decided to give this one a shot. I am SO happy I did. I have honestly never been so happy with a salon. Between my personable stylist, the wonderful cuts she gives me, the great scalp massage, the price, and the ease of scheduling... I couldn't be happier! Neetu has cut my hair 4 oor 5 times now. I am not very skilled at styling my hair, but she has always explained to me what products she uses (not too much, since she knows I won't use much) and how to use different styling tools (correct brush to use for my hair, correct way to blow it dry, etc). So my hair looks great when I put effort in, but it also looks great when I just let it drip-dry! I love it and I've definitely gotten complements on it. When it's long enough, I plan to cut it short and donate it. I look forward to seeing what Neetu comes up with for a good short cut for me! read more

After waiting too late to get an appointment with my regular hairdresser I hastily make an appt at Jon David Salon because of the reviews here on Yelp. Unfortunately I did not have a similar experience to the others here on the site. I made an appt for cut and highlight. When I arrived I told the stylist that I wanted "natural" highlights. She didn't ask any questions, just got straight to work. When she finished, it was BLOND! Like, middle of summer, spending every day at the beach blond. It looked quite awkward seeing it was the middle of February, and in DC. I told her that it was a little blond for me and she said no problem - come back and she'll put some low lights in. Not wanting that particular stylist to touch my hair again I called the salon a few days later, informed them of the situation, and the gentleman kindly booked me an appt with "one of the owners" to help tone down this crazy blond hair. When I arrived I spoke briefly with this "owner", explained the situation and he got started putting something in my hair to tone it down. This is when it got uncomfortable: groups of stylists whispering, staring, etc. Then this "owner" proceeded to ask me if I'd ever gotten highlights before. Seriously? The stylist who originally did my hair was there as well. She didn't acknowledge me - just continued to walk around the salon and whisper to her colleagues presumably about the situation, as the stylists would then look my way. After an excruciatingly uncomfortable 30 minutes I left the salon quite pleased with the color of my hair. As a professional salon, I would assume they would have at least waited until I left before talking about me! I hate that my experience was so bad. I really wanted to like this place. read more

I love this place! I see Loany as a regular client but have seen David and several others in the past who are also great! The place is bustling and clean. The staff really works well as a team to make every guest feel welcome. Someone always takes my coat, offers me a beverage, and escorts me to the appropriate areas for services. The scalp massage during the shampoo is heavenly and my hair looks great every time I leave. I love that they will do free bang trims between cuts if needed. read more

Amazing. David has cut my hair since I was 14 years old... going on 10 years now! I don't agree with the price ranges I've seen listed. It's hard to find a quality haircut under 85$ in the DMV. At around 50$ it's a steal and you'll leave loving your hair. My suggestion.. let David do what he thinks will look best on you. He's awesome! read more

I followed my favorite hair colorist to the Jon David Salon in Springfield many years ago and have always really liked this salon. Ask for Laurie especially if you want a good highlight or lowlight. She has been doing my hair for over 15 years, she is an excellent stylist and is amazing at color and highlights. Re the one negative comment below, I have never seen the salon looking dirty. I am in Stafford and spent a year researching salons - because like most people, I am picky when it comes to my hair. My hair isn't anything special (long with layers) but a bad cut can seriously ruin your month. So, I avoid the little mom-and-pop type places and look for the big high-end spa-type ones. This place is by far the best salon I have ever been to. I was irritated at first because my stylist was running late, but she made up for that by giving me the best cut and color ever. And the massage during the shampoo...amazing. Cost was up there...paid $176 for a cut and color plus tip...so be prepared for that. lol read more

I was very nervous about conflicting advice I'd received on how to deal with all the grey in my hair from other salons; go grey, do lowlights, streaks of darker color, etc. etc. I easily made an appointment with David yesterday and came loaded with pictures and questions. He came over and immediately dismissed what I thought were some good choices and then said to wait a few minutes while he thought it over based on what I said I was trying to achieve; he went to another customer's chair and finish working on her hair. Then suddenly came back to me and informed me of his recommendation and patiently explained why. I said okay - let's do it. He then left to finish the other customer (whose hair was beautiful!). I must have looked nervous, as he stopped by my chair again and patted me on the back and said confidently not to worry, I was going to love it and why. I was still doubtful and his assistants following his instructions each were so kind and encouraging. Long story short - it turned out fantastic. David is an experienced professional and knows what works and I'm so glad I put my trust in him. I decided to do a crazy color change and go white/silver blonde. George was amazing! He did a great job in both my color and my cut. I appreciated that he was concerned with the health of my hair and talked me through what bleaching can do to hair and ways we could achieve the color I wanted while protecting my hair. I can't say enough about this salon and my stylist Zaid. Before moving to Falls Church I would drive in from Bristow, VA. It was so worth it. The staff are polite, professional and helpful. Zaid, my stylist, is the best I've ever had. I wear my hair short, have it highlighted and he does a great job. He asked at my first appointment if he could use a razor to do the cut on my particular hair. I was nervous but it was the best decision I've ever made for my hair texture. He really does personalize his cuts. Now they have opened a fabulous second shop in Arlington. Zaid spends time at both so I go where he is on the day I want my cut! I went to Jon David Salon for the first time today. I moved here recently and was apprehensive about finding a new stylist. I made an appointment with Sara for a partial foil and cut. I was impressed with what a great job she did of matching the color from my previous foil. She understood from our initial conversation what I was looking for in a cut and color. I wasn't impressed with the atmosphere of the salon. It felt like they were set up to move as many people through as efficiently as possible. In the process I think the personal touch is lost. I have been going to Georgetown for the past 10 years for cut and color. I have very fine hair (Chestnut Brown). Although I loved Georgetown, the distance and time became too much for me. About two years ago, I started looking for a hair stylist in Northern Virginia. I went to highly recommended hairstylists. The guy in McLean put blonde highlights on my hair for an hour, the guy in Fairfax stripped and bleached my hair, and then there was one who put orange in my hair! I found David (by a miracle, I believe) and he worked with my hair for three hours! He is awesome. My hair is beautiful and shining. He is a gifted colorist and superb, and detailed with his cuts. David is kind hearted and cares about what his customers have to say. I already started recommending David to my friends. I will always go to David. He is the best! read more

After telling Laurie that I was pampering myself for my birthday she kept me waiting for an hour and 15 minutes before she spent a rushed 10 mins cutting my hair. I watched her go thru 4 other people while I was waiting. When she passed me off to her assistant for drying I waited another 15 mins and couldn't take it anymore. I just paid and left with my hair wet which is a permanent deal breaker. Got home and found the cut to be of Supercuts quality. These guys are trying to get rich by overbooking and hoping their assistants will help pick up the slack. This is not a real salon. It's a factory. Don't go there. read more

I have needed to find a salon in the DC area since my family moved down here last year from PA. I saw a voucher on Northern VA Magazine's Specialicious for JD Salon. I decided to give it a try and made an appointment with David after reading all the reviews on here. Amazing. Not only did he listen to what I wanted, he made it better than I imagined! I am so in love with my new haircut. The staff was incredibly nice and very efficient. I had several people ask me if I wanted something to drink while I waited. Katy is awesome! Due to a cancellation, I got matched up with Katy for my cut and highlights. She gave me great suggestions about getting to the very blonde color in the picture I showed her. During the highlights process, she made me feel very comfortable and we had a great conversation. When we got to the cut, I thought I just wanted a trim because I am growing out my hair. She suggested layers and I went with it, because I trusted her by that point and was so happy with how the color looked. The layers are amazing. My hair looks and feels so much better and even two weeks later, I still feel great about the cut. Shockingly, it is easier to style now than it was before! It is the perfect cut! An acquaintance from church with a great cut recommended this salon to me a while back - and I'm so glad she did! After having very long hair for years, I was ready for a change. I wanted to be sure that I was in good hands for such a dramatic change in style, and Jon David Salon did not disappoint! I was early for my appointment, but they got started almost right away. The shampooer gave me a great scalp massage. The true star of the day was my stylist Mariela, who listened closely to what I wanted and looked at some pictures I had printed out. We discussed how many layers I wanted, and what my day-to-day routine was, and she went to work. It turned out amazing! I received many compliments in the salon, and my friends were surprised and impressed with my new hairstyle. I will gladly book my next appointment with Mariela. I've been here twice, and I was not at all impressed. First of all, the wait time is RIDICULOUS.. Why the heck should I even make an appointment, when it takes them 20 minutes to even get me in the chair? I even went on their self-admitted slow days! Frankly I find it rude that they can't budget their time or figure out how to properly schedule people. I saw the same stylist both times, and she was rude and snippy with me. The first time I thought she might have been having an off day, but the second time? See ya! I brought in photos of how I wanted my hair to look and while I was pretty satisfied with the cut, I was not satisfied with the aftercare. I asked how to style my hair specifically like one of the photos, and the stylist shrugged and didn't really explain at all. Final verdict? I will not be returning to this salon. read more

I am left speechless by the incredible magic that Neetu did on my hair. Let me start off by saying that I haven't cut or dyed my hair for over a year and half. This is because I recently moved, and I am VERY picky about who touches my hair. I had been following Jon David Salon on Instagram for about 3 months and kept seeing Neetu's beautiful work pop up! I knew that she was talented and so I decided it was time to make an appointment. Whoever runs their emails did an incredible job of finding a time that would work for my schedule and kept replying immediately with a variety of options for me! They also texted me to confirm my appointment. (As someone who is always on the run I truly appreciated this convenience!!) when I got to the salon everyone was SO nice and welcoming, offered me a beverage, and to hang up my sweatshirt! Neetu saw me right away and asked me what I was looking for and talked to me about what she was going to do! The girl that washed my hair also did a wonderful job and massaged my head :) when Neetu was finished, it had come out even more beautiful than I imagined. She is truly talented and has a heart of pure gold!!! I am getting married in 3 months and I will be going back before the wedding for Neetu to cut and style my hair again!!!! I have been seeing David there for 15 years. He is truly a wizard with hair and listens to what you want and delivers every time. He also gives recommendations and has a vision for what he thinks looks best and I used to resist his recommendations but he really is always right! I moved to another state but I am probably just going to wait to get my hair done again until I am back in VA. Everyone in that salon is truly talented so you can't go wrong! I have been going to this place for years. I used to jump from one salon to another, never repeating the same one because they could never cut/style/color the way I wanted. Even after moving an hour away I still managed to find time to spend a day out of a weekend commuting there and waiting for the color/cut/style because I still can't find a salon to replace it. The last time however, was sadly my last. I only had time for color, which I desperately needed. After the coloring and shampooing was done, I sat there and waited for about 45 minutes for David to come by to see my hair. When he did come by he assumed I wanted a cut, so I said "no, I told your receptionist, the colorist, and the shampoo person that I am in a hurry and have to leave right after my hair is colored. I've been sitting here all this time waiting for you so you can cut my hair?" So after 3-5 hours, I can't remember correctly, $120 + $40 tips and $25 in gas for the round trip , I got home and ended up with patchy hair because David who is the only person who has ever colored my hair there gave the job to someone else, a new face, my $30 t-shirt was also colored along with my brand new $40 white bra. They were both gray on the back and NO ONE SAID ONE THING TO ME AT THE SALON! That didn't include the additional money I spent to fix the patches...... read more

This review is for the overall experience at the salon. The hair cut was wonderful (4.5 STAR) but not so amazing that I felt good about the experience. I had made a first time appointment for 11:00am, I got to the salon 10 minutes early. At 11:32 (I looked at my watch when they finally came) I was taken to get my hair washed. I then waited for my stylist to finish up with the previous client for about 5 more minutes. She did do a wonderful job on my hair, and was apologetic, sweet and efficient - I was out the door and in the car by 11:58! I just feel the situation could have been handled differently. There were a few stylists who had no clients during the duration of my stay. Maybe someone could have said, my stylist is running behind, would it be ok for me to see someone else or offer a discount for service. I maybe being petty, but while the hair cut was good, I was less than pleased by the service. I would still suggest going, just maybe be sure to download a new book first. read more
